Bikes and the riding of are I believe one of the only things that melts away stress, I still (at 48yrs of age) feel like an 8 yr old when riding out my gate, doesn’t matter where I’m heading, the ride is great!
what is your take on using a single-gear cruiser as a commute bike? been considering.. but not sure about being in traffic and going up hills with no gears...
Nice work! I haven't seen one of these for years. When I was 12 years old I got my first job, a paper route delivering the San Jose Mercury News, and my mom bought me one of these brand new and had it fitted with a custom rear rack designed to hold those two-pouched canvas bags that held the papers. Some local guy made and sold various bike racks. This was in 1973. It was the perfect bike for that job because those bags were pretty heavy when loaded with papers, and mine was yellow just like this one. These bikes are tanks and it's cool to see one again. Cheers.
Awesome work! I have this same bike in my garage with fenders and chain guard. I like your cockpit set up. By the way, I really appreciate your explanations and your camera angles. Thanks
Very cool frame! I've been browsing now and then for a older long wheel base frame to put my mid-drive e-kit on for a "cruiser". This is a really cool looking bike!
My work had these with heavy duty front baskets on them, but apparently too many people don't know how to ride a bike. Too many injuries from crashing, so the company threw them into dumpsters, and no, they wouldn't let anyone have them, then replaced all the two wheeled bicycles with crappy three wheeled trikes with huge baskets or racks on the back.
This bike costs around $300 to build, including the price of the bike. I would say it's worth around $400. With a Klunker, the price and the investment could be all over the map.
Some of them, I give to friends and family and the other ones, I sell. Mostly, just to get back what I invested into the build. These are usually quite expensive to build.
@@DePuesshop Be really cool to get all your old builds and new owns together one day for a ride. Love to see that video and hear what the new owners think of the builds.
I have the same frame and did a klunker build. One issue I came across. I bought Chris King headset 1 inch. I wasn’t able to fit it due to the oversized headtube with threaded steer. Is there a way to work around this so I can add the Chris king headset? Do I need to change the forks?
@ did you by chance measure the headtube cups? I think I measured at 32.5mm which is slightly smaller than modern 1 1/8 and bigger than 1 inch headsets. Do you agree? Just want to make sure I didn’t measure wrong.
Well, my history with bikes is always one of beating up on a bike and never liked when the kickstand fell down. I see it's place on certain bikes, but this klunker is going to be going off road, so it will stay off for now.

I'm 52 and feel the same.
@SimplicityForGood anything is possible but it's easier on the knees with gears especially if there are hills on your commute.

I am loving that folks are using power tools for detailing purposes on Bikes like I do. I went wth a 1 inch polisher and I havent looked back.
Thanks for giving her the love. Definitely a cool bike to save and u did a nice proper build👍

What a change from the weather in Florida! 🥶
I know!!
What a fantastic find in that condition. Yes, I would have kept the diamond plate.
This looks killer! Super nice.
Another very cool bike DePue!
Sweet! Heavy-but kinda cool !😎
Cool bike man nice heavy ride
This bike is a good candidate for an electric conversion.
Looks sick, only thing I would change is the bars to some higher ones
Beautiful and solid bike 🚲.
🫂🚴♂️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I see just listed an old Schwinn 26 inch Mens bike on marketplace on Wolverine Lake. Just an FYI.

Cool build. Fun little project. Have considered installing 3pc bmx crankset instead of thst ond piece? Some polished profile cranks could be nice.
Yes, I was hunting for some 3 pc cranks, but I couldn't justify the expense. They definitely would have been a sweet addition.
You should kept the kickstand.
Question:
Can one repack the mini grease pump when empty or do one have to buy new cartridges? 🤔
Really handy tool. 👍
Yes, I repack mine all the time. Just unscrew the top and fill it up.
@@DePuesshop thx.
An what brand? 🙂
There's a link to the one I have in the video description.
your patience paid off on the fiddly kick stand. I would have switched to the universal kick stand wrench (angle grinder)
🤣
Did they make a 29-inch wheel version of this bike? I'm taller and looking for a bigger frame bike with a longer chain stay...😎
No, Schwinn did not. There are some other 29 cruisers out there to convert.
how much does a bike like this cost? or what is a bike like this worth? Seen the WTP Avenger 27.5 Crusier.. I like it... is about 950 euro, however!

Shimano 110 is the best new coaster brake hub you can get now.
Nice!
@DePuesShop - What do you do with all these bikes?

@@DePuesshop Makes sense. Bikes can take up a lot of space. Hope they appreciate the workmanship you put into the builds.

I'm not familiar with the limitations of the Chris King headset. Sorry, I used the stock one on mine.

Why don't you use kick stands? This Heavy Duti could use one.

Nice bike love to have it.Are the wheels steel?Does it have a 23 tooth sprocket in the rear?
The rims and front hub are aluminum. The rear sprocket is a 22t. I try to keep all my single speeds as a 2:1 ratio on the drivetrain.
Some use Red and tacky grease on the coaster brakes.
Thank you for the tip!
