Absolutely. The toss and the bowling changes are much talked about and rightly so. But for me, Cummin's most extraordinary tactic in the finals were the field placings. So many boundary shots went straight to the fielder for a single or nothing...it was almost as if Australia were fielding 15 men. I don't think anybody ever got field placings and their angles so right over a single game as Cummins did that day.

It wasn't the first time. It was the same in 1999. And to be fair to the other players, it wasn't all down to Cummins. But he is a very good captain, a lot better than the Australian sporting media have portrayed him as. When it comes to sport, we have one of the highest level of amateurish, self promoting - trying to make a name for themselves, unknowledgeable journalists known to mankind.

To be honest Heads score and Labuschange's partnership was knockout blow. Where India was hardly hitting boundaries, Head was hitting them at will within the same time of the innings. Marnus just kept rotating and ticking over the strike, on a finer point, left right combination is hard to bowl to.
Like in @officialsportica mention, the whole tournament India did not get pushed or tested. No galvanizing to combat potential pressure. Australia has a couple of bad losses and some hard fought wins between England and Afghanistan. (Which for Afghanistan you wouldn't say too much but they are coming along). @woopimagpie Рік тому +5

I'm not taking anything away from Travis Head, he's probably my fave player in the Aus team, but you're kind of forgetting about Glenn Maxwell. Don't forget against Afghanistan the Aussies were gone for all money at 7/91 chasing 293, Maxwell essentially won them that game all on his own by making a double century, which is virtually unheard of in ODI cricket. He's arguably the most dangerous batter in world cricket today and he barely got to bat in that final against India, only being required to hit the winning 2 runs.
If we ever got to see Head and Maxwell batting together and they're both switched on they would probably set a highest total record that would never be broken.
Testament to Travis Head though, that catch he took to dismiss Rohit Sharma was where the game turned against India, they had no chance after that brilliant effort.

another one of his masterstrokes in the middle of the innings was his "wheel of fortune" bowling superspell. Instead of the usual system of two bowlers swapping overs back and forth, Pat Cummins rotated through all of his main bowlers and all rounders one over at a time. This meant that the batsmen never had time to adapt one bowler, and had to take a chance against a fresh face if they wanted to increase the runrate.

Most people thought he was joking and that he was trying to lower the morale of the Indian team.
Never in my wildest dreams or in the wildest dreams of a billion people did we think he was serious and that he would steal a cup from under Indias noses in India. Truly one of the greatest leaders in recent cricket history

But why is it so hard to believe that they could win it ? They are Aussies man, they have a rich general sporting heritage and an exemplary cricketing heritage. The other nations aren't even close in terms of raw physical ability(build and ability to execute skills, not just talent) and also the fact that History has taught over and over again that they are winners. The other nations, well quite no much in all honesty.

Why wouldn't you think so? They are the most successful team in cricket with a winning head to head record against everyone so they are literally always doing well, not just turning it on at the world cup. Many India fans seem to think the sport is played on Excel spreadsheets.
P.S it is 1.4 billion Indians, not 1 billion.

Imagine if India won the World Cup; Rohit Sharma would be the internet's favorite superstar, with videos pouring in faster than a Virat Kohli cover drive. But alas, in the world of cricket, we often find ourselves in the echo chamber of Dhoni's past glories. Australians remain champions not just on the field but in the art of staying humble - because let's face it, they've mastered the art of keeping their heads cooler than a Steve Smith leave outside the off-stump.

No one will point it out, but I noticed it during this game and even watching its highlights, Pat Cummins and Australia actually allowed Rohit and Kohli to score at a rate they are used to. They didn't actually pressurize Kohli or Rohit in this match, they actually pressurize the others which then put pressure on especially Kohli. He knew how and when to get Rohit out and Kohli out. Rest was walkthrough for them. He knew Rohit would just go bang after the powerplay that's why he introduced Maxwell in the powerplay. And if you watch the 2 sixes Rohit had hit, the wicket ball was just a little bit out of the line which made the opportunity to bring the outside half in play. And no one will realize how efficiently he bowled the 10 overs from part timers which brought Rohit's wicket and without any damage quota was completed. And then final blow, Kohli's wicket where he set the trap and Kohli fell into it due to pressure. You can even watch the highlights where Pat was consistently bowling short balls at pace, and when the time came, he bowled it much fuller and slowed it up and you can see from Kohli's reaction, he was never ever prepared for that ball! And his homework was presented in beautiful field placements and commitment. If we talk about captaincy, Cummins was way more ahead in that match. He knew what he was saying in the press conference and man he showed what he meant by. This defeat will haunt Indians for many upcoming years just by the way they were outplayed in this match! And mainly because of the way game progressed. It actually in my words called slow poisoning, where they had the narrowest of hopes alive for life until death showed it real face!

India's batting was already exposed against England in the group stage
Against England, SKY's performance was the warning that he is not a good finisher
Selectors trusted more on SKY than Ishan Kishan
