I can't believe how you glossed over (5:37) the most glaring problem working remotely with a team on a set of Indesign files - the fact that when one person opens a file it doesn't get locked. Therefore 1) nobody else in the team knows the file is open by someone else, and 2) If a second person opens the same file you wind up with duplicate, conflicted copies. No. This is not a minor inconvenience. This is a HUGE problem and it's UNFATHOMABLE that Adobe has not developed a solution. Our only workaround has been to create a "checkoff sheet" in Google Sheets (huge hassle) but we STILL run into problems because there's no way of knowing when particular files have fully synced. This regularly wreaks havoc on our workflow, at best slowing us down significantly, at worse stopping us in our tracks to figure out which file is most up to date.
Hey Matthew ! thanks for sharing. I have one indesign document with multiple pages, from what I see I would have to split each page of my indesign document into individual documents in order to work this way ?
Yes you would have to extract the pages or manually resave if you wanted it in 2 page spreads. Its costs money but I use this script called extract pages to do this. www.id-extras.com/products/extract-pages/ Its a safe site and I actually worked with the owner once who made me a script for Indesign. There is a free scipt but it extracts as single pages which I dont use. kasyan.ho.ua/indesign/all/extractpages.html Kasyan is like the world leader in free scripts have used other of his scripts like "save and close all open documents" pretty much everyday!
Hi Matthew! I have followed your steps and created a drive for my publication. I have also shared it with my colleagues who need to work on it. I am confused on the next step. How do I get them to be able to access the folder from Bridge? Thanks so much! Edit: I think I understand now- Do they just upload their pages onto the shared drive?
Hey EmaLee sorry for the delayed response. Yes you save your pages on the shared folder but you also need to have your pictures/links saved in that same folder if you want everyone to see the same thing when opening the ID files.
