Hey all! Looks like I goofed! TLDR: Can't copy products for personal use. It was my understanding that people were allowed to copy patented products so long as they were for personal use. After looking into copyright laws, turns out that's not the case - as one of my viewers pointed out in the comments. TANGENT: This YETI bottle opener design is under the "Ornamental Design" patent. Which to my understanding means if you want to make your own, make it look different enough so that the average layman doesn't mistake your thing for the patented thing. END TANGENT. I’m still learning design and how to express my passions in the world. And if my intentions to learn design by studying and replicating others’ work wasn't clear, I apologize. For example, in this video I learned that having an edge width and inset depth that are equal looks great! And using measurements that are halves or doubles of each other also creates a pleasing effect. And I would have never come to that realization without doing what I did. SO, that being said, I'm leaving an edited version of the video up because I believe it still holds educational and entertainment value for people, like me, who love to learn by replicating. This way, when we create something new, it can be even better as a result.
@frodebergetonnilsen you clearly didn't read his description, stop being a jerk. you don't like what he does or how he does it go somewhere else. " In this video, I replicate an awesome design I’ve come across and challenge myself to Identify elements to use in future designs."
If this has design value, and you clearly think so, you are clearly violating copyright, as you base this on someone else's work. Unless it without copyright protection, an you clearly claim that it does. This is not your design. So whenever you claim, in this video, this to be "my design", no, it is not. If you want to become a better designer, you need to design. I am not sure if we need to rip on people trying to copy somebody to learn how to design, but reproducing print and stuff, and claim that a ripoff is "my design", that it just wrong. That is called theft. One thing every designer learns, is that skilled designers do not need to steal. They need to learn, and techniques that are not under a patent is free to copy. But artistic expression or designs with genuine value, those who knows how to design, cannot make a living, if people just openly in public, like this, steal work. Why on earth anyone with any skill at design, would need to copy this bottle opener, is beyond me. If you need to copy something like this, you need to face your lack of skills. You're not made for this. Any claims on learning skills from this is flat out false. There is no discussion of technique or design choice, nor do you see to learn anything either. You simply just steal someone else's work, because you clearly think it has artistic value. What you make is also an abomination of the original, which seem to describe your real artistic talent. Which makes this a blunt copyright violation, and an instruction on how to commit a crime. So please tell me, that there is something going on here, that you never disclosed, that actually makes this legal. If not, you need to take this down.
Thanks for the comment! Dang, I don't know people wern't allowed to take publicly available images and info, create a model based off them, then NOT share the model publicly! Wow AND I didn't say what I learned along the way?! Well poo, there's always next time 👍
@@MileHighMaker I will just flag you then. Also, what I just argued, is pretty much the core of copyright law all across the free world. If you disagree with the law, and just breaks it, well then that is who you are. Isn't it? Abusive people tend to behave like this. Good luck criminal. You probably get away with this this time, but if you keep on like this, being this abusive and criminal, it might be worth informing the original copyright holder as well. That will be up to you. Farewell. May your channel rest in piece.
Never mind, the copyright holder needs to make a claim, so if it is there tomorrow, I will tip them of. Also, if you run a channel about design, don't tell people to break basic copyright law. What do you think will happened? If you are this stupid as to follow basic law and honor other people rights as designers, where on earth do you think that will get you. Again. Take it down. If it remains up, I will inform them of your violation.

🔥 29:28 is gold lol
Why didn't you make a hole and fillets on the sketch itself?
Good question

plastics for opening metal part it will not work too long in my opinion, but you can easyly put a small pice of metal for better grip :)
👍 thanks for the suggestion!
