    What "amuses" me on instructional videos, including excellent ones such as yours, is that finding the stitch into which you want to insert the hook is always CRYSTAL CLEAR - you couldn't miss it if you were blind, but when I follow along with my yarn and hook, it's like my vision has suddenly gone way out of focus. Tell me... where do you buy yarn like the magic yarn you demonstrators use - the kind where the stitches always remain clearly shaped and ready for insertion?

    • @lisa-cd1by
      @lisa-cd1by 4 роки тому

      Hi there! I’m not sure where to but the exact kind of yarn that you are asking for, but if you are using thicker yarn, like in the video, the stitches will obviously be bigger and therefore easier to see (but remember to use the correct hook size, too). I also find that cotton yarn, compared to wool and some acrylic yarns, will leave more prevalent stitches, as it is sturdier. If you are crocheting with dark colors that can also make it harder to see your work clearly, so if you’re having a hard time, I would advise you to use pastel colors or similar. Hope this helps!

      Rae0521, oh yes, even with this chunky yarn and big stitches, I cannot tell where she is inserting the stitch marker exactly. She explains everything very well but that. She just inserts the marker, like we know exactly where to do. Maybe need her magic yarn and then I cd automatically find the spot too. If you find such yarn for sale let me know.

    I'm now on my 4th day working BLO slip stitches using a 5mm hook and #4 Simply Soft Heather yarn. So far I have a piece of fabric that is 2" wide x 12" long (making a neck for a pullover sweater), It LOOKS great - just like knitting - but talk about WORK! No matter how loose I hold the tension, the stitches are tight... and to make matters worse, this yarn SPLITS and FELTS easily. I just wanted to chime in with this bit of "heads up" because while Marly's using a huge hook and bulky yarn to demonstrate, in the "real world" of smaller hook & thinner yarn, it's a lot tougher slog.

    I love your videos! They're super easy to follow and top quality. AND thank you for not starting out by showing us how to make a slip knot 🙄 I figure if someone is ready to do a slip stitch ribbing, they've moved out of the beginner phase of crochet and already know how to make a slip knot! It's hard to believe how many tutorials I've watched for advanced stitches/crochet techniques and they actually start off by showing how to make a slip knot for the crochet hook. UGH!

      For a hat, just turn ribbibg to top right hand corner and start making double crochets in each stitch until you get to the end. (Or double your choice of stitch). May only need to do one st. in each, depending how wide you need your project!

Still usable but I wanted to let you know. I don't use cotton that much anyway. Haven't tried it on wools yet as am saving them for knitting projects.

Thank you for sharing your talent. 1 question, since this is so stretchy, how do I determine the number of slip stitches to begin. Example if I need ribbing for 20 inches width item. No way 20 inches of ribbing would be needed right?

    LOL ... I've spent the last three days searching all around my county and on the internet for an item that I know I already have, but it is napping with the lost socks. It is a 9" circular needle for knitting a ribbed cuff.
    Frustration. Hard to find at all and the prices they're asking are ridiculous, so I'd resigned myself to try again with the way mother did it with four double ended knitting needles (I don't like knitting but mom was a whizkid with it and did argyle socks for my dad while he served in WWII). He wore some of those until his death in 1999.
    Standing at my sink I thought to myself (thank you God, by the way) .... hasn't anyone come up with a stitch in crochet that does this?
    New education and I thank you so much. You saved a lot of time and money .... and I love the stitch and will be working it into my own creations "soonly".
    Will that little circular needle jump out at me from somewhere tomorrow?

    Mist unravel it and do it all over again or it wouldn't make a difference?
    If I did not skip first chain of first row then would it mean that I shouldn't skip the turning chain and can make stitch in it? 😭
