Anyways, this was such a fun, informative Sonic history vid.
Iizuka has long said that games will discard and retcon depending on writer or what fits a particular game's universe. Classic Sonic may be from another timeline if another game/writer says so. Thats also how Iizuka explained Sonic and Blaze not remembering each other in Sonic 06 after Sonic Rush. Sonic Frontiers is from a period where games are linked, but the possibility exists of another game retconning that again. Sonic Forces is still a game where Sonic "verbally" stated Classic is from another dimension. Frontiers has a different writer and Sega will probably add more contradictions in the future. After all, how else can we explain Eggman's change from goofy to serious. Different writers doing different takes
@@Mario_GamerZ Forces is still canon, yes, but the idea that Classic Sonic is from another dimension has been abandoned by SEGA. Classic Sonic is Sonic from the past again.
Gee, somehow it had never occurred to me that Breeze is very blatantly just Benny The Cab from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Then again, I've never played Sonic Drift or its sequel... Great video! Always nice to see these obscure characters get acknowledged!
Upon reading the title i thought the video was going to be about how Classic Amy's nose is long like Sonic's but Modern Amy's nose is short like Tails lmao
The Cyclone is not based on the F40… but the 1993-2002 Chevrolet Camaro and the Whirlwind is based on the old Lotus 7. In Sonic Drift 2 the Blue Devil is clearly based on the Batman Forever Batmobile.
So we see a mechanism to turn living things into machines in Sonic, so its my head cannon that breese was a forrest critter that wanted to be a car, so Sonic and his friends used Eggmans tech to make him a car without wiping his mind. He's got a heart, still inside there, he's fine and can change back at anytime
This may be biased, as I'm a big fan of sentient objects/machines, but I kinda wish they leaned more into sentient cars with Sonic Drift! Yes, this would've made Breeze less special, but I think giving each car a personality that contrasted or complimented their driver would've been really cool! This could've been explained as Robotnik trying to sabotage the vehicles by installing AI that serves his wishes, but instead they gained sentience and rebelled (besides his Egg Mobile, which could be the only non-sentient one or have a AI as well). BTW, anyone else curious to see what a modern Breeze would look like? I'd imagine he'd look kinda like Sonic's Speed Star from TSR.
Okay, hear me out. Sonic. Was originally going to have a human love interest. This was scrapped in favor for Amy. But Amy . . . has a sentient, toon car, in the style of vintage cars. And Knuckles is a lawful good but brutish and even fumbling character that begrudgingly works with the spaztic hyperactive hijinks of Sonic, AND . . . he gets a cool hat in the OVA film. Fuckin' Who Framed Roger Rabbit baby!!!
"What if Breeze has a cold twisted heart" I will not allow this slander, Breeze is my friend and a gentleman & a scholar (jk) Joking aside, this was a fun little rundown on Breeze! I've always genuinely liked him as a cute little friend to Amy
🚗🏎 Splendid little insight about Amy's vehicles! Comfy little watch and quite informative! Thank you Johnny Vector!✨ The "pink bar of soap" as you said reminds me a lot of MKWii's Wild Wing (Medium Kart), the chunky design with smooth surface is more aesthetic than skill/speed🏁 As for the "girlie" varnish, maybe because Amy likes to stand out from Monster Trucks and Corvettes?
He is not relegated to the "Classic Universe", such a concept and the corresponding "Modern Universe" is a misconception that simply does not exist. Many, many, many, many offical sources like Tailstube have clarified that that the Classic Era is just the past where the cast was younger. Also IDW is canon to the games and so is not a sperate continuity.
@@Mario_GamerZ Again there is no separate universe and this is a further misunderstanding of what he meant, just like how people thought he meant the two worlds literally, when he was talking about two cultures. Mighty and Ray still exist but are not allowed to older designs yet due to marketing. Trip is in the same boat, which is why Sonic and friends are allowed to still mention all 3 in Remember When and say that they are meeting up with a older Trip later but you don't see Trip in "Remember When?".
Benny the cab was a reference to Herbie lol. This video saying that Breeze is a Benny reference, rather than a Herbie reference, is like saying that a yellow martial arts jumpsuit is a Kill Bill reference rather than a Bruce Lee one.
My head-cannon is that Tails designed and built all the vehicles for (at the very least) Sonic and his other friends in the Drift series. Tails and Sonic are both capable pilots, and capable drivers by proxy, but Amy being so young and most likely incapable of driving, Tails built a car that could basically drive itself. By Sonic R, Amy could drive somewhat, so she used an actual car.
Amy being a car collector would be an interesting thing to make canon to her character [way better than the fucking cards shit they've replaced her personality with 💀] Yuji Naka has always been into sports cars, and that's part of what inspired Sonic's speed. Amy's usually been shown to be slower than Sonic, so as a Sonic fangirl it would make sense she would want to experience that speed and try to keep up to him, slowly becoming a car geek in the process. They could even still do the "girlboss" shit by having her work on her own cars with some help from Tails.
The weirdest thing is that she even needs a car at all in Sonic R. She's one of the few people in their world relatively capable of keeping pace with Sonic on foot and for some reason she's in a car in the only racing game that allows characters to be on foot?
I always found it interesting what SEGA Japan was trying to make Sonic Mainstays before the Saturn and Dreamcast completely stomped that out from 1997-1999 No Fang, No Breeze. Heroes tried to bring back some of that with the bright colorful stages that slowly got a little darker along with Metal Sonic and Rebooted Chaotix before that gradually dissapeared by 06 (besides Metal but he does not matter anymore) I never thought you'd make me interested in Japanese Classic Amy
My uncle used to drive an Egg Typhoon around in the 70s. Total babe magnet, it was. Literally. It literally drew the metal on women's clothing towards it as part of one of my uncle's many diabolical schemes.
I recently also went down the rabbit hole of sonic vehicles and was struck by how many Amy had. Her IDW car is a good compromise between the different designs imo. Its modern with some girly style and keeps that bubbly look, plus eye like headlights which always points back to Breeze.
The IDW one is the one she uses in Sonic And All-Stars Racing Transformed. It can turn into a hovercraft on water and a turbofan drone-type thin in the air.
Although I personally do like her car from TSR, especially when I put on different modifications to make it look like an all-terrain jeep, I will admit it is the least interesting of the designs. One of them is a talking car, one of them can hover over water, one of them can turn into a jet and a plane,… and then the one from TSR is literally just a semi modern car. At least you get the option to customize it I suppose
Oh, you mean the fact that Amy has a car with eyes and a mouth that may be alive. Yeah, that was a thing. 0:04 - I was actually quite a fan of Sonic Drift 2. Never played the original game though. 0:28 - I feel Sonic and Co in cars makes sense from a balancing perspective, especially when it comes to crossover games like Sega All-Stars. It's funny you bring up Mario Kart, as whilst it was the first, one could argue that Mario without a jumping aspect feels a tad generic as well. Admittedly, Super Mario Kart did have jumping, but they proceeded to tone it down as the games went on. 2:04 - Funny how we're talking about the world of sentient animal humanoids strong enough to smash through metal and run super fast but the living car is the odd one. I suppose it's like how Eggman, as the one human for a long time, rather sticks out. 3:40 - I mean, Breeze does have a very fleshy tongue there. He is potentially organic on the inside. 4:43 - My memory is playing tricks on me; I always remembered Amy driving Breeze in Sonic R as well. 6:46 - Honestly, I think that was the intention. Pink to the extreme. 7:15 - Agreed, Breeze does have the most character, helped by literally being a character. Although, if they wanted to have Amy avoid the allegations of being assisted in her races, perhaps Breeze could just be his own separate character in future racing games. 8:44 - To be fair, this surprising Amy element continued in some of the post-classic era with stuff like Amy being able to freeze time in Sonic Adventure 2 or turn invisible in Sonic 2006.
When playing as Amy in TSR, I have the car with a paint job closely resembling Breeze, so at least the "bar of soap" has a bit more personality. Breeze is such a silly, goofy idea. It's wacky whenever Sonic takes inspiration from Western animation, especially when tapping into the cartoonier side of things.
I reckon Breeze was a victim of Eggman's experiments. He found a friend in Amy but ultimately she wanted a car to drive herself, so she got the red "corvette". Breeze should be brought back as a driverless playable character in more games imho. Tails could do some mods too.
Between this sentient car, and the scrapped ideas from Sonic 1's concept art, specifically Sonic's human girlfriend Madonna and the rabbit design they had, I can imagine an alternate universe where Sonic was originally a video game adaptation of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Sega typically ignores obscure Sonic characters and media. It's usually fans that bring it back like Sonic Mania bringing back Mighty and Ray the Squirrel.
I honestly like her Sonic R vehicle best as it goes well colour wise. As charming as Breeze is, there's far too much colour clash going on, Amy already has pretty bright pink, green, red and orange.
To be fair that version of Amy is 8 years old so she wouldn’t be able to drive anyway. It’s even weirder how the Classic version of Tails is around four years old and he flies a friggin plane.
Bit of a stretch, but with Blaze being compared as an alternate Sonic, Breeze might be sideline so we don't have fans calling him Car-Sonic. That paint job is just telling. That, or we may also be looking at a "good-Metal Sonic" too, could go either way.
A Monster Truck actually feels like such an obvious choice to give Amy Rose. It's like... the giant piko hammer of cars. I'm shocked they haven't used that for her yet. Imagine a big Monster Truck with the eyelash headlights and other cute accessories
Y'know, it makes sense Amy of all people would have a sentient car. She's incredibly empathetic and thoughtful of others, so perhaps Breeze is just doing what she would anyway Might even be a combination of good understanding and a psychic link, and her tarot knowledge only being unusual for a little girl is a fun bit of culture shock apparently
Well Amy seems to have hidden magical powers so might be why, she probably made the car alive. In Sonic Superstars her music theme in her level kind of hints her magical abilities, though kind of easy to not notice. If you look at the games even the 3D games she seems to have magical powers but it is very subtle and easy to miss. That or can be over looked as gameplay mechanics.
Breeze could also be a Badnik, so there might be an animal still trapped inside!!!
But did you notice Sonic's car also looks like one of his trainers?

Sonic Frontiers is from a period where games are linked, but the possibility exists of another game retconning that again.
Sonic Forces is still a game where Sonic "verbally" stated Classic is from another dimension. Frontiers has a different writer and Sega will probably add more contradictions in the future. After all, how else can we explain Eggman's change from goofy to serious. Different writers doing different takes
@@Mario_GamerZ Forces is still canon, yes, but the idea that Classic Sonic is from another dimension has been abandoned by SEGA. Classic Sonic is Sonic from the past again.
Was Breeze built by the same company who manufactured the Magic School Bus? His eyes & mouth give that vibe.
Green vs black eyes debate all over again
Is nose length a sexual dimorphism in the hedgehogs of the modern Sonic universe???
The Cyclone is not based on the F40… but the 1993-2002 Chevrolet Camaro and the Whirlwind is based on the old Lotus 7. In Sonic Drift 2 the Blue Devil is clearly based on the Batman Forever Batmobile.
Dude I love your videos. Thanks for posting these. They're always great on a good day or a bad day
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Amy’s car has a face in this game and also Sonic’s car looks like his iconic shoes
Idw is canon omfg
Nice to see you back to making videos Johnny!
Welcome back!
The Red Car from R should be named "Blaze" as the Opposite of Breeze.
It's the Cyclone because Sonic's other vehicle is his plane, the Tornado.
Amy’s my fav but I never realized she had a living car
8:28 This made me realize Amy works way better as a wildcard type of character rather than a girly girl
My first thought when looking at him if the car from the inspector gadget movie
Breeze reminded me of Putt Putt actually
Okay, hear me out. Sonic. Was originally going to have a human love interest. This was scrapped in favor for Amy. But Amy . . . has a sentient, toon car, in the style of vintage cars. And Knuckles is a lawful good but brutish and even fumbling character that begrudgingly works with the spaztic hyperactive hijinks of Sonic, AND . . . he gets a cool hat in the OVA film.
Fuckin' Who Framed Roger Rabbit baby!!!
Reminds me of the lead car in Motor Toon Grand Prix as well as the art style of whoever worked on the artwork for that game
"What if Breeze has a cold twisted heart" I will not allow this slander, Breeze is my friend and a gentleman & a scholar (jk)
Joking aside, this was a fun little rundown on Breeze! I've always genuinely liked him as a cute little friend to Amy
🚗🏎 Splendid little insight about Amy's vehicles! Comfy little watch and quite informative! Thank you Johnny Vector!✨
The "pink bar of soap" as you said reminds me a lot of MKWii's Wild Wing (Medium Kart), the chunky design with smooth surface is more aesthetic than skill/speed🏁
As for the "girlie" varnish, maybe because Amy likes to stand out from Monster Trucks and Corvettes?
He is not relegated to the "Classic Universe", such a concept and the corresponding "Modern Universe" is a misconception that simply does not exist. Many, many, many, many offical sources like Tailstube have clarified that that the Classic Era is just the past where the cast was younger. Also IDW is canon to the games and so is not a sperate continuity.
It was IIzuka who said Mighty and Ray the Squirrel do not exist in the modern Sonic universe
@@Mario_GamerZ
Again there is no separate universe and this is a further misunderstanding of what he meant, just like how people thought he meant the two worlds literally, when he was talking about two cultures. Mighty and Ray still exist but are not allowed to older designs yet due to marketing. Trip is in the same boat, which is why Sonic and friends are allowed to still mention all 3 in Remember When and say that they are meeting up with a older Trip later but you don't see Trip in "Remember When?".
Wassup johnny, love your videos!
Tails's car looks like a banana. Breeze reminds me of those Milky Way commercials lol.
Smart ol blue he took the milky way
I thought of Herbie
I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
Benny the cab was a reference to Herbie lol. This video saying that Breeze is a Benny reference, rather than a Herbie reference, is like saying that a yellow martial arts jumpsuit is a Kill Bill reference rather than a Bruce Lee one.
i thought of Lighting Mcqueen lmfao
yeah same where is this in comments
"I worked for Amy. She's a fraud."
-Breeze
I will never stop adoring the relationship between Amy Rose and Breeze the CarDroid.
Finally some deserved Breeze the car content
wowww great video, gonna try drift tonight cuz of this
My head-cannon is that Tails designed and built all the vehicles for (at the very least) Sonic and his other friends in the Drift series. Tails and Sonic are both capable pilots, and capable drivers by proxy, but Amy being so young and most likely incapable of driving, Tails built a car that could basically drive itself. By Sonic R, Amy could drive somewhat, so she used an actual car.
Amy being a car collector would be an interesting thing to make canon to her character [way better than the fucking cards shit they've replaced her personality with 💀]
Yuji Naka has always been into sports cars, and that's part of what inspired Sonic's speed. Amy's usually been shown to be slower than Sonic, so as a Sonic fangirl it would make sense she would want to experience that speed and try to keep up to him, slowly becoming a car geek in the process. They could even still do the "girlboss" shit by having her work on her own cars with some help from Tails.
Her playing with cards was in the manual all the way back in CD. It's not a new trait, just a throwback to her original appearance
Feel bad for Breeze, but I like my generic cars. Team Sonic racing cars are top tier for me, but Breeze could just be my friend
Nice vid
I always saw Breeze as like Herbie, in that he can have a driver, but also has a mind of his own. Amy is basically Jim Douglas
What if Breeze became a skin in Sonic R or something?
Finally someone talking about Breeze
The weirdest thing is that she even needs a car at all in Sonic R. She's one of the few people in their world relatively capable of keeping pace with Sonic on foot and for some reason she's in a car in the only racing game that allows characters to be on foot?
HES BACK
#justiceforbreeze
I always found it interesting what SEGA Japan was trying to make Sonic Mainstays before the Saturn and Dreamcast completely stomped that out from 1997-1999
No Fang, No Breeze.
Heroes tried to bring back some of that with the bright colorful stages that slowly got a little darker along with Metal Sonic and Rebooted Chaotix before that gradually dissapeared by 06 (besides Metal but he does not matter anymore)
I never thought you'd make me interested in Japanese Classic Amy
I love your videos so much
Banana car, Inverse Brum
Always wondered what the deal was with Breeze back then. Really looked like straight out of some golden years cartoon lol
Sega typically ignores obscure Sonic characters and media. It's usually fans that bring it back like Sonic Mania bringing back Mighty and Ray the Squirrel.
it kinda feels like amy was off having her own adventures and making her own friends
i want breeze in my house
*Its official, Pixar stole from Sonic lol* 😂
“Nack the Weasel” he’s only Nack the Weasel in the Archie comics. He’s canonically Fang the Sniper/Hunter and he’s a jerboa
I honestly like her Sonic R vehicle best as it goes well colour wise. As charming as Breeze is, there's far too much colour clash going on, Amy already has pretty bright pink, green, red and orange.
I was literally about to comment his design reminds me of Benny the Cab before you mentioned that.
To be fair that version of Amy is 8 years old so she wouldn’t be able to drive anyway.
It’s even weirder how the Classic version of Tails is around four years old and he flies a friggin plane.
Breeze may actually be a cybertronian for all we know, let's just hope he isn't secretely a decepticon spy
Could you imagine breeze the day amy brougth a new car home? That must have been devastating...
Breeze reminds me of Captain Rock’s car from Motor Toon Grand Prix 1 & 2
Bit of a stretch, but with Blaze being compared as an alternate Sonic, Breeze might be sideline so we don't have fans calling him Car-Sonic. That paint job is just telling.
That, or we may also be looking at a "good-Metal Sonic" too, could go either way.
A Monster Truck actually feels like such an obvious choice to give Amy Rose. It's like... the giant piko hammer of cars. I'm shocked they haven't used that for her yet. Imagine a big Monster Truck with the eyelash headlights and other cute accessories
If you can't beat Sonic R as Amy, you're playing the game wrong. Exploit the shortcuts.
It's possible, yes. But not enjoyable. The game was not designed around using Amy so its awkward
@@Mario_GamerZ Well, that's Sonic R in a nutshell.
0:47 you can tell me that it's based on the f40, but my eyes say catfish camaro
I was thinking that too. With a little bit of viper in it
Ha! Amy's sleek car in team sonic racing was dope. I would drive that in real life. Way better than any of her previous vehicles
Y'know, it makes sense Amy of all people would have a sentient car. She's incredibly empathetic and thoughtful of others, so perhaps Breeze is just doing what she would anyway
Might even be a combination of good understanding and a psychic link, and her tarot knowledge only being unusual for a little girl is a fun bit of culture shock apparently
