Nice breakdown Erek, after watching this, it really makes me wanna jump into my Switch copy of the game. The original Grandia feels right up my alley, so I'm keen for that one!
Grandia is so great!!! I have this collection on the Switch and I’ve only played the first one so far! Can’t wait to check out the second one. Great video!
The first game is also available as a simple upscaled port on the PlayStation Store and I personally much prefer that version. It's also free for PlayStation Plus members and for whoever purchased the PS3 version of the game.
I remember playing Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2 back to back on my Dreamcast. I've never played the first game so this collection, imo is a steal for $40. My only gripe is the smooth sprites....
The PS2 version of Grandia 2 is surprisingly cheap, you can easily find it for a third of the price of the rerelease. Of course if someone doesn't have a PS2 that's a different story but u can buy PS2s for next to nothing on the second hand market. The first Grandia game can be bought digitally on the PS3 online store, that's how I played it. I really dislike what they did to the graphics on the rerelease, it looks liked they smeared Vaseline all over the screen, I like my pixels sharp and crisp!
Ive always hoped for the Grandia series to continue developing or the system to get revisited. Always enjoyed the Grandia series for the combat, making every encounter always slightly different from the last, even if they were the same enemies or a replayed boss battle.
I think it's worth, I've been waiting for this since it was first announced. As a huge fan and a trophy hunter, looking forward to getting the Platinums
It's nice that they made the HD Collection with grandia 1 and 2, and I think it's worth it to buy it, but it would be better if they made it also with grandia 3 and grandia Xtreme. Those two games also deserved it to get an HD Remaster.
In terms of Music the battle themes in g2 dud not loop right. The battle themes fade out an starts from the start after a littke moment of silence. Which is a real mood killer during boss Fights. So keep in lkbs that if you could play any othee version you should go for that one instead.
I'm disappointed that you seem to LIKE the "upgraded" visuals of the original game, or that you're even calling it that. They're not upgraded at all, actually. They're ruined. The sprites are absolutely destroyed, they're artificially smoothed over and smeary and very ugly. Same with all the textures, too, they've been completely vaseline'd over with his TERRIBLE smear filter, and all of the pixellated charm of the 3D textures AND all the sprites have been eradicated. Grandia 1 looks absolutely ugly, and it's why I still emulate the game and have refused to buy this collection for taking the game on PS1 I loved and visually barfing over the whole thing. It's especially disappointing to me that you're not communicating or educating your audience at all how BAD they look in comparison to the original version of the game.
Well i could not care less since thats cleary a Personal preference but his Focus was cleary something different. Overall it is not a great Remaster but is still able to Entchen people. Also graphics were nerver selling point for this games. The Look already at th time outdatet. Look at ff7 or Vagrant Story, both ps1 games which had a far better style and graphics. Or FF10 and grandia 2 it is even worse. The looks still works evgn if it is not the best by your point of view.
@@novatarzone113considering it's essentially a xBRZ filter that they've used at least give us the option to disable it.. also they've only done that because they couldn't be bothered to redrawn the sprite's and 2D assets at higher resolution and don't get me started on the whole "we're taking the best parts of the original sega Saturn version with ps1 port to make a definitive version." lol not really here's the ps1 version with a BRZ filter and wide screen which you could get the same outcome using Duckstation
@@novatarzone113also you've clearly never seen the Saturn original if you think the graphics look "dated" when the game was ported to the ps1 it had to have a lot to cutbacks due to the difference in architecture between the two Just look at palm on the Saturn the roads are correct and there's shadows under doorways on the ps1 the roads are just a repeating pattern and there's no shadows

I think you’d love it!
Grandia is so great!!! I have this collection on the Switch and I’ve only played the first one so far! Can’t wait to check out the second one. Great video!
The second one comes highly recommend!!
In all honesty having a more light hearted and more serious jrpg in one package sounds pretty nifty!
It’s great! These two great games together for $40 is a steal!
Thank you for checking out the Collection!
The pleasure is all mine! Thank you so much for making this available for everyone! And thanks again for the review code ❤️
Why not have an option for the only gripe people have for the visuals?

There truly isn't a jrpg like Grandia 2. Nothing like it before or since.
Honestly I really do agree with this. Such a great adventure!
This is my reminder that I need to finish these games. I love the cartoon feel of it! ❤
Definitely finish them! The ending of grandia 1 was awesome. Still digging into #2 at the moment but excited to see how that wraps up!
Grandia 2 Is one of my favourite RPGs of all time.
Couldn't agree more!

It’s funny because the smooth sprites look nice to a point but the original stuff just looks great and holds up well!
Since I never did get a chance to play these in their day - I did purchase it so I can play them.

I have the limited run switch version and it's pretty good. They did a good job with this classic
Totally agree!! Such a great collection!
@@ErekLadd the only gripe I got is that grandia 1 doesn't have a hard mode like grandia 2

This is why I said they’re not the definitive version as I prefer the originals and recommended only to new players and not diehard fans 🤷🏻♂️
What? it doesn't look like that at all.
