They were both lucky since 5 of the normal top 6 were removed from contention. If that’s not luck I don’t know what is. I must say credit for being around to take advantage of the confusion. But it’s still a good chunk of luck for them. Grats to both sainz and gasly

@Henrique Santos de Freitas its a Honda technology where the engine changes its valve timing at high engine rpm. Basically allows more fuel and air into the engine, causing a sudden surge of power when vtec kicks in. It is considered a joke in street racing because you need to rev the engine first before getting any actual power and its not easy to rev near red line in the streets. Its a different story when its on a racetrack though.
Now this, this was a comment worth reading.
@@jazmihamizan4987 VTEC isn't valve timing, it's the size of the camshaft. The camshaft has two size profiles, at low revs, the smaller camshaft profile is used, and at higher revs, oil pressure causes a "lock" in the camshaft to essentially use the larger camshaft profile allowing more fuel and air into the combustion.

4:16 This was probably the best moment of the entire 2019 F1 season. At the same time Verstappen was overtaking Hamilton on the outside into turn 1, Albon was doing the same thing with Vettel. Incredible move from both drivers battling for p1 and p3, true wheel to wheel action.

@paco_lord87 Yes it does, damage to the front wing creates asymmetrical aerodynamics impacting the way the tires and the car lean, creating uneven distribution on the tires and decreasing its top speed. Also if you come out of a corner slower because of your lack of downforce your corner exit speed is lower and your overall top speed decreases because you can't reach peak top speed sooner as if you didn't have damage.

Definitely the best race that season offered us

- An engine retirement from Mercedes
- Contact between the Ferrari's
- Gasly in a Toro Rosso miraculously snatching and holding onto second down to the line
- Lewis getting a 5-second time penalty after the race
- Sainz getting on the podium in a McLaren
-And, most of all, Verstappen winning what I assume is one of his all-time best races.

@@bernardofernandes1826 Right but that was the harder strategy or more cars would have done the same. every other car thought that the new tires were a better strategy than staying out and having track position on old mediums. Appart from carlos, grosjean and hamilton. Sainz was the only car out of those to not lose positions to the cars on the faster tires and was rewarded for it, which he deserved. If anything the safety car played into the hands of those who pit as they lost no time and had a massive tyre delta.
Two RBR cars pulling the same move on Mercedes of Hamilton and Ferrari of Vettel on the safety car restart was a joy to watch. Often mocked and unfairly painted as villains, they have made their place among the behemoths of the game with their fierce competetiveness, and upright professionalism.
