My 4 year old says she cant breath with a mask on. Better be damn right, I believe her. My Autistic son is 13 and struggles with it and needs his inhaler every time. He has a medical exemption. If we need a mask, we simply dont go at all.

I too have autism and sensory issues (I don’t actually have sensory processing disorder but I do have sensory issues) and I totally understand how hard it is to wear a mask for long periods of time. It literally feels weird like I’m trapped. I’ve had my fair share of breakdowns but I understand that people are dying from this illness all over. I force myself to wear my mask. That can’t be said for a 3 year old though. Southwest as well as other airlines need to train their flight attendants and crew members in aiding those with special needs and mental health disorders. I’m trying to think of inventing a mask that would be comfortable for those (including me) with sensory issues and those under 3 (like a pacifier mask kind of thing) but southwest could have handled this situation differently. Instead of just simply kicking them from the flight, they could have helped them off of the flight; got their luggage for them, gave them a hotel room or a safe space for the toddler to calm down and then booked them on a later flight.

The airlines are allowed to bar anyone from flying if they can’t wear a mask. They risk lawsuits from people who get the virus linked to them and had people (even with disabilities) fly without masks. They are obligated to keep passengers & employees safe. So she has no lawsuit. The alternative to flying is driving. Just like if a store won’t let you in without a mask, just online shop. There are reasonable alternatives.

Ryan Belfiore--They can't. Because I know that many parents of kids with Autism, absolutely believe that everyone they ever encounter, needs to make any, & all exceptions for those kids. But, sedating them for a long flight is completely out of the question. I worked with young children with Autism for many years, & these parents have very difficult lives. Guess what? I can't work anymore because I am NOW disabled by a drunk driver in the middle of the day. He died instantly. I can't do many things well anymore. I get very little S.S. & some people do offer help when I can't pick up something, & many don't. I know that these children can be asleep for a flight. IF not then rent a car. I am able to see it like very few can.
In this case the airliner is right. An airplane's air conditioning is just recycling the same air over and over again. For all people on board it's the best for the child to wear a mask no matter he likes it or not.

First off, a 3 year old isn't a baby. Second, if she knew the kid wouldn't wear a mask, she should have called the airline to ask if a Doctors note would allow him to fly. Third, choosing to take an elective trip during a pandemic shows poor judgement as a Mother.

I too have autism and sensory issues (I don’t actually have sensory processing disorder but I do have sensory issues) and I totally understand how hard it is to wear a mask for long periods of time. It literally feels weird like I’m trapped. I’ve had my fair share of breakdowns but I understand that people are dying from this illness all over. I force myself to wear my mask. That can’t be said for a 3 year old though. Southwest as well as other airlines need to train their flight attendants and crew members in aiding those with special needs and mental health disorders. I’m trying to think of inventing a mask that would be comfortable for those (including me) with sensory issues and those under 3 (like a pacifier mask kind of thing) but southwest could have handled this situation differently. Instead of just simply kicking them from the flight, they could have helped them off of the flight; got their luggage for them, gave them a hotel room or a safe space for the toddler to calm down and then booked them on a later flight.
I have a doctors exempt form for my asthma so I don't have to wear a mask. But Costco is the only place that has a problem with me going in with no mask. The first time I went in they called the cops on me and we were standing outside for 2 hours explaining why I am not allowed to wear a mask, then the cops said that they have to let me in. And if they didn't, that would be discrimination. After that staff heard that, they let me in. I haven't had a problem since luckily.

The airlines are allowed to bar anyone from flying if they can’t wear a mask. They risk lawsuits from people who get the virus linked to them and had people (even with disabilities) fly without masks. They are obligated to keep passengers & employees safe. So she has no lawsuit. The alternative to flying is driving. Just like if a store won’t let you in without a mask, just online shop. There are reasonable alternatives.

I'm stuck in Asia rn because of this pandemic and keep getting flights cancelled on me so I've had to book multiple flights. So maybe you won't see it if you don't read and don't want too.

My son has SPD and ASD, too. He's three and there's no way in hell that he would wear a mask, under any circumstances, ever. He can't tolerate it. That's why I don't bring him anywhere where he HAS to wear one. This is an airplane... Of course they're going to be assholes about it and insist he wears one. What did she expect? What the hell was she thinking trying to take him on a flight? Stupid. This is the mother's fault.

Reasonable if you’re autistic, child couldn’t wear a mask during that time they shouldn’t go out at all so that they don’t endanger people like me. I am not immunocompromise, but I am cautious and I wish people would understand cautious people a little bit more.

Ryan Belfiore--They can't. Because I know that many parents of kids with Autism, absolutely believe that everyone they ever encounter, needs to make any, & all exceptions for those kids. But, sedating them for a long flight is completely out of the question. I worked with young children with Autism for many years, & these parents have very difficult lives. Guess what? I can't work anymore because I am NOW disabled by a drunk driver in the middle of the day. He died instantly. I can't do many things well anymore. I get very little S.S. & some people do offer help when I can't pick up something, & many don't. I know that these children can be asleep for a flight. IF not then rent a car. I am able to see it like very few can.
Buy your own airplane. Problem solved. If you can’t afford, then make more money. Life is only hard if you’re stupid.

In this case the airliner is right. An airplane's air conditioning is just recycling the same air over and over again. For all people on board it's the best for the child to wear a mask no matter he likes it or not.
