Marth's grab range hails in comparison.
question HOW DO U BUFFER ON DS!?!?!?!?
I don’t understand shield dash pls
you forgot shield poking
Edit: and trample
Edit: and heavy/super armor
I would like to point out to newer players that you don't have to remember ALL of these in order to be good at smash, professional players only use a few of these of these depending on the character they are playing. However it is good to know a good handful of these so you can better adapt to your opponent's playstyle or to even mix up your attack patterns to confuse your enemy and to catch them off guard. None of these techniques shine more then others as each have their various uses and prove to be more useful to different players depending on their character, and the playstyle they like to use! It's up to you to find which of these techniques best suits you!
^ what he said. I got pretty overwhelmed when watching this. I started to quit before I even started. I’ve been playing smash forever casually with friends. Had no idea about the depth of this game.
Part 1: "Press A to Jab"
Part 2: "While in the air tap left, quickly after that press B and then at a speed of 38mph tap right to preform a wavebounce"
Kappa
Mashing is an advanced technique.
Let that sink in
...Ok
Smash: mashing is a advanced technique
Pokken: doing nothing is a advanced technique
Laranjo Pokken is still a good game. Not as Smash, but it's the only really good Pokemon fighting game.
I never said it isn't a good game 🤔
Laranjo Well give me your code so I can challenge you XD (not today)
"Use the c-stick!"3DS players are still here, Izaw.(Me)
If I have the new 3ds, there is a c stick
I have a 2ds.
mrSnacks I still want to be good, tho.
+SovaLXXV the 3ds c stick is retarded tho and doesn't do the right input most of the time.
***** Better than nothing? I'e played on a New 3DS because of curiosity, and the c-stcik didn't do shit for me.
Damn... I have a lot to learn before smash ultimate
Yeah true! I've played smash for along time and didn't really know alot of strategies. I'm good at marth but I really want to main shulk since I love xenoblade and the Xeno series.
Yeah same that explains why many people prefers the gc controller
yeah I mean... I never got the chance to own any of the previous systems with a ssb game series... and if I played it was casually with some friends... but now that I own a switch I really want to give this game the time it desserves and be really good at it...
and since this is a fresh start for me (and I'm not afraid to say it) I will be using the nintendo switch pro controller... and maybe with some time i will choose the mos apropiate controller to use
I am from future. Just like Sonic forces, Smash ultimate SUCKS.
@@n1tromyst682 ok shut tf bro no it doesn't
I've been playing Sm4sh for almost 2 years and I didn't know about the instant dash attack QQ
Same.
I usually play on 3DS... FeelsBadMan

I had no idea this game was so deep. I am glad I found your videos!
Your videos are amazing Izaw. Smash 4 has been out for almost two years now and I think these will be of great help to new players. I've been playing since the start and I've still learned a lot! I look forward to seeing the expert and master levels.
Wow its good to see someone really tackle the "how do i get good" question in depth like this. The next thing i want to see from any of the smash 4 youtubers is "when to roll and when not to roll" Subscribed.
I probably haven't looked hard enough, but this is the first time I've seen a video that actually explains how to do shield dashing. Thank you SO much for this, as it's proven extremely helpful thus far.
To much info. Gotta go back to the basics.
Great guide! I definitely realized I was confused as to how to execute certain things before from reading people's guides and doing them wrong but you really cleared some of that up.
I've been in the competitive smash scene for a little over a year now and I realize that I rarely do some of these. Thanks Izaw! (btw as a link main I think you are the best in the world)
Never hurts to brush up on the many different techniques whenever you feel lost. Gotta' work on my input buffering, reverse aerial rushing, and perfect pivoting. Thanks!
I've been trying to teach my younger brother to play Smash, and videos like these are great for that. Keep making quality videos.
I like how the characters that go with the splash text are perfect for what the text says
That Art of Roy spoiler video though... Not that I mind, I am happy for getting Roy video
Izaw said in a previous video that he was working on a Art of Roy, so this isn't much of a spoiler. I guess it spoils that it MIGHT be released soon but if you follow his twitter you can see on there that it is close to being released.
+Arjun Suresh My b then, still happy though
I hope so, my Roy could really use a good guide, and I haven't seen one around.
Long time fan. Keep up the great content man. Very simple breakdown. This video was helpful for my friends who couldn't keep up or got frustrated with me trying to teach or explain. Well done. Can't wait for expert and more vids for us higher education smash players.
Thank you so much for making these guides. I think i may play these on my phone while practicing the techniques. I've been wanting to get into competitive smash but i've never been good enough. Thank you so much! You, sir, have gained a sub
Loving this series... Can't wait to train and show off on my friends. Thanks a lot IZAW.
this is the most helpful summary of smash techs anywhere. you're really amazing! PS: also. thank you for making link top tier :D
Really love how perfect the clips are for each of the topics you explain.
Subscribed!
thanks for this help im definetly gonna have to practice jump cancel and buffering
An amazing video, very well done! :) Each technique is paired with a detailed yet simple explanation, keep up the good work!
Nice job, you broke it down quite well. Can't wait to see the expert version!
Izaw. I have been following your videos since brawl days, good stuff! Keep it up 👍🏼
nothing new for me here...
but I'm happy you're teaching others the secrets of getting gud. :)
(also as an Ike main, the how to Ike blessed me.)
Ike mains unite!
Walter Puff short hop f-air all day!
Jasper Walker dont forget side b with no landing lag!
Walter Puff YES! I use it as a mix up in recovering and in neutral.
I'll either fly over or stop right in front of you,
then follow up with a down tilt or pivot f-tilt.
if the tilts hits shield, I'm good cause it's positive!
Ike is GREAT.
Jasper Walker same - although i don't use it as much as i probably should. i didn't know you could b-reverse side-b until this video - hopting i can integrate it into my gameplay.
i really like this video it has dramatically improved my smash 4 tech skill thanks!
You make hands down the best content!!! Thank you this is so useful!!!
When a fan makes better tutorials than the creators...
Keep up the good work!
RIP 3DS users
Cynthetik yeah :(
I hope this works for New 3Ds...
Any way to do this at new 3ds?
Can this not be done on 3DS?
Nope I can B reverse and Wabebounce on the 3ds.
This was helpful.I can't wait to practice this in Smash Ultimate
Feels good to know i did most of this before the vid came out and it wasnt like, perfect pivot stuff
This video is got to be the best video guide that I ever sern
that Art Of Roy hype is growing after seeing this video
i subbed just of how helpful this is thanks dude!
im watching these so that i have a decent idea of how to play it because im getting the switch version soon!
Just found these videos now but they're amazing! I don't play often but I love watching people play and I want to know exactly what's going on so I can join in the fun!
After watching these first two Art of Smash videos, I can't help but feel like you left out a step. "Step 0: Get a gamecube controler." Because all your descritions of how to do...everything are GC controler specific. Maybe not a big deal for the upcoming Expert and Master videos.... but for Basic? Yeah, might be a problem for kids in that 10 to 13 starting-to-get-serious-about-this range, who might not have anyone in their family who owned a Gamecube, or any previous Nintendo console. ...that went a little heavier than I intended. Basically, I think the first video, and maybe even this one, shouldn't have been so controler specific, since they're for people just learning the game. Otherwise, great video! Very informative.
I'm glad he's giving this information 9:32 to us
This is really helpful. At first it was unnatural to not use the control stick to jump but using L will help with the transition
one thing I found to help with the timing of
b-reversing would be to treat it like a smash attack
The Zelda animations at the start is so dope.
Thank you for these tips I literally knew none of this and ive been playing for 6 months. i realized I theres a limit to how good I could be if I didn't know proper smash skills.
NOW I realize how those people made their characters move faster than they should.
I love this series
1:01 Marth is that you?
Night Bot Imagine Marth could do that in Melee, his grab would cover 5 billion light years!
Huh... so maybe here's another part of he equation for why I suck. I've only mastered around half of these... I'm going to uh... go check beginner, too... just in case I've... missed anything else...
You are helping me a lot, keep that good work
Izaw, I see in the description that it says to contact you on discord if you need a coach/teacher. I feel like I do because I've been playing Sm4sh for a while and haven't really improved to the skill level that some of my friends are or people I see online. I tried to contact you on Discord but I don't know how :( Please help!
have you added me.. ?
I tried but it didn't work I think...
I friend requested you I think
I sent you a friend request, my name is Xmoss in discord
Can't find you, let me add you..
Instant Dash Attacks in Ultimate use C-stick in the same direction as dash, so IDA right = L-stick right + C-stick right :)
Solid information right here. Been practising with new controls (though with the 3DS which SUCKS ASS *compared to the WiiU's controller options.*)
I totally missed the part about the difference between the pivot-tilt and pivot-grab thing. Seems I get the best luck trying to go for a pivot-grab when I hit grab at the same time as I pivot.
The higher stuff, welp, I guess I'm shit outta luck until I can get some time in on the WiiU version. The controls there are WAY better than the 3DS version.
Going to be referencing this vid heavily while I git gud. Totally looking forward to the rest of this series. Take your time tho, I'm not in a rush (and if you rush the next vid it might not be as solid as these two.)
This is an amazing series!
Awesome video. But everyone, just keep in mind, you can learn all the advanced techs you want, but those alone won't help you git gud. You will mostly git gud with practice and experience.
1:03 they call me marth up in here
I'll be needing this once I get a GameCube Controller.
never played a Smash but will get it on Switch , hope the game play is the same because these are very helpfull ..thanks for making
This is a great guide for smash
It appears some characters are not capable of the turn around special; I tested it with Link, so I know it's possible...
Captain Falcon (he just turns around)
Donkey Kong (no noticeable effect)
Ganondorf (he just turns around)
Jigglypuff (just changes direction)
Little Mac (no noticeable effect)
Meta Knight (doesn't seem necessary anyway)
Pac-Man (no noticeable effect)
Samus (no noticeable effect)
Shulk (no noticeable effect)
Sonic (no noticeable effect)
I'd love to be taught a bit more about the advanced fundamentals of SSB, I've had a lot of crap from a large number of players for dumb reasons and would love to 'beat the bullies' as such, as I want to prove that these communities don't have to be bashed for mean players and elitism. I'm not a terrible player, not a great one (topped a couple of locals, but thats all), but the way myself and others have been treated by members of these communities shouldn't speak volumes for the communities themselves. You don't have to be a dick to be good, basically.
If you can help me prove this, I'll be forever in your debt...
I'm working as a trainer/teacher right now and work with students from all kind of levels. I do training sessions for 25$ per hour, and voice chat with you as I tutor you and teach you anything you want to learn. You can buy 1 hour and see if you want to continue :)! If I could afford it right now, I would my friend, but alas, I'm waiting on my new job to start, I may well hit you up in the future though. Being in the UK, time difference can be a bitch though :P
from the videos he sounds like an excellent teacher. No reason he should do it free when time is the most valuable thing we have in life
@@drowningin its money that is the most valuable.
@@Trails3rdFanboy you will know otherwise when you have plenty of money, but not much time left to live. also money is measured by time. first question, what is your desired salary per month or year and not measured by how much you already have. if you were poor youd desire
eed more than if you were rich. if you want to get rich you got to start thinking of your time as valuable
Nice video! Learned about jump cancel reversed up smash which is great for my Mario. If you got time can you put time stamps in the description or something? It would be pretty useful for people like me who want to go back to these videos to see specific points again. Thanks for the video! :D
These videos help a bit I don't use a GameCube controller I use a Wii remote and nunchuck
bowser's pivot grab though :D
So for practicing using my c-stick and buffering aerials, I have to jump with x and perform aerials with my c-stick but at the same time moving my thumb fast enough so it buffers?
or is there an easier way?
I did wave bouncing in slow motion and i figured out that how it it works is right when you press special you have maybe 3 frames to change direction and when you change direction the momentum comes with you causing the "bounce". i was using mario im not sure if its different with others
if you keep practicing you will find the spot to change direction
I played Melee when I was a child, now I'm coming back to play Ultimate. I never used C-stick on Melee, but looks like it is a skill that I have to learn.
But I'm having a hard time figuring it out, because I saw some people discussing about if it's better having C-stick configured as "attack" or "smash".
I want to practice C-Stick right away, since the game is realeasing tonight, but I don't know exactly how to do it. What are the right moments to practice C-Stick and when should I just use A button?
Izaw, your definition on Trample is wrong. Those are just moves with partial invincibility that can cancel out other moves (and I don't think there's a specific term for those).
Trample refers to the property where if a move clashes, it will continue the attack animation instead of getting the character into a clash state. You can see this with Little Mac's jabs and tilts. For example, if Little Mac's first hit of f-tilt clashes, he will continue into the second hit and the opponent gets hit since they are in their clash animation (unless they clashed with a Trample move of their own).
By this logic, aerials (that are not projectile-based, but projectiles don't have the Trample property anyways) cannot be Trample moves because aerials can never clash.
I swear to god i wish i found these videos earlier! Well, I guess it's still not too late to learn!
will you be going over My Smash Corner's video of Step Dashing in the later videos?
I always use the c stick for tilts and aerials except for SH buffered fair, nair, bair and dair.
your videos are awesome izaw!
4:42 Diddy did a Jack Burton
8:03 - Well, I already use C-Stick for Attack, so I'm good for Step 1.
Step 2, I do also Shield Dash, so I think I'm on the clear there, as well as pivoting into Smashes/Grabs.
Step 3, not sure that I can do this one, cause I use Tap Jump so Up-Smashing out of shield seems a bit hard... Dunno, I'll try to practice it.
Step 4, already do buffer my aerials. A lot, may I add.
Step 5, I sometimes do RARs so I think I'm okay? I don't use any characters with projectiles so I dunno.
Step 6, I personally don't feel B-Reversing is a must but okay. Guess I'll try to do it more.
great video, so professional ! I'm average player, I only play for glory but I play aloot lol, I have more than 10k battle online, my win/rate is only 65 % and I learned alot in this video.
Really great stuff !
The pivot grab is actually dash -> grab -> turnaround
It's a small detail that can help execute the move more easily
Speaking of small details, there's an unfortunate amount of missed information, is there a link or document that has content going deeper into these techniques?
invinsibility is spelled with a c, invincibility
Another great video as always :D
Perfect video for me thanks!
I never knew that there was a name for moves with blocking properties.
The more you know
WELL thank you, I'm impressed by the quality of your advices, I'm also impressed because I already did a thing, the "run-turn and jump"
And also I have a question: I have a original gamecube controller, is there a difference between original controller and special smash controller or I can try to practice with my original one ?
wow.
instant dash attack was harder for me then the first way of doing the Wave-Bounce.
I am completely shocked.
IzawSmash i really like your intro
I personally prefer to use the pro controller when using c-stick aerials.
I've gotten so used to the location of the GCC C-Stick that i can't even comprehend how to use the Pro controller's C-Stick.
Took me a week to get used wasn't really bad
+Kobe Hunter I have the opposite problem.
Idk what the c-stick even is on the pro controller
This video is sponsored by Beefy Smash Doods and My Smash Corner
Seriously, Cloud in The Art of Smash: Expert thumbnail? Like, he's not difficult at all lol
this is just a correction for educated purpose, dont mean to be a dick. Mashing by rotating the stick doesnt work because the game counts that as one input, if you want to mash using the stick you have to leave the stick in neutral position and then push the direction again but you'd might as well mash button by rolling your thumb across them
That's wrong information. Go look it up again.
I think your taking about the c stick
+Gaby Rojas oh shit it is c stick haha my bad
Izaw, I know you're busy making these guides, plus the planned ones for other characters, but since I don't have Amino, I just gotta ask...will you ever make a guide for Wario? He's a character I and many others would love to improve with, but there aren't any really good video guides...
1:04 that seems like melee’s Marth grab
at 2:10 he buffers a move with ike, but in his art of ike video he says "don't buffer aerials."
AAAAAAHHH
im just kidding, he does it just to explain it
I wonder where Perfect Pivoting will be in xD
Is that Link killing Shiek in your intro?
How irresponsible of him! He should be *rescuing* the princess!
it's smash..
Great vids man they really help. subscribed for more content :)
I have a problem...
I live in two houses, so when i'm with my father, I don't have a Wii U, only a 3DS, but the 3ds doesn't have c-stick
You can tilt your shield? How did I never find out about this...
I don't understand the point of jump cancelling out of shield to use attacks when you can just use the attack directly out of shield. I'm getting the same results between when I Shield Dash -> Jump Cancel -> Up-Special and when I just Shield Dash -> Up-Special
Its a bit slower ,when you just u p.
very good guide
I’m honestly a little lost. I didn’t know smash was this intense. I just looked up guides so I stop losing to one of my friends. I’ve been playing smash casually with my friends since I was in middle school. I’m 27 now. Is it too late for me to get Gud?
You havent talked about Tap jump or not having tap jump, Im just watching these for fun but im just saying you need to talk about tap jump pros and cons
a korean ad about smash came on while I was watching this
I wonder. Was an up smash happening when you were already holding up without tapping it, but via pressing jump and attack too quickly, even intended, or is it like how grabs are internally shield + attack and sometimes get turned into attacks during pivots and when crouching?
