They call this the "Front Yard Flyer", and it truly is small and nimble enough to be flown in such small areas. It is only 3ch, but has fully-proportional magnetic actuator control surfaces.
Enjoy!

My friend has the 1.3m wingspan super cub, so i'd love to get this and fly with his! Thanks for sharing, I'm such a fan!
your piloting skills are freaking amazing dude I know some of this stuff ain't as easy to fly as you make it look
Thanks! :D It's always flattering when I get comments from people that didn't realize how hard it is to fly a quad in my small kitchen, and stuff like that. I've even had more than a few people claim that my videos are fake and that I have a string attached to the quad! LOLOLOL That is the best piloting compliment ever. hahaha
great review bro 😃 I'm gonna buy this little plane
lovely little flier, centre of balance could do with moving forward slightly to help stop that power climb, would make a great xmas gift. Nice review, I always look forward to watching your reviews.
Awesome demo! really enjoyed! Also, thanks for the last go-around! You were reading your audience's mind! lol
Glad you liked it! :)
I'm really tempted, looks to fly similar to my Ares Sopwith Pup, it does not level out well though.
My Pup has an almpst identical remote, I don't like charging off 4 AA so I added a scrap USB cable to the battery terminals, I now fly with a USB power bank on the TX and charge the flight cell with the TX plugged into a phone charger, only used AA on the first day I had it.
Nice little plane :) A bit on the $ side but not bad :D I have a flight of my Skipper plane coming out today :)
Great review, Ryan. Thanks for the info.
Glad you liked it! :)
I still have this plane its in flawless flying condition looks brand new still and has about 300 flights on it and not one little dent or scratch suck a small fun plane to ksut have a nice relaxing flight in your backyard on a calm late evening in the fall down here on Gulf Coast no wind. I have a huge collection of micro rc planes and love them just as much as my big balsa and foam Acrobatic planes warbirds and scale planes
Wow! I've been looking for something like this!
Floats forever.More plane reviews please 😀
Wow, this may be what I'm looking for my indoor RC club flights. This company makes the Micro Tiger Moth which looks cool. $69.99 plus $2.00 shipping for the Tiger Moth seems very reasonable.
Anyone know what 2.4ghz protocol these use? I would be interested in buying one if I could bind it to my Taranis with a Multiprotocol module in its bay.
it is looking pretty cool and little wind resistance.
Yep I agree with your neighbour that is cool
Very cool and cute plane.
Who else would wish that such toys where offered/available when we where kids?!?!?
PS: yeah! You made that loop! = nice to watch!!! =]
Right!? My first RC car was a kit, and it was so annoying and frustrating to build that I left the RC hobby until I was an adult and things started coming "Ready To Fly/Drive". My family lived on a farm though, so I picked up the model rocket hobby when I was young, and that was pretty cool. That allowed me to explore my passion for flight, without having planes available to fly. And, I'm glad you liked the loop! :)
Thats what i need on my 1/2 acre place. Love how it flies nice n slow. Awesome!!! how much for this tiny one???
RYAN...Just an FYI... your trim was upwards on the elevator trim button... which is actually DOWN elevator trim for the aircraft. Cool little plane and good review.
Great review, the gateway Plane.
A good plane to teach anybody how to use der sticks.
another good review
great review cool little plane do you have to adjust the CG it look like a little tell heavy to me but it was kind of hard to see
I don't think it was tail heavy, but just designed to climb with throttle, so I had to trim that out, since an experienced pilot doesn't need that. :)
Flyin' Ryan RC yeah same characteristics as a trainer plane I like that little plane
I'd got the same impression, looks like it'd benefit putting the battery vertical behind or in front of it's vertical board, might shift CG forward just enough. cute tiny little plane
nice review
I just joined your channel. Nice flying.
Wow worst case scener that did help that actually helped alot. So basically I do need that 120 amp though or i will burn out my 60 amp esc. So all Need is a more powerful motor? I am getting 11.1v lipo battery. So all i need is a more stronger brushless motor?
Seeing that Hobby People went out of business, i've looked around the internet for another company that might offer it or one similar. I've found some other micro cubs but none that match the tiny size of this one (excluding the f22 planes like the one from macfree). Do you know of any other brand that makes a cub-looking rc plane of this same size?
Looks a cool little plane
Is there anywhere that I can buy this today? The link in the description doesn’t work anymore and I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Oh man, I just did some searching and it looks like Hobby People went out of business. :( And I searched eBay and Amazon and Google, and I don’t see anyone selling this plane anywhere. Looks like I better hold onto mine as a collector’s item! haha
looks hard to fly, good flying Ryan! 😁
Thanks! It's actually pretty easy to fly, as long as the wind is low and you have enough space for it. :)
I find the same like this
It's price is 40$
So do u think I must buy it or not?
Thanks
Great video reviews,
This is the best option under a $100 for a begginer with a space to fly like yours ?
I'm not sure it would be great for beginners, just because it's not overly durable. I learned to fly in my flying area with the HobbyZone Champ, which I think is more durable.
Once you know all of the tendencies of these little planes it’s almost more fun to fly them in 5mph winds, I did that with my inum in my front yard and had a blast!
Neat lil flier. Looks fun to fly as long as there is almost no wind. Knowing me I would probably tinker with the wings and cut in some ailerons and position them to help bleed off that excessive lift it tends to have. Cheers
I think you hit it well, in a gym or warehouse, perfect flying venue.
For me, even though we're not talking a lot of dough, for the same amount, I'd prefer a sporty quad. For that matter, I just realized I'd prefer a quad over anything fixed wing.
But hey, that's just me and beauty of RCing is, there's something for everyone.
If that were a carrier landing, you'd need to line up three; CVN 72, Lincoln, CVN 73, Washington and CVN 76, Reagan, LOL!
+Steve RC LOL about the landing! And yeah, I definitely prefer quads now, but there's something pretty exciting about flying such a small plane around the front yard. :)
I shouldn't bag on your landing, I've seen you so some tricky flying I couldn't come close to.
Cheers Ryan!
Steve RC No worries at all! It wasn't the best of my landings for sure. The wind just wanted to keep this thing gliding, and I hadn't had enough practice with it yet to get good at the landings. :)
My Champ RTF G-FLYR does the same thing when the battery dyes I have to glide it down
They are all very nice, I have a mini, and I mean mini.. helicopter and drone. I use them to upset my cats. Do you have little gopros?
The problem with her desire to fly tail low is the relation between the stab and the wing. Either shim the back of the wing to knock some of the positive angle out of the wing or shim some positive angle to the stab. The preferred way is to add more positive to the stabilizer by shimming the front of it a little. That also makes it fly better in a glide too.
The RC PLANE Is Amazing Great Review!!!
How Much That Cost??
Price and purchase link can be found in the video description.
it better to fly it at the park mate
Yeah To Avoid Some Wires
Denzel man toys- industrial ltd melbourne The entire point of a plane this small is to fly in small areas. No park needed.
na you have got power line's in your street
pretty neat
Very nice, now this l like!
So if it climbs with throttle, just slowly bring throttle back till level. the lift for the speed is so high with higher airspeed
I have a rc channel. we want cheap planes to destroy in the most fun ways. this good? or what do u suggest for cheapest planes
+Century Flight Sure, this would be good, or maybe the WLtoys F949. Or maybe you can find some used ones on eBay.
I hate you for reviewing this, now I want one ;-)
Any chance this is compatible with other radios (DX6i, Devo7e,...) ?
Have you tried moving the lipo a little forward to correct pitch ?
Ryan that plane is so freaking awesome!!!!! How much wood something like that go for? Are you familiar with 1/10 brushless setups for RC cars because I want to swap my 60 amp esc for a 120 amp esc to make my car go faster would that be able to support and 11.1v Li-po battery.
+Paul Santora The plane was $50. And, the other commenter got it right... simply replacing the ESC will have no affect on speed. It all depends on the motor, and how many LiPo cells they can handle. My Traxxas Stampede can take up to a 3S LiPo, and is MUCH faster with that 3S than it is with the NiMH it came with. However, you then also run into the issue of breaking plastic parts like crazy and then you need to upgrade to metal parts in order to handle the greater speed.
i enjoy your vids bud
A question, how did you get invilved with reviewing RCs and are you given them for free?
regards
+Jade Bonfils-Persson I just started reviewing... nothing more to it than that. And, once my channel grew and I proved that I can make good videos, sponsors started approaching me and offering me free items to review.
+Flyin' Ryan RC thanks, all the best with the reviews
35Mah battery!! I NEVER KNEW NUMBERS WENT THAT LOW!! mind freak.....
+Meteor Shower Yeah, I had a double-take at that too... still not sure I believe it. heh
Flyin' Ryan RC I think I'll stick with my pair of 2s 5000Mah 35c for my rc truck..... For my planes there's a couple of 3s and for a different plane a handful of 150mah. Isn't it amazing how much technology is coming along?
And to get it to fly level make sure you got it perfectly balanced or slightly nose heavy and also add a drop of hot clue as weight balast as well and no problem with it climbing or high alfa
hey, cool plane M8.
But i have a question,
I am looking for a drone whit camera to make footage. but i don t want to pay alot of money on it.
i am from belgium so i can t buy every drone, but maby you know wich drone i can choose the best?
+Matthias Daenen
look at my channel. i got the syma x5sc
on gearbest for only 66 euro's in our case
Ok i wik look
+Matthias Daenen
and do you like it?
and how old are you?
rc model boats i think around 12-14 seems on picture
yeah. i know.. but just asking.
And is that your smallest li-po you have?
+JC Quadcopters Yep! :)
$50 everything needed not bad. I have seen prices of others north of $50 and some round $10 cheaper. For $50 awesome entry level price or for the city dweller perhaps someone that can not run to a park and wants(needs therapy) flight time. Nice find thanks for cluing me in.
If you learn to fly on a 4ch rc airplane and you get one of these to fly for fun will it be hard to fly because your use to 4ch? And can flying it mess up your skill of flying more advanced planes. This is coming from a beginner pilot 😁
hey nice plane i am fan
Looks like its CG is a bit too far back. Did you try a bit of nose weight?
If it's trying to climb all the time, wouldn't you have to add DOWN elevator? You kept saying you were adding UP elevator. ???
I was adding UP elevator TRIM, which does indeed give more down elevator.
you make it look easy.
That IS a cute little flyer. A few comments (you knew those were coming, didn't you?). When you said you had to trim the elevator to keep it from climbing, you were giving it DOWN elevator trim .. not up. Forward stick is DOWN elevator. To keep the plane from Zooming (up) so much, you can try 2 things. First, check the CG (center of gravity). To keep it from zooming, the balance point (CG) should be about 30% back of the leading edge of the wing. So, if the wing is 3 inches wide, the balance point should be at about 1 inch from the leading edge of the wing. The 2nd thing you can do is to reduce the decalage if possible. This is the difference between the angle of attack of the wing, vs. the angle of attack of the stab. The bigger the difference, the more it will zoom. Tape a straw across the stab, and the underside of the wing and observe the angular difference. The wing should have just slightly more positive incidence than the stab. (in high speed competition aerobatic planes, this angle is kept to zero .. neutral stability makes it easier to perform stunts). As for doing loops, you've got the right idea in diving to build up speed. However, make sure you are going directly into the wind for best results (and give it full throttle as you go into the loop ... you can cut back on it after you've crested the top.). As you said, best save this little guy for windless mornings or nights, or the gymnasium. Thanks for the review ... amazing little plane! Cheers!
I would disagree about the terms... up is up... so thus I am giving UP elevator trim, which indeed moves the elevator down. Sure, the term is "down elevator" but when refer to trim or stick movement, I believe the terms are relevant to that input, not the actual movement of the elevator. Especially when speaking on video, where people can't see what I'm actually doing. And, as far as the zooming, I'm pretty sure that is how the plane is designed. I can't move the battery forward any more to adjust CG, but I probably could add weight to the nose to make the plane behave more to my liking.
I guess I could further express my thoughts on up versus down this way:
I'm giving up "elevator trim"
as opposed to
I'm giving "up elevator" trim.
See what I'm saying?
+Flyin' Ryan RC Uhh ... have you ever flown in a real airplane? Specifically, in a Piper Cub? I have. The original had a stick between your legs, and rudder pedals. Move the stick forward for down elevator, pull it back toward you for up elevator. Left and right moved the ailerons. Left rudder pedal for left rudder and right rudder pedal for right rudder. Throttle was a pull knob on the instrument panel. (in earlier versions, the throttle was located on the left side of the cabin wall). I can see what you're saying .. you are moving the elevator stick UP towards the top of the TX. Doing that, you will be applying down elevator. It's basically the same with a quad ... moving the stick UP towards the top of the TX will pitch the quad down (forward initially, but unless you have enough power, too much forward stick will plow you into the ground). I guess it all depends upon your perspective. Having flown both real and fixed wing r/c aircraft for ... a long time ... my perspective is a bit different than yours. Viva la difference!
I am absolutely familiar with real airplane controls... I have great passion for flight and have done my research. I have also taken the controls in a plane, and a helicopter, during tours, though I've never gotten a pilot's license. But, again, we are talking about RC control, not actual flight controls. So, I remain adamant that when referring to stick and trim input on an RC transmitter, you refer to the movement of the stick or trim, not the control surface... particularly in the case of telling viewers what you are doing.
I'm not sure what that adds to this discussion? I know how flight controls work, and you've only complicated matters by using the terms "forward" and "backward" instead of up and down. heh I'm simply saying, when I'm talking about giving trim input, I am referring to the direction I am pressing the trim button... and that is up. And in reference to your analogy about forward making the nose go down, one could also think of "up makes the tail go up". heh ;)
Can you do more plane reviews from horizon hobby?
+Shwepnick I will as I can, but in general their planes are way too expensive for me to review a lot of them.
Hiya Ryan I have a question I have a couple micro planes and they all have those magnetic servos and I don't know if it's just my luck but they don't seem to be very accurate what do you think of this one. I have been wanting to get another airplane but one I can fly here at home my others I have to go to a flight field and it's not so easy for me to get around these days but this looks like it would work for me just wondering about those stupid magnetic servos 😕 anyway if you could let me know I'd appreciate it thanks dude 👍👽👍
+Dave “Quad Therapy” Vale They seemed pretty precise to me... or at least as precise as needed. I had no problems flying this one in the small areas in front of my house, and getting it to do exactly what I wanted it to do. :) These magnetic actuators are proportional.... maybe the ones you are used to were not?
+Flyin' Ryan RC O.K. it's just with the ones I have it seems like when you want to turn or go up or down its FULL RIGHT OR LEFT and FULL UP OR DOWN and no in between. I have been wanting to get back to flying airplanes again but I'm not sure why planes have gotten so much more expensive than they used to be but this one at 50 bucks seems OK I'm just worried about those servos is all thanks again brother I appreciate that you answer my questions so thanks again and have a great day 👍👽👍
+Dave “Quad Therapy” Vale Ah, yeah, so that means they were not proportional. This one is, so you can make as little or as much movement as you want. :)
Flyin' Ryan RC AWESOME I'M GETTING IT! I can't wait to fly a plane again I miss it so much THANKS DUDE! YOUR THE BEST! 🍻 👍👽👍
Can I use hubsan x4 500mah batteries on this thing?
+Star lord Well, first the plug type is different, so you'd have to at least change that. But, likely that battery would be way too big and heavy for this plane, and even if it did fly, it would horribly affect the flight characteristics.
Have u used it indoor and can it go backward plz?
It would work in a large indoor space, like a gym. And no, it doesn't go backwards, like most planes.
Honestly this is the best indoor plane ....Night vapor looks like insect & just doesn't give u the plane feeling .................. For outdoor, high speed low alpha flying u can make it a bit nose heavy by pushing battery more towards front of plane.
How much is the plane? it seems really fun to play with.
+Tylor Maropoulos Price and purchase link can be found in the video description.
What do you do with all your RC after you review it
+Monkeyboygilis I keep some, and I give some away to friends and family.
Do you where to get thoes small remote controll
+Bao Khang Kelvin Huh?
Maybe you can put the battery further forward in the nose to solve the high alpha problem? Just a thought great review again Ryan!
+X-FLIGHT101 There's not really any room to move the battery, and the cable isn't that long. But, yeah, I'm sure adding some sort of weight to the nose would help.
Hey, Flyin Ryan, I don't know if you remember me from my previous posts, but I trust you. You have always been 100% upfront and honest with your viewers, after battling false advertising from a "drone company". I have 40.00 dollars left in my drone fund. I am looking for an FPV mini or micro drone. What is your recommendation? Your faithful viewer Mike.
I'm not sure you can get FPV for under $40, unless you get WiFi FPV, which is pretty worthless. There are a ton of "Tiny Whoop" quads out these days, which are micro FPV quads. They even have some brushless ones. But again, I don't know of any under $40.
Flyin' Ryan RC, I've found some good deals. Got a parrot for $20, a free micro, and a few amazing discounts. I suppose I should rephrase my question. Forget the price. Once I find a good FPV micro or mini, I'll figure out a way to knock the price down or find it on the cheap.
can you do the airplane f949
Do more plane reviews!!
Is you video release planned? If so, about what time do you upload? Because I'm a big fan of yours and I want to watch your videos early as I can. And what is your time zone?
And do you have a room full of RCs or something, lol
+Random Guy Yeah, I usually publish videos on M/W/F at 11am Central Time. Though, for this month I am releasing videos every weekday at 11am, and each weekend day at 1pm. You can also go to your subscription manager here on UA-cam and set it so that you can email notifications whenever I publish a video. :)
+Random Guy Yeah, I have RCs, and RC boxes, stashed all over my house. lol
+Flyin' Ryan RC
Oh, ok thanks for the reply, now I won't miss any of you vids :)
GREAT PLANE!
I really want this plane but in italy it's impossible to find!!!😤😤😤
for 50 bucks its way to flimsy the first crash the wing snapped and the charging port fell right off the plane, so now its useless
me too. i am in vietnam and i can not find it .
Alex 1193 ho visto un piper giallo delle stesse dimensioni ad Albert Model (Brescia).
Looks like it needs a bit of down thrust on the prop. Too bad the little battery can't be farther forward for some nose weight, maybe.
Nice
How much it cost bro
Looks like a great flyer based on ur review think I'll order this one and I'll tell tower hobbies to give u some boot cause wouldn't have bought it cause in the tower catalog it looked kinda cheesy Thumbs up bud
+4thGloryMonday Tower Hobbies doesn't sell this, so you must be thinking of some other model?
hobby people haha same model just got my names mixed up
I'd like to see a paintball war between Horizon and Tower employees...
oh i know but gotta get the hk guys in on it as well
Have u tried wltoys F949 for 40 USD from ebay ....that thing is awsome. 30 mins of realistic flight per battery charge.
Yes, I actually have the F949 and do plan on reviewing it at some point. It's quite heavy though, which means it needs to fly fast, which means you can't fly it in a very small area like in front of my house.
Cool plane but needs foam strip under fuselage and tail plane is a bit small (scale effect).
Cool
would any one recomend thisfor 5-6 year olds because i have the super cub lp and my nephews want a plane of their own
+ExplosiveChaos I really doubt a kid that young would have much success flying a plane like this. You might consider one of the Air Hogs products, like the ones that have a wind-up propeller, or are launched via an air pump.
yea but i used to have a hobyzone champ and they could fly it very well their only problem is the wind but i do know how repair rc planes and many other rc toys
+ExplosiveChaos Really, they could fly a Champ!? Wow, that's quite impressive! Well, this is a lot like the Champ, but even smaller, so it would require even less wind, and it's probably a bit more fragile than the Champ.
+Flyin' Ryan RC ok thanks for the help ill sub scribe to you if i ever need any more recommendations ill probably get 2 of the for my nephews and they loved the champ until a eagle snatched it while gliding and i never found it
+ExplosiveChaos Thanks! And, awesome! Sucks to lose an RC, but an Eagle attack has got to be the best way to go. hahaha :)
I had that but it broke
Can u get this in the uk. British pounds
No idea. You'd need to check the store I linked to, or see if it's available at Amazon UK, or something like that.
cool
You should add 'down', not "up", elevator trim if it's trying to climb. The reason it's flying tail low is either because it's tail heavy, or the engine is mounted so the propeller thrust line is angled slightly upward, or the wing or horizontal tail is mounted so that the front edge is angled a little upward. The manufacturer probably designed it to always climb to help beginners. It should fly much better if you can fix that problem because the way it is now it always wants to climb-stall. I would check the balance first, the engine mounting second, and the wing/tail third. Note that the propeller centerline, when looking from the side should be perpendicular to the fuselage centerline. You can Google how to check these things. Good luck!
+Jimbo in Thailand No, it's UP trim, which gives down elevator. I am referring to the trim button I am pressing, which is UP.
That may be true for drones, but for real aircraft, as well as RC
aircraft, the convention is that the trim direction refers to the
direction you want the nose of the aircraft to be adjusted for level
flight. By adding 'down' trim you are angling the elevator downward,
which will force the nose of the aircraft down. Up trim means nose up.
For the rudder, it's the same, i.e., add 'right' trim to move the rudder
to the right to adjust the nose of the aircraft to the right. or left
for left. Of course, we're not referring to the controller switches as
that can lead to confusion depending on how someone holds the
controller.
And, obviously, multi-rotor drones fly more like helicopters so the trim
switches have different functions. Yep, their ain't no rudder or
elevators on a multi-rotor drone. ;^) And I realize you're a drone
guy, but... when in Rome...
Cheers from Thailand!
speaking of flying in small areas...I am able to fly my Vapor in my living room. I couldn't believe it, but I had full control and could land deadstick on the couch! 😎
I got the tiger moth
Link on Amazon?
Hobby People went out of business, so I don't think you can buy this model anywhere any more. :(
А как он далеко летает?
Where can I buy this plane??
Purchase link can be found in the video description.
Anyway to make it 4 channels?
Not easily.
@@theimacman wings are too weak to cut ailerons in them?, they can't handle the weight of the servos and their extensions, the plane can't take a 4 channel receiver, or it will need a bigger battery that would exceed the airframe limit, if all these problems are solved, would it succeed?
nice review as always. some weird glitchy video happening at about 10:15
+rayikaikin Oh weird... stinkin' UA-cam compression issue. :(
Flyin Ryan you haven’t posted in a while man. What’s going on?
is this worth buying because I would like to get into flying rc planes.
+Harry Thomason I would say yes this is worth buying, but if this would be your first plane, I would not suggest starting with this.
Ok thanks. Do you have any recommendations for a decent starter plane that's not too pricey
+Harry Thomason That's a hard recommendation to make. Do you have any RC experience? And RC flying experience? I started flying with a 2 channel Air Hogs plane, just to get a feel for it. Those are very durable and can survive a lot of crashes while you learn. And then I moved on to a 3 channel HobbyZone Champ. One of the newer Horizon Hobby models with SAFE would probably be good for learning, like the HobbyZone Super Cub. Or maybe check out the WLtoys F949.
+Flyin' Ryan RC thanks a lot. I've actually been looking at the wltoys f949 so I might have a look and but one. the only experience I've got is flying drones. thanks a lot for the super quick feedback aswell. I enjoy watching your videos and they are very helpful!
+Harry Thomason If you can fly a quad, you should have no problem learning to fly a plane with the F949. :) Glad you like my videos! I will possibly review the F949 in spring, after the snow clears up... unless WLtoys has a new plane out by then. That Cessna 182 design is a very easy flying plane though, so I would think that should be a great model for beginners. :)
How much did you pay for the plane
Price and purchase link can be found in the video description.
3ch planes really don't cut it for me. I just like to have ailerons just in case.
No wonder it likes to climb! It's tail heavy! Move the CG forward a bit and enjoy your flight rather than fighting the tail all the time!
Unfortunately this R/C airplane is no longer available. Hobby People has closed all of their hobby shops. This is very sad. Also they were the importers of Airtronics radios too. It looks like Airtronics radio control systems are also gone. Maybe these radios will come back under the Sanwa name? I still have one of these planes new in the box.
I have this plane and its wing are literally only out of tape because they snapped off in mid flight
what is the meaning of RTF?
+Muhamad Hafizh "Ready To Fly"... means it comes with everything you need to fly (except batteries for the transmitter).
+Flyin' Ryan RC ok,thank you! :)
the plane is tail heavy. change CG forward a bit for smoother and more scale flight.
is it for begginers?
+mohammad saghir It might be a bit fragile for beginners. And it also requires very low wind, which would make it harder for a beginner to find time to fly it, or they would have more trouble if they were trying to fly it in wind.
