Vlad was classically trained as a pianist. A band he was playing guitar for prior to Jinjer hit a snag when they couldn't find a drummer so Vlad taught himself so he could drum for that band and they found a new guitarist. He didn't learn to drum for Jinjer but we can all be thankful he picked up the sticks and found his way to THIS band!

The band usually record all the music first, then pass it to Tatiana. She then writes the lyrics in Russian and translates them to English. Its worth watching her teatime interview with the charismatic voice.

    • @JariJuslin
      @JariJuslin Рік тому +3

I understand she does both, sometimes writes directly in English, sometimes translates. But this results often in language that's not very typical for songs written in English all the way, which fits a band that's unconventional in every way.

Vlad was a pianist. You can see videos of him playing. Then he learned guitar and was in a band as their guitarist, but they couldn't find a drumme, so he picked up the sticks. He became so good that Jinjer recruited him.

The song is telling you to not believe everything that you are told, or have been raised to believe in. It's about Catholic school, with nuns and corporal punishment. But, the teachers are just doing what they've been told and what they believe. Teachers can be misled too.
Yeah, the mix in other genres into metal, hip hop in this one, jazz, and even reggae. Try Tatiana's vocal one take of Judgement (and Punishment) for reggae. Home Back is about the fighting in their native Ukraine in 2014, or Vortex from the most recent album.

Welcome back to Jinjer. Good analysis. Jinjer has so many good songs to recommend. They do, however, shine in their live performances. I recommend, "PIT OF CONSCIOUSNESS" LIVE in KIEV, "Who is Gonna be the One" (live, Napalm Records) or "Captain Clock" live at Resurrection Fest for a follow up reaction.

The fact that Teacher, Teacher is not in my top 5 Jinjer sings just shows how awesome their catalog is. Jinjer was a 5 piece band up through Cloud Factory playing. My top 5 are: Outlander, Cloud Factory, No Hoard of Value, Retrospection and Home Back. Of course all are highly recommended.

Well, there's an official Jinjer video bass playthrough and they way they annotated it was basically the whole song was in 4/4 time, but they played almost the whole thing in triplets. Seems like it'd been easier to just annotate it in 6/8 time, but, that's what they did.

Vlad was actually a guitarist before he picked up the drums. That was in one of his former bands though - they needed a drummer, so he studied some drummers that he liked and taught himself. He is a classically trained pianist too though.

IMO this is the most Jinjer of all Jinjer songs. Crazy time signatures that change constantly, amazingly poetic lyrics, 4 or 5 different vocal profiles, grooves, blasts, Djent, hardcore, just has it all. Hands down my favorite Jinjer song.

The other thing you'll not get from Jinjer is solos. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some solos (see Lovebites). But their band is truly a 4-piece collaboration. The layering, the timing, the lyrics, and the djenty heaviness is second to none. As someone who has (literally) had to pick strands of Tatiana's hair from my cell phone (really), I have to say this is the most dynamic, interesting and virtuosic (is that a word?) band I've ever heard and seen. There is no bad song. But, I would like to see you do their official video of "Vortex" - it literally has 5 verses (no chorus) - played twice each. It's a master class in how to structure a song without having any one player outshine any other.

She Said in a teatime interview with Charismatic Voice, that making The lyrics is becoming extremely hard, as The pieces they compose are so difficult and all over the place (and More and More so as Time goes by). 😅 And they just say: it's not hard, you just count 😂

Seriously, this band is the most amazing discovery in 15 yrs for me.
There is yet a Jinjer song to come that disappoints me. And I follow them since very early. I am still thankful to the woman that recommended them to me for the first time.
Pick ANY song and you find something new or amazing.

  • @barefootalien
    @barefootalien Рік тому

So Jinjer used to be a four-piece. When the previous lead guitarist left the band, the other three decided the vibe was better with just the three of them. Then Vlad joined, and the vibe got even better.
However, since they still played their old stuff, they used pro-tools to pipe in the second guitar parts, along with doubled vocals. Since they're using backing tracks anyway, they still compose with extra parts. That's what that rhythmic picking guitar part was at the beginning of the slow section. In Pisces, there's a background in the softer sections that sounds like a Hammond organ, and that's also Roman on a second guitar track.
That said, in most of the heavy parts, they just play as a three-piece, and absolutely fill out the soundscape.

I have been fortunate enough to see them live for a couple of times now. They never disappoint and this is one of my favorite song by them.
A question for you guys as musicians (I'm just an enthusiastic consumer of music): In my mind, I've been making a distinction between a bassist, and a bass guitarist. By that I mean someone who 'just' plays the rhythm compared to players like Jinjer's Eugene or Band Maid's Misa.
Does that make any sense, or am I doing bassists dirty by thinking that?
Oh, almost forgot: Unlucky Morpheus - Cadaver Revadac. 😁

The song is about being against authoritarians and know-it-alls.
You should delve into some older Jinjer when they had a different drummer and 2 guitarists to see how they filled space and how they have matured musically since. One suggestion would be Outlander live, and another would be Scissors OMV. You will see some consistencies like the double bass use in drumming, timing changes, etc as all these songs that you have reacted to so far were wrote by Roman with lyrics by Tatiana. It isn't til Macro that some songs were written by someone else, and Wallflower album was almost all by Vlad.

  • @TaverenTech

Its about Tatiana's experience in Catholic school and the "abuse" from the Nuns.
The weird sound at the end was Eugene, strumming hard cord on the G string.
Vlad, the drummer, was classically & jazz trained, so his style of playing drums is very Jazz influenced.

  • @barefootalien

This song is a lot like Meshuggah, in that the timing is deceptively simple. It's actually straight 4/4 almost all the way through, with a couple of extra beats in the pauses between sections. However, it has a lot of poly rhythms weaving around and through it, and the way things are accented makes it _sound_ like it's more complex.
At the same time, though, the consistent 4/4 pulse means that unlike something like Dream Theater or Opeth, it's head-bangable and danceable.

Vlad (drums) is a classically trained pianist. In fact, he's the only one in the band with any kind of formal training. But it's not true that he didn't play drums before Jinjer. He was a guitarist in his previous group, and he made the transition to drums in that group, and was a drummer prior to joining jinjer. But he is a beast of a drummer. Also note that he is a right handed drummer that plays open handed...that is that he does not cross to play the more complex high hat patterns with his dominant hand. He is a VERY technical drummer, and the ambidexterity of a pianist shows through, especially on songs like this one.
Also, there is a cool video of Vlad playing Rachmaninov...ua-cam.com/video/HHdTmPDR9Z0/v-deo.html

    They are indeed a treat.
Couple of suggestions, as you like to hear neat drumming:
Nightwish songs Weak Fantasy and Shoemaker showcase some pretty damn impressive drum work. For Weak Fantasy, live in Tampere or Wembley. For Shoemaker either official lyric video or maybe live in Hellfest. AND remember to learn what the Shoemaker is about before heading in. It's a tribute to Eugene Shoemaker, a planetary scientist, and you are not enjoy the song properly without knowing anything about him.
Another piece of fine drumming (and fine pretty much everything) is Wintersun: Sons of Winter and Stars, live session at Sonic Pump studios. Two people in that session are now in Nightwish, Kai (drums) and Jukka (bass). When Jukka the drummer had to drop from Nightwish due to health reasons he handpicked Kai to replace him.
