The English Translators only read the volume edition of Houseki no Kuni so any comments from post Vol 12 (Ch. 99 and onwards) will be deleted to keep them spoiler-free if they want to see the comments you leave. Please be mindful to this and enjoy this interview!

Considering a gem can hit its own body without shattering, I always imagined that they have "tongues" that quickly move in their throats and produce sound.

Hahah yeah this is probably the most accurate way they do. The title itself is just tongue in cheek about translations.

i honestly kind of imagine the inclusions vibrating like biological speakers, especially considering i think gems seem to be able to talk even when they don't have mouths (does any gem even have teeth ?)

This is so awesome! Please give them my love for the nickname didi it warms my soul ever since I heard it. love it especially because dia calls bort “little one.” Translation is in itself an art, glad to see the series in such loving hands.

I do wish they had just translated it as "he" though, as it is what Ichikawa wrote. I caught onto them all saying "kare" and "oniisan" and "boku" in Japanese so I just go with "he" for all the gems. And call them femboy sea rocks for a laugh.

It is interesting how the Lunarians, which have kinda held onto human concepts, start referring to the gems in female terms as well.

This is not a mistranslation though

Yeah might have made things more consistent but not the end of the world since they are rocks at the end of the day.
      Spoilers for Vol 12!: will
It is true a lot of the gems when they came up to the Moon started wearing feminine clothing

It's nice to know the story of the people that that helped bring us some of our favotite manga, much like mangakas, some people forget that there are real human beings that made this and speak of them in a very demoralizing way. Thanks for doing this👍

Couldn't agree more! The way the series is interpreted and experienced in another language is all hinged on their ability to carry the same feelings and messaging to us the readers.

probably a weird question, but do gems have teeth? I can't recall them showing their teeth

This is a really good question and the answer is probably not? They don’t eat and I don’t remember seeing teeth on them.

Honestly I saw the anime with the English title first but I say Houseki no Kuni cause it just rolls off the tongue smooth to me.
