    Have you ever had a bad time on a motorcycle?

    • @chuckthesham5195

      Yes, on the sports-bike ride. Standing on my arms. I felt like I would have to be Charles Atlas with biceps like Paul Bunyan to be comfortable. Maybe I wasn't riding it right?

    • @alanharris2799
      @alanharris2799 2 роки тому

      Yes, I had a loan Suzuki Bandit 1200 while my Suzuki Hayabusa was in for service and it scared the hell out of me. Felt like the front end was disconnected from the rest of the bike, steering was just all over the place! Definitely something wrong with it. With the heel/toe shifter it could probably be adjusted so you can get your toes under the toe shifter if you had another ride on it, i did that with the heel/toe on my Softail Slim :)

      Lmaoooo! I have two Shihtzus and I only take one riding, the other one has back problems, plus he doesn’t like the ride. My uncle got my something very similar to what that guy had. I prop my pup inside it and he puts his little cute paws on the tank. I have a little helmet for him and also some goggles, though I think he prefers the helmet since the goggles can get a little tight on him. My little shihtzu loves it! I asked my uncle where he got it, and he said he got it on his trip while in the UK. It doesn’t have a brand name or anything. I would suggest googling online and trying to find some. They are great!

    Racing motocross for 25 years leaves me with no use for a heel shifter. Totally un-natural for me and every bike I've owned that came with one had it immediately removed and thrown in the woods.

    Stange, your 2018 RGS should have come with a heel toe shifter. Trust me a HT shifter is one of those things that once you get used to it you won't want to go back. I road for 27 years without one and didn't think I'd like it. But after pushing myself to get used to it...best thing since sliced bread. 😁

    You and my ol lady ride/rode the same bike. She currently rides a dyna superglide too, but wants to upgrade to a road glide for her forever bike. Idk, to each their own. I'll stick with my baby, she's a customized 2005 1600 Vulcan Classic. Her name is Satisfaction, because that's what I have every time I look at her or fire her up!

    I totally agree other bikes use more plastic and fit and finish is not like world class… hence cheap to buy….I checked the Ducati Diavel once( expensive bike it is)… I was saddened by the fact that bike actually has very poor quality built( I mean just looking at the indicators and feeble feeling other parts on the bike)… it might have power and good suspension but it lacks solid parts… Harley-Davidson parts quality and fit and finish is the best in the world that I have seen on a cruiser( it feels like made to last).. good to see BMW in the game … they are good … competition is good and is even better if you have a formidable competition…

    The first start and the jerk sideways is weird. The shifter is small and hard to fit my foot to. It was too far forward for me on the bars and my shoulders hurt after my 45 minute ride. My wife rode on the back and it was spooky without a sissy bar on the back.

    You talk about it's harder to lean. As an experiment when you get home try leaning only on your bike. It wont do much because the wheels are gyroscopes and maintain and up and down position. it is counter steering when turning that gives you the lean. This bike may need more force when counter steering for many different reasons. I would think this is something you would get use to like the different shifter and bike levers. You do a great job with your videos.

If that thing goes down, it could cost you half of your motor. Potentially a very expensive mishap. BMW does excel in quality and attention to detail. It does seem to be priced competitively. 300k miles should be a given with proper recommended maintenance, especially if you like long haul ridding. Nice review...as usual.

    Jess, if you get the chance you need to ride the Bagger, Cant really get the comparison of the cruisers until you do. Still the learning curve of the foot controls, but like you said , you have to give it time. There is still a lot to love about the r18's , the history is there ,but yes they are still new, so the aftermarket parts are coming! Really great video and review ,ride safe.

    Like the old classic look , going retro back to the /2 lines and paint scheme, I have had several boxers with over 300 K miles, my shins are permanently scared.

      How many hours do you have on the bike?
      Harley's are much more expensive, and the BMW bikes are bulletproof compared to HD bikes. It is not only an opinion when you say they are overrated and over priced. And comparing them to another bike, that really is what you say about this bike.

    Good looking bike. The horizontal jugs adds a unique look but being on the shorter side myself I can see where the ergonomics with the foot controls with the jugs overtop and the kickstand in the stowed position might be a concern. However as you said the machine sounds hefty and appears to be of solid sound construction. Good job describing the handling and overall performance of these motorcycles. If the opportunity ever rises I may have to try one out myself.

    You shift up by stepping on the heal shifter and down shift the same way with your toe. You have to use a little effort. (Use the weight of your leg it makes it a lot better) Heal toe shifters are the only true way to ride a cruiser

    That was a cool video. Great job. I'm thinking on putting a reverse gear on my Harley. You know how hard they are to go backwards. I'm not strong enough to do it. I have to drive it in and make sure I can get out. God help me if I drop it.

    I've done test rides, but not with a group like that. Seems stressful being out on a bike for the first time with a big group...at least for the first few miles. I'm glad you got to switch to standard pegs to get a feel for that version. I had a Moto Guzzi that did the sideways shake on start up and rev. I imagine it's pretty intense with a big engine like that.

    The engine setup is fugly, I need to stretch out and I can’t imagine the damage one would do laying it down. I’ll stick to my Harleys.

    • @Gismo3333
      @Gismo3333 2 роки тому

      There will be no damage… First of, you never laying the bike down. That is either crashing or dropping the bike. And of course you get engine-gards or frame sliders on all bike. Especially when you have then tendency to crash and drop the bike all the time. I would recommend you get a smaller bike to learn how to handle one. If you laying your bike down, when something happen. That is you crashing your bike deliberate… is it not? Heard that a lot… Then you need more skills, before you hurt your self bad, or even worse… That is not good.

    I used to ride an Airhead back in the day and loved them. As I got older I've experienced health issues in my legs and found the cruiser riding position to benefit me. I sat on one of these bikes at my dealer but way too cramped for me, no leg room. I'll pass.

    Jess, you must be getting versatile, riding these different brands! Except for an unfortunate sojourn standing on my hands on a forgettable sports-bike ride back and forth from my local H-D dealership, all I have rode for a long time is Harleys. And FWIW, I feel ya about floorboards. My new Harley has them, and the feel is different, not sure really if I like them better or not. It feels almost like sitting on a chair at home. And I detest heel-toe shifters. Keep the hits coming!

    Harley had this niche market covered for a while with the V-rod. My son owned one for 3 years and had none of the issues with controls or weight distribution that you disclosed with the BMW. I'm just a little doubtful of the bike's usefulness other than being a hot rod. It really sounds like a 'stoplight bike'. He went to a Road Glide and has stayed there ever since. Seems similar to your thoughts.

    I've never ridden an R18 but I would love to. This bike sells in the $15 K range which is cheaper than my Harley. I would put engine guards on that bike...if I owned one.
