This is the most straight to the point video I've ever seen in my life. Your video and simple instructions got me out of one hell of a pickle! I'm so glad I didn't click on another one first because I already know they would have been wasting my time. My hat is off to you good sir. Thank you.

8 yesrs ago and still the best instructional video on awning deployment. Purchased our first trailer camper with an awning and Im 54 years old, could not figure this out without probably breaking it. Watched it 3 times and worked through it. makes perfect sense now, my setup was exactly the same. 2006 jayco jay flight.

Excellent- as I was certain I was not raising mine 100% correct, bought a used horse trailer, with awning- having no instructions or prior experience
I had to figure out with a little trial & error ,
Hadn’t used it but a few times as the fabric was cracking & torn,
Just replaced last week with new awning fabric,
But I had been failing to fully raise the extension arms & lock them out at the top as you did,
I had them at about a 45 degree angle which did little in the way of stability.
Now I know the proper method.👍

Excelente amigo. I had mine come out exactly as you described. But first I needed to get on a ladder at the control end and pulled it free, then the strap fell out where I could see it. I stopped my pulling and went to the strap and Click click and she was down. Then I did your adjustmenrt to be sure the cover is tight then push to the level that suited me and the weather environment and we be done. I just bought the RV and this was the first time I extended it. Any advice on tying the two ends down in case of sudden gusts?

How to survive Wind or Bad weather... I learned the hard way and lost my awning twice in one season at Quartzsite. "Shade Pros" shared a solution. After they repaired my awning, they showed me how to cinch it down with tie down straps (ratchet or cambuckle). Using two on each side to secure each axis, (fwd/back left/right). Not too tight, just enough to snug and restrict movement.
This set up survived major wind events with 50+mph gusts for a whole season. I've seen so many lose their awning to wind, which could creep up like a dust devil or blow 30-50mph gusts on otherwise calm day.
Cinch it down or roll it up. Better safe...

Mine pulls out and makes that same clicking sound. Then after about 4 feet of extending, the awning starts picking up speed and flying down. Think my tension spring needs to be tightened? I think this awning was replaced at one point but I'm not 100% sure.

    • @rebekahsimmers1472

I used greenhouse repair tape. It comes in different colors (I used clear, 4" wide, 10' length), and is less expensive than the RV awning tape sold.
I ordered mine using ebay, free shipping. Its available on Amazon too.
My only suggestion is to be very scrupulous in selecting a product. Not all are UV protected, and the thickness can vary. I was so happy with the tear repair on my new (to me) awning, that I ordered and 'installed' the product along the seams of both awnings, where it attaches to the RV.
      Hope this helps!!
