Johnny Ginger is lovely drink to have. I do like the club world seats where you are travelling as a couple but do prefer the privacy of the club suite. Great video..
hi there! loved this video. would you mind commenting if someone has to climb over your legs when you're reclined, in order to access the aisle? i keep hearing this is a significant problem, but I guess it depends on how often someone has to get up. I think that's my only concern.
Thanks very much. It can be an issue, but it actually never happened to me on this flight. The person who would have had to climb over me stayed in their seat all night. It just depends who is there, and you can improve things depending on seat selection.
Interested in your choice of seats. I have read other reports that these sometimes suffer from noise of meals being prepared in the galley and noise of FA's chattering while passengers are sleeping - did you have any such issues? Peter
Didn’t have any issues at all. I was one of very few that actually chose to eat so the meal service was very quick, and no noticeable noise from the FAs
Looked a pretty good flight although the food presentation could be better believe BA have anounced this week a major interior upgrade which is to include the 380, which are definitely showing their age. Do you know if you still get tier points if you are using part cash part avios?
Not 100% sure as I’ve never actually booked part cash and avios as tends to not be the best value for avios compared with a standard redemption fare, but I believe it does still earn tier points
@vahinewahine916 I believe it's going to take a couple of years to refit the entire 380 fleet, they are showing their age, surprising really as they are all relatively new and were laid up for Covid, BA do work their aircraft hard I once flew on a 24 year old BA 747, it was grim as hadn't had the latest refurbishment.
I flew Qsuite last month, but next month I will be in old club world from LHR-HND. My good lord, I have been spoiled with Qatar, how could I put up with BA hospitality for over 14 hrs flight.
i just did qsuite london to phuket, flew back 14hrs from HK on rtn in old club world, had 2 middle seats with my wife each way, food on qater was much better, but apart from that the ba seats were comfy, plenty of room if u share the two middle seats and slept really well! I think there is just so much stigma attached to the old seats, at the end of the day it's a comfy seat on a plane!
Great video, Thanks for sharing. Hard to believe how difficult it looks to get out of a window seat when aisle passenger has their footrest down. How does that work in the middle of the night?
Thanks very much! You basically have to step very carefully over the aisle passengers legs and hope you don’t kick them or trip on them and wake them up! And if you are the aisle passenger you just pray that the person at the window doesn’t need to get up at all
I agree that the old business class club world is actually very good if you can secure a window seat and if travelling with a partner then it’s very sociable to be facing each other albeit at an angle. And if you’re not, then there is always the privacy divide anyway. Also like the fact that your legs are completely unrestricted when turning the seat into a flat bed unlike with the new club suite. Everything else remains identical anyway, same meal service and all the rest of it so not sure why so many people need to make such a song and dance about it. I travel long haul often and if im booked on a flight with the old style it makes no difference to me personally. I suppose the only thing is the cabin has started to look a little tired and dated, but I can live with that.
I was once booking a flight in Club from MIA-LHR-DXB and decided to call up for some reason. The guy on the phone quoted me the economy fare (Using Avios). What a steal!
I did notice that the overhead bin above our specific seats was relatively small. My backpack, jacket and bedding filled up the whole storage, but the storage bins next to the window made up for this. The storage bins in the middle of the cabin seemed a lot bigger
We've flown the BA A380 in Business Class and at the time we wondered how they could possibly make the layout worse - especially the aisle seat. We've still not come up with an answer. The catering is a joke compared to the ME3.
Just as well that the technical equipment on the flight deck on B.A works alot better, than the IFE equipment in the passenger cabin, great flight review there Charles as always., i like your background music too!✈👍
Yes, I got some good reviews of the old BA Club World Seating a few years ago. Like you here, my friends like the old cabin seating as well particular the window sesting. It was great to be able to get upvand walk away from the seat next to you. The food looked really nice!😊 😂 Hahaha, yes, I know about trying to eat while turbulence is going on! I know but glad you and your wife survived.😊 Yes, on the larger aircraft, I have always liked going upstairs to fly Business Class. And yes, I also miss the recently retired 747-400s from the USA airlines flying over to London and Paris. Finally, with me bring a former Purser Flight Attendant, I do miss flying sometimes from my former career in general.😊 Good memories for me!!😊
Really good video! And I absolutely agree with the title. Last year I tried both the new and the old cabin on different legs of the same trip. The latter was also a window seat on the A380 and I loved it even as a solo traveller: much more comfortable for sleeping than the club suites and also once the divider is raised, it feels super private. So yeah, the old club world may not be perfect but it definitely has its pros.
Nice report Charles. Good call on that bulkhead window seat for aisle access and the extra storage on the A380. Storage in that one drawer provided is abysmal as you say. Do you know I must have flown that seat 25 times and I never knew that the footrest had two heights! Travelling as a couple the old seats have a lot of plusses, we have flown middle two Club Suites and you are just too far apart to talk easily. The extra space and storage however I think edge it for the Club Suite but not by much. David.
yeah some aerosols do set off the smoke detectors in airplane toilets. hope you didn't get questioned when you landed. some airlines/places make a big fuss of it.
Great review! Thanks so much! You: Spraying deodorant in the toilet and causing the fire alarm to buzz World: 😮 Wait, there are people that still use aerosol deodorant?!! 😳 😂😂🤣🤣
This is probably the worst or second to worst business class product on the market for a major airline (BA, Lufthansa, Swiss) the final slap in the face is they make you pay to pick your seat
That’s becoming increasingly rare to be fair. Most airlines these days follow the BA model of free seat selection for status holders and fees for everyone else. BA’s fees must be amongst the most expensive though. I payed £25 for business class seat selection on KLM recently, that’d probably be closer to £100 with BA if I didn’t have status
If you a tall this seat is better than the new one if you are on an overnight flight. Free and early seat selection is a benefit for my status so they are rewarding loyalty.
So, it's just the absence of working, reliable IT systems, customer service, adequate catering load, effective cabin maintenance and cleaning? Oh and the worst delay and cancellation record of any carrier flying to/from UK.. #BESTAVOIDED
Totally cringe when travelling alone having dinner with a stranger so close up. Fine if you are a couple. Can't believe we still have to climb over a stranger to get out. Ridiculous.
Yeah I can definitely see it being a bit awkward if next to a stranger. Brilliant as a couple though! I’ve only flown it solo once and that was my first ever business class about 6 years ago and I was too excited to care about the limitations. Helped that I was at the bulkhead and put the privacy screen up immediately!
The old club world business class is absolutely horrible! I just flew it in July from Baltimore to London Heathrow, and it was extremely uncomfortable. Specifically it has no room to maneuver, it's narrow, there's no storage, and I have to step over the guys legs to step out of the aisle, horrible horrible layout. On the way back from London to Baltimore I had their new layout and it was 10 times better wider seat, direct isle access, more storage, more comfortable seat, I would never ever fly the old club world.
Skytrax are considering downgrading BA to a 3 star airline, and you can see why. Skytrax said: "British Airways is Certified as a 4-Star Airline for its airport and onboard product and staff service. With some product and service now at 3-Star Rating levels, the BA rating for 2024 is under review." “British Airways is still installing new Club World seats but many aircraft still have the older, poorer seat. First class service and product fails to match most airlines in this category. For short-haul, British Airways is at a low-cost standard in Economy, and Club Europe standards are very haphazard. Despite claims about trying to return to it’s former premium days, service standards are poor and the product is quite cheap.”
Best business club on the market always fly BA . Emirates and def Qatar are poor and staff terrible . Plus the way the Middle East airlines treat their staff is shocking hence never never fly with them .

Who did you call to do the upgrade? Was it the BAEC line or the dedicated BA Holidays number?
It was the BA Hols number

Agreed it is great for couples and families. Still a bit worn and not enough storage, but not huge deal breakers for me.

I did notice that the overhead bin above our specific seats was relatively small. My backpack, jacket and bedding filled up the whole storage, but the storage bins next to the window made up for this. The storage bins in the middle of the cabin seemed a lot bigger
