Inserting SIM, microSD Card in Galaxy S9 / S9+

- Yep, once again the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ both have a dual SIM and microSD card tray. They take nano SIM cards, specifically, and hold up to 400GB of extra storage via SD slot.
This simple video just shows you where that tray is and how you can eject it in order to put in a SIM from your carrier and an SD card.

Basic tip, I know, but it's there because you would be surprised at how many people don't know where the nano SIM and SD card slot is on the Galaxy S9 and S9+, just like they didn't with the S8 and S7.
Droid Life well, I haven't been able to get mine to fit since the s8 I got had a broken SIM tray and the replacement I got from amazon didn't seem to fit well.
Too bad for you
Can you use a SD card and a SIM card at the same time on a S9+ single sim version? Or only 1 of them at a time?
Not as obvious to do as you might imagine! Thanks. Also FYI you can use a paperclip instead of the tool...you have to push hard to open things in any event.
Thanks for the info vid! Had the phone since June 2018 and never realized to even find out where it's stored.
As your video is clear and informative, do u have one on battery removal on gs9?
Thank you from a senior citizen who could not understand how both cards would fit into one space. Your video helped at least one old dude.
Thanks for sharing with all of us non-tech people. Clear and concise.
Very helpful and informative. Some of us are not super-savvy on these things and so it is good to find someone willing to share basic stuff that helps us technically challenged to gain knowledge and further our enjoyment. Thank you.
Life hack: if your like me and accidentally threw out the key thingy you can just use a paper clip. It's what I did and it worked great
paperclip is to big for the hole
@@jeannieafs8071 not the small ones
I just tried a paperclip that fits just fine but the tray doesn't pop out . I would hope I don't have to apply a lot of pressure..
@@spudman1734 I used a tack with my S8+. I have the key with my S9, though.
@@spudman1734 I just did it with a small paper clip (large one was too big) but yes, I had to apply more pressure than I thought it would take.
I like that you guys do videos that have a wide range of appeal from Android enthusiast to beginner. 👍
Thanks for this tutorial! It was hard tontell which way is "face up" as you mentioned in the video. Also, you might suggest to place the tray flat on the table facing in a certain direction - makes it easier to press the cards in. And you might remove your hands after each step so we can see what you have done.
THANK YOU!! I just upgraded from a S3 to an S9 and you saved me from going crazy when it came to finding where everything went. bonus part is your video went straight to the point instead of making me sit through pointless dribble.
How could 28 not like this video? You couldn't have been more straight to the point than what you were. This was an excellent video.👍👍
People being annoyed at a basic tip video I guess
128 don't like this video because it takes 2:30 seconds to get to the point....not straight to the point in the slightest
I needed to know the information contained in this video. For me it was to the point and excellent delivery. Thank you.
Well, the first 46 seconds were for the most part unnecessary.
28 dummies.
This was very helpful. Your video saved me a trip to the Verizon store. Thank you!
Thanks for this video. My husband usually do all this for me. Now he's busy working and I don't want to bother him. I'm glad I found your video
Thank you for showing it.But,also kindly excuse my displeasing comment.I bought S7 primarily for using it’s 1.7 aperture handy camera to shoot spontaneous pictures on my tours.Later, I realized it’s problems of low battery capacity and the flimsy sim tray.It is amazing that Samsung uses this kind of crap in the space age.Let nobody ever waste money on a smart phone with such basic but useless parts. In my S7,the latching mechanism inside the bottom end broke the sim tray when I changed SD card and pushed it in.I pulled everything out carefully making sure that no broken part was left in.Their repair workshop suggestion for repair was to crack it open inside out.I wanted a simpler and direct approach. So,at home, I carefully attempted to widen the locking mechanism deep in the slot with a sturdy no 21 slim surgical blade with a broader tip which does not break.I switched the phone on after pulling the blade out to make sure my attempts caused no electronic malfunction. I loaded a new sim tray with sim and sd card and reinserted it gently. It did not fit in the slot perfectly.I pulled the tray out to examine a bit of damage again on the bottom edge of flimsy tray.Waste of time and money. My happy solution was to give it to the school kids for a mini electronic project with their science teacher to crack it open and explore what they could find inside it.I advised on their class how younger kids could damage their eyes focusing them at short distance watching violent movies or playing games. The Mother Nature did not design this wonderful gift of vision for such foolish addiction. I feel sorry for the children now growing up playing the virtual toys and losing their own creativity and joy in openness, sensitivity, touch and understanding of each other.
"Take the tip, put it in the hole."
This is my kinda porn
dont forget to give it a little rub at the end

Tip of what?
Thank you! Yes, it's a basic tip but I needed it! So I appreciate you helping us that aren't tech gurus!!
2:17 before he finally gets to the point of this video.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks SO much for this video! I changed from an old Samsung 5 where I could take the back off to get to the SD card. Jumped to the S9 and couldn't find where Samsung moved it!! Great video.
I bought a used phone, I didn't get a manual or the little key thing. Therefore this video was helpful, thanks.
Manual available as PDF online.
Great video!... Quick and simple, but just the right amount of needed details. Thanks
This is one of the best "instructional" videos I've ever seen (if for no other reason, it's STRAIGHT TO THE POINT)! (please read to the end though, because I'm not always straight to the point, and there is one issue I have with this video). Anyway, where was I... oh... I can't stand those videos that start out with 10 minutes of... "and if you're like me, you find that you're constantly running out of memory, and I can remember the first time I got that message, boy was I scared......". Get my point? But there is one issue with this video, the creator forgot to mention that if your phone is on, you should first "disconnect" from the SIM (I'M no expert, and I could be wrong and that doesn't apply to this model, but in case it does, I would at least say "check with your provider"? Thanks though for a refreshing "do this, that, and the other and your fdone" video!!!
I'm glad I'm not crazy. Could have sworn I used a paper clip to open that tray a few years ago, but it was so snug when I tried to do it today that I was sure I had remembered wrong.
Finally managed to get open and thankfully didn't break it.
Had my S9 for a couple of years and got an alert that there was an issue with my SD card. Been so long I had forgotten where to find it. Video reminded me. :)
Thank you Droid Life. This is very helpful.
I almost broke my S9 not knowing how to do it. I know it sounds stupid but there are 2 other small "holes" like that, in total they are 3. I was lucky i dont like to force things so i waited and found your video. Thank you so much
Thanks, Droid Boy! Used your how-to to fix my S9. Much appreciated.
Does it ruin the water resistance if you open it to put the sim card in and put it back or does it stay the same as if it never happened
Very basic I know, but was very helpful for me. I sure didn't want to have to go to the AT&T store just for this. Thanks alot
You have managed 10 sec advice to turn in to 3:38 min chit chat video.
Congratulations
This legit helped me tho lmao I was so confused and was using some plastic sticks I found in the box it does not work
I was actually looking for a video on how to literally get the pin out of the package it was in without tearing the box 😂 and he did it so effortlessy! I laughed when he said "try not to stab yourself with it" cuz that is exactly what I was thinking to myself
How in the world did Samsung manage to package it without creasing the paper box?
From an old lady: Very very helpful, thank you!
Thank you! I searched the comments because I could not find that damn tool, so I used a small paper clip. Worked like a charm.
Great video! I had no idea. Thank you for this! So....I have no idea where my box is. Can I use a pin or paper clip instead of the tool they provide?
heh, already knew most of this, just needed a close-up of the tray layout, i lost mine, and needed to 'make' a new one to get me by in the meantime, worked perfectly... thx
Thanks soooooooooo much. Your video showed me just what to do. Not always so easy for a 71 year old guy still learning
Thank you :D really wish it didn't have that annoying pin deal, after losing the original pin it's hard to open with a safety pin that bends all the time, I can only imagine how hard it would be for a physically challenged person or just anyone really
Lmao.. 😂 thank you Sir. I bought my S9 when they launched it and now in 2020 I want to expand it's Memory and had no idea that's what that metal thing was for. Patiently waiting for the S20 to drop though lol.
Never in my life would I have guessed the tool would be used like that. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for sharing this handy tip, specially when you are not close to a shop to do this for you.
1. Does taking the sim tray out reset your phone?
2. How do you move your internal storage items to your sd card?
This is my first experience with an unlocked phone. It has given me an understanding as to what I have to do to bring my new phone to life. I now know about the difference in simcard sizes. My Galaxy S5 using a Micro Sim and my S9+ using a Nano Sim. I am looking forward to this new adventure.
Damm, that was very informative. You talked clearly and showed step by step. I'm not tech savvy so yeah this was helpful. Maybe you can do a video on how to move your phone videos to your extended SD card thanks
Thank, you, thank you, thank you so very much for this video. While it may be basic to some, to an oldie like me your video was a godsend to give me confidence that I can do this.
You're not an oldie, you're a hottie
When I upgraded from my S4 to my S9 this helped a lot.
I had a S5 got a S9 wow the difference
Thanks! Clear and concise.
So easy to understand!! Thank you! One question. Once you add the new storage will all your pics and videos just be on the new staorage automatically? Or do you now need to tell the phone to place them there or is that not even a thing? Lol I’m not techy at all. Thank you in advance. 🙂
Thanks. That was helpful. What should you do if you lose the tool to eject the Cardslot ?
Me and my boyfriend's phones never came with that tool. Is there something else we can use besides that to get to the tray?
Thank you for sharing.I learned now.
This was very helpful to me! Thank You!
Thank you, GREAT VIDEO because they sure didn't show me this when I got my new phone at the Sprint store 🙄
Thank you, I wasn't sure which little hole I had to put it in and I didn't want to destroy my brand new phone lol.
A question, Is this when I Insert a new SIM card to a phone or is it the same sim that was in the phone?
After all these years of saving my old phone box I finally have a reason. Who's laughing now Stacy!!!? who's laughing now....
Ty very much. I have zero experience with this so I love that you made it easy. Ty!
Excellent. Helped a non tech old person lol . Cheers 👍
When you get roasted within the first 10 seconds of the video.
Thank you for this information. I was about to purchase a s9+ with 128gb, but why spend that when I can buy a s9+ with 64 gigs and then just put another 64gig card in it to expand the memory. Jusg wasn't sure that gig was compatible with it. Now I know it is. Much cheaper.
I don't if it has happen to anyone else but mine sometimes says to insert SIM card even tho it already is
Maybe your card is scratched badly?
@@Glovin it's fine, it already stopped
My mind just broke lmao. Thanks for your help man
Great video! 👏👏
You just put the sd card in? That's what I did but my phone doesnt recognize it. I thought you would tell me what to do in the os to set it up
Thx for the vids. Now I have 2 questions...I see that it says nano sd cards & how can we transfer our photos to the sd from our phones before this stupid update erases all our pics in our samsung cloud drive ...😫
Thanks a lot for this video! It helped me a lot with my new mobile Samsung S9
Thanks a bunch....perfectly executed video
Hi,I've just bought a "new" Samsung s9,had it for a week. Can I put sim and sd card from old samsung 7 in it,will it work immediately
A paperclip also works.
Do you ever actually get to the part where you change the SD card?
It may have been 'basic', but it helped me. Thanks!
Thankyou very much you saved me a fair amount of faffing around : )
Uuh.....*has a flashback of throwing the tray away* yeah! it's super easy!
So let's say that you buy phone from friend and don't have said took, what can I use as a replacement?
Would doing that while the phone is active corrupt the data of the sim card? Does the phone need to be shut off as well?
Is that the only way to put it in? Is it ok to take off the back to put it in?
Nano? The website said micro so I was trying to get it to fir as a micro. I guess it must be an error on their website or something
I know how to do it but i searched it up in case i was wrong. But the thingy wont pop up when i do it. Any tips?
I used a needle because I didn't have the tool that you used and it worked
Super thanx very much, I did it 😄
Great video. So my question is do I need to shut the phone off or go into settings for anything before I open and remove the little tray? Thank in advance!
I just added my SIM card without turning it off. It worked fine.
@@OodarkpandoraoO Ok thank you so much ❤
Great tutorial. Thank you!!
you should talk more before you actually show anything, people love that
Hi, Does info(i.e photos, emails, whatsap) on a galaxy S9 phone automatically get stored on the SD Card?
I dropped my phone, cracked the screen & when I turn it on the screen is either bright green & constantly flashing or dark red in colour, please can you advise, kind regards
Hi I ordered a Samsung Galaxy s9 yesterday through my carrier and just wanted to know if the new box comes with the sd and sim card already or do I have to buy them?
Can a samsung galaxy s6 active SIM card fit into the s9 plus SIM card slot?
Super helpful! Thank you so much!
Just upgraded from Note 4. I know, prehistoric. The old CD drive paperclip trick didn't work. Too big. Thank you. I would have never found this little key, and it is designed to deny entry to anything else you have around.
ill save you 3.5 minutes. left top of phone is a long panel with a tiny hole on right edge. take a paperclip or the little triangular key tool phone came with. put in hole, gentle push down. tray will pop up. pull up and out
Really helped out thanks
One guy said you should power the phone off first. Is that true?
Thanks mate. Hammer option averted.
Any info about when I am replacing a bad sim with a new one in a Galaxy S9 plus? Any info/ data lost?
I have an Samsung A5, will i be able to transfer my sim card to the s9?
Mine does not pop up as it shows in your video. I've tried it dozens of times, it will not open. Brand new phone :( What can I do?
Same problem here... Do you found a solution plz ? 🥺🥺 I'm lost
Wow. I got my gs9 2 years ago and the port is no longer working. I was freaking out trying to figure out how I'll transfer data. Well, here I am... I come along this and mind blown. Had absolutely NO idea. My stress level went back down to a zero knowing I have a way to get the data off before I upgrade.
Next issue... what phone.
I am not an apple/Iphone person.
Love my galaxies...
But have not heard the best thing about the 21 series since it seems to be eliminating SIM/SD card, head jack/headphones and charger....
Thank you! Easy peasy if you know how.
How do you buy it! What speed/size is advisable?
*Where do I buy an SD Card for my S9+ and also does it have to be from my carrier?* 👀
At any retail store like Walmart or Target. Most places have at least a couple different size options.
quick easy big thx...
Can I fill up my sd card with music folders and play them thru a bluetooth device?
What if you dont have the tool anymore? I feel out of luck..
I have a bit of a problem... My tray doesn't seem to want to come out...
Thankyou for this, nan just got this and shes no idea what shes doing and Im not near by to do it 😂
It's 2 years later- I didn't save the key. I've tried using a needle but it didn't fit. Suggestions? I can't find a paperclip. 📎
