Sweet summer child, all the things you don't know...
open a book and write "content savant will continue read the book by some reason".....

It is really inspired by the cthulhu mythos and scp universe, the novel was an amazing read and gets better as it goes on.
Looking forward to it!
It really is confusing to me I dont even understand the power system I like it very much but its very confusing
@@viosma9589 i am not sure if this a spoiler, but Beyonder can be said as path towards godhood. The end path of a sequence is a god. Low sequence is no different with mortal, middle sequence can be said as extraordinary, the power get buffed a little, but a mortal can still kill you. High sequence is the powerhouse, you have become inhuman literally. The higher the sequence, the higher the madness paranioia.
@@viosma9589 It’s a whole lot easier if you think of the power system as a power system in a video game.
Pathways = jobs/roles/classes
Sequences = levels/ranks
When you level up, you get stronger and get new abilities. Each pathway has something they good at. If you know Pokemon, think of it like evolution lines. Pichu evolves into Pikachu, then Raichu. Pichu can use spark. Pikachu can use spark and thunderbolt, and is stronger than Pichu. Pichu can’t evolve or change into Charmander though because that’s a different evolutionary line.
Pichu’s evolutionary line is the pathway. Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu are the sequences. Pichu’s sequence 9, Pikachu’s sequence 8, Raichu’s sequence 7.
So Sequence 9 Seer to Sequence 8 Clown. Sequence 9 Spectator to Sequence 8 Telepathist. I can’t give more subsequent sequence names without it being spoilery. Just… try and look at it from the lens of DnD/video games.
I always wondered why it was soo acclaimed like its good but i never figured out why it was considered THAT GOOD, but not gonna lie ch 940 around something where the history gets a bit more clear i was just flabbergasted, the build UP was really really good, and i was like okay I get why its soo good and after that part it just went up and up. another place i felt its good story writing was that harbor chapter, really really good writing.
One of the things that make LOTM stand out is that it is very novelish in its approach to story telling as compared to other Chinese webnovels.
Klein has to interact with people, build relationships and keep them, search places, gather resources and information using every opportunity and his Tarot Club which is interesting and gives the side characters more importance where they get to show their own capabilities.
Other webnovels make it easier for protagonists to know things they shouldn't be aware of because of regression, transmigration in game or story they know fully or partially. I am no writer but what Cuttlefish has done with LOTM requires a lot of work which I appreciate.
This might also be why you feel a lack of agency because Klein takes on 'level appropriate' tasks.
Klien starts taking up progressively bigger gambles starting from his arrival at the capital.
I am sure that the more you read the story the more you will like the magic system. The lower level abilities require strategic application which doesn't change even for higher ones all the while making the higher abilities fascinating.
You make a good point about how its a lot lore traditional “novelish”, and that does explain how Klein is an individual who is limited in capabilities initially.
Looking forward to the exciting future!
not gonna lie, the error path is the best example of how good and useful even low sequence are, maybe that's why its "it is what it is" add everything about the sequence here, and you only realize it towards the end because its the first time it explained in detail.
I think you'll find that as you keep reading , the power system becomes a lot more complex and fleshed out as more information is revealed.
The pathways and sequences go far beyond "hurr durr cultivation drink" all the while not breaking any sort of established boundaries or having to remake/ reimagine what is essentially a new power system like other series tend to do whenever they wish to expand upon their power system.
Without spoiling anything, i'll say that as you ascend the sequences the drinking of a potion itself ends up becoming merely a part of the process in your progress and not the end all be all.
I just finished the very end of LotM yesterday and I cannot recommend it enough. You're very right when you say that even Klein's everyday dialog is interesting and that he's a likable character. Around chapter 60 was when the story started to click for me and it was around chapter 100 that I knew it was special.
Stick through it man, I hope you have as much fun with it as I did. LotM has given RI a run for its money in my lists, granted I'm not finished with RI yet but we'll have to see where it lands for you.
Wow… I can’t believe LOTM being better than RI, but I will have faith.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on RI once you finish. We can exchange opinions then.
@@ContentSavant Both RI and LoTM are very highly regarded
Many fans prefers one over the other
But most of them agrees that
The comparaison is pretty even
With one being just slightly better than the other
.
In the end of the day it simply depends on what you really prefer in a story
in regard of pros to cons of each one!
RI?
@@unzoivazaki3349 Reverend Insanity
@@M-yue882 if reverend insanity had a real ending then it would be better, but it is still hard to compare because they are different genres basically.
Oh man, you gotta keep going. It's kind of funny; listening to this I remember how the first time I read through volume 1 I found it a bit slow, but after reading through the whole novel I reread the beginning and absolutely loved every moment.
Yeah I've read this like four times now and each time it's a good read.
A lot of Chinese webnovels tend to be unrealistic in terms of characters and human behaviour but this one is anything but.
The sequence thing will start to make sense later on but you have to distinguish this novel from the cultivation xian/xia novels since I think the main character getting stronger is more of a byproduct of the story rather than the objective of the story.
I also love how much research the author did in his world building, that world being based on Victorian Britain. He really researched for example what the peasant life was like, how much bread and wine costs, the social norms for middle-class and nobility during that era, he even read studies on the percentage of women that have done sex work, like these things just make a fictitious universe feel so much more complete.
Give this one a chance, it's only slow paced because it takes time to construct a whole world.
omg i cannot wait till you finish the first volume and let us know your thoughts. having completed the entire book, i almost forgot how green Klein was back in the days, ah those were the good precious times.
I'd love more of your gradual impressions of the novel, it made it feel like me reading the book for the first time as well, and you can only read the book for the first time once, so I appreciate your reaction.
I'm telling you, you will like the potion system eventually. It has so many secrets and so many layers. It's mind-blowing. It definately takes a little getting use to, because your preference is pretty typical "xianxia" system, i'd say. But this potion system is what makes the fight scene at higher sequences so creative and beyond imagination.
I'm looking forward to it! Where I'm at, Klein finally became a clown. RIP Old Neil.
@@ContentSavant Rip old Neil. 😢
The novel strongest point in my opinion is it’s amazing world building. It build up interest in each arc and the more mystery unveil the more the past arc gets better. Also the potion aspect get really dangerous stakes later on and it’s takes a lot more to obtain it making it a lot more satisfying.
Also the first arc is probably the slowest and after this arc things speed up. Things get very different after first arc(if you haven’t finished it yet) and consider it as the tutorial
Ok! I will keep going!
@@ContentSavant also I think after arc 2 is the best place to give an update review if you plan on doing one as it’s close to a lot of questions and answers. Beside Kleins get pretty cool after that :). If you want more badass protagonist you’ll get it in this novel too, and it’s even in the earlier arc!
You'll be genuinely surprised with this one. You're just getting started, it is one heck of an addicting ride.
at first i got into light novels for the xianxia as well and funnily enough i had the exact same thoughts when i first read LOTM i thought less of the powers since they where more like getting a body modification and there was no hard work or effort involved, however, i am quite happy to say i was proven wrong after klein gets stronger and now LOTM is my favourite piece of fiction.
I really love these types of videos. Hope you keep updating us in future. Subbed
Just waiting till I finish book 1. It's coming.
As a heads up,the potions only get fascinating once you reach the high sequences since the powers that are given at those levels are bizzare.I will give an example if you want spoilers:
[SPOILERS]
Higher sequences of The Fool Pathway(Klein’s),allows them to create countless miracles, turn their marionettes into another copy of themselves, bring things (including themselves) from the past to the present, create a mysterious environment that's full of tampering and concealment, and are able to fool all sorts of things. They can manipulate history, fate, and time at their highest sequence making moments last longer than it seems or hide in gaps in the historical gray void and graft abstract concepts, locations and physical objects together.
Hahah! That’s more like it! I can’t wait till I get to the more absurd power levels.
He read the spoilers :( sad times
@@Zarek-fl5io well even spoiler still cannot tell how unique each path using their own power
@@Zarek-fl5io it would have been better if they explained a different high squence that is not integral to the story. idk which one but some other. not the fool, visionary, error at least (which unironically are the best example of the bizarre powers)
@@ContentSavant The power levels are definetely absurd, and because klein basically made a speedrun through the high sequences, the changes and jumps in power happen a lot more frequently to the point where it fells like it was very rushed. But it was amazing nontheless.
I really struggled with picking the right game for gameplay footage for this one, but in the end settled with Yakuza 0
The first part is over so a new review is necesary. By the Fool, what an amazing light novel, it's the first light novel that makes me want a live action adaptation
Also, one last thing. Yes, Klein does begin progressing due to his own actions and not others soon enough.
Honestly the novel only really picks up when Klein becomes German sparrow
As the novel goes on, the strength and determination to grow with potions becomes more important
Lover the power system it’s so complex yet also simple
I like potions cause it keeps humans as humans. They're merely borrowing power and the law of converge state that what converges would also diverge. So, they're not entirely immortal beings. Even CW and God Almighty disappeared from the world. A loophole is that their mental imprints still exist on the beyonder characteristics
Interested in hearing your thost when you finish the first city's arc.
Im not gonna lie when i saw the thumbnail i thought this was gonna be a bunch of voice impressions. Fair point throughout though, without saying any spoilers there are things kinda in the background of the nighthawk missions but they kinda are only notable once you finish book 1
Got it
@@ContentSavant something to add is also that there is tons of foreshadowing that happens without you ever noticing. in the future youll think back and go wait a moment I knew that
@@tekbox7909 looking forward to experiencing more of it!
Please do an updated review when you finish the novel, hype for book 2. Edit: oh hey you'll fit right in to the savant pathaway lmao
I've been gathering my thoughts so far, especially for pros and cons.
To give you a preview for whenever I do make a formal review it will center around this:
I don't find LOTM especially thrilling or exciting, especially not after reading RI, but despite this, it has so many qualities, especially in character writing, pacing, and realistic detail that despite not being especially thrilling, it still compels me to read it every day.
@@ContentSavant Well I haven't tried RI(Is it Reverend Insanity?) yet. LoM although as you say not that exciting, it really uses "mystery" so well that in my opinion it is one of the novels with top tier world building, hope to see your formal review soon.
@@Axlken214 Yes, Reverend Insanity. It is incredibly thrilling, and I respect the author for stressing his ideals to the point of his ban.
hey man, just wondering if you read any further in the novel? It's been a little over a year, maybe you've dropped it, finished it, put it on hold, I'm not sure. I liked your honest opinion, and though I may not agree on specific things (The potion system), it's clear that you gave a fair and unbiased opinion. Keep up the great content.
While i'm currently reading renegade immortal, i asbolutely love the setting of lord of the mysteries. I love eldritch and hp lover craft-ish settings. This is that, but pseudo cultivation novel as well.
I hope to see INSANE powers in the near future
@@ContentSavant same. Some real mind bending eldritch powers.
I love Renegade Immortal
Im gonna re-read it soon
along Reverend Insanity
'There is no all-powerful Beyonder power, only powerful Beyonders'
when u get the reference..
Its been a while since you uploaded this video. So how do you like it compared to RI?
What chapter are you now?
Slowly but surely it gets hella wild
the pacing picks up by the end of every volume
The first 150ish chapters are pretty slow but it quickly picks up paste afterwards
It gets better later!
so have you finished reading, i would to hear more of your viewpoint on this amazing cool story
would love to see your thoughts after u finshed the first volume...
dude, you need to finish this novel
Working on it, I hope for it to be the second web novel I ever finish!
emperor rosselle is gonna be like elon musk in industrial age
Nice video!
Thanks weeb!
I had stop reading it at 500s when it was releasing. Also i liked the potion aspect cus it was something fresh (well not that new).
If you can wait, LoTM 2 will begin to be released at 2023
@@McSeal ty 4 d info
@@McSeal wait wdym? Isnt the novel finished? Sorry im only in the beggining
@@okojus7353 Only the first part is finished. LotM is a trilogy (iirc) and part 2 will be released next year in march (klein’s birthday).
Do another review when you finish
Bro, you will eventually find potions system and overall that kind of fighting system to be the best. I've read and seen so many stories about increasing your power through internal strength and training that it makes me completely sick. It's all big bs, cause powerscaling will at some point reach top and you gotta add another character that is several-fold stronger than any we've seen before, this will continue to infinity like in Dragon ball Z and Naruto. You have to invent more powerful enemies so as to make story not boring. Cliche troupe and makes writing seem lazy. On the other hand in LotM it's about battle of wits, craftiness and quick thinking. You never know who will win, everything is mysterious and bizarre, low sequence might end up killing several mid sequencers (like klein did). It's a breath of fresh air for me
This guy has read riverend insanity, same with me.
It's really hard to get into other novels for a short while after that(has a proper power system with a limit at top, there is mostly scheming and mc is just downright self-lover)
Lotm have 2 new/bonus chapter on webnovel
Shit gets batshit crazy later on yo
Although I never really saw it, its considered slow pace start
Will you ever give it a shot?
@@ContentSavant nono, I never saw it as such a slow pace start.
@@McSeal Aah. Yeah, I can see it being dependent if you’re used to webnovels or not.
It picks up quickly compared to more classical web novels, but I can tell we’re still on the “going up” part of the roller coaster.
@@ContentSavant indeed, compared to the rest of the novel, the start can only be a warm up.
Klein lampooning is a part of him lol
When you finished LOTM
🧐🧐🧐 This will scare you
Amen to that 🧐
🧐
my thoughts are mixed cus i read 500 chapters and enjoyed some parts, but the potions were really underwhelming, also the acting method made it really hard to read at times (the alias he uses are just plain terrible too) , also most actions that were risky seemed to have no consequences. tbf though i read this novel right after catching up to reverend insanity so i may have been a lil too critical in my criticisms
Perhaps RI has also tainted my perception on other novels… but it can’t be helped if RI really is that good.
@@ContentSavant i feel like Reverend Insanity is very… cruel. i understand WHY, but i think we should appreciate the darkness and empathy in lotm. light is more beautiful in contrast to darkness. compared to ri having intelligent mc, lotm has an mc who makes mistakes, is calculating to a normal degree, and empathetic to those who he can save. people always think things are cringe these days, but i think being a little cringe is fine. the entire reason people think things are cringe are because they think its over the top, but klein isnt even that flambouyant?? ALSO, you may think that the potion system does not have internal character strength, but the development paired with acting is interesting and heartbreaking. painfully heartbreaking.
Humans are not borrowing powers from the supernatural with potions and you might know what I mean if you have read further.
Seeing that you gave up on the audiobook is sad
I wanted to keep going but I got a second job and it's taking up a lot of my time x) I want to finish one day.
After 4 months, what are your impressions?
Pros: Really good pacing and character writing, as well as a believable and living world with relevant history and historical figures.
Cons: interesting is not necessarily exciting. It’s a great, high quality way to pass time, but I rarely find myself YEARNING to open my phone and read the next chapter.
i have read the novel 2x. start to end. wouldnt recommend (i am only alive because im waiting for the book 2 in 2023)
wait wait u need to read more.. wait till like 300 plus
Mr error 🧐 Klein 😱. Hahaha 🤣
