How do you get Venice as your country? Is it a mod or something cuase I’m trying to set up a single city right now and I’m able to make it one city but only with the classic regular leaders

So i'm sorry if you take offense for some reason,i wouldn't, but every time I hear you say that's fantastic i think of the 9th Dr from doctor who. :D and once in particular you sounded like him.

Ethiopia is a good civ for a one city challenge as well, but I'm not so sure about India since happiness is rarely a problem with only one city.
I'm sure you would of been just fine on emperor.
As for wonders, the Colossus is just great with Venice.

I never played as venice, what kind of keeps me from playing them, though I always go in tradition, but one city means only one production at a time, and yes I know about gold and such but still, gameplay with venice is always the same, youy need to go for tradition for bigger city bonusses and concentrate on handling to get gold to buy ground, units and buildings, I like Faith approach with celts more, though I may try venice next round I play ..

It's just something different. I personally find they are a bit gimmicky. As you tend to need lots of trade and allied city states, you're almost always closer to a diplomatic victory than any other type.

UnstableVoltage "....CITY STATES.." god I hate them....they always seem to f*ck me in the ass at some point.
first time I played ( 2 months ago ) I was playing with poland, I have 3 cities guite far from each other, I have "peace" with germany & spain, two city states are around me, than england comes by and starts to make me look bad, and than they start war with me, so I fortificate 3rd city closest to them, most of my army there, and than one of the city states expands so that I need to move in there territory, than all of the sudden they became all aggresive and made peace with england...
so I want to get back to the capital, but hey english soldiers came to the city, so to get trough I need to fight the english army and city state, but the city state is under protection of germany, holland and spain......so when I secured and destroyed the city I lost peace with germany, holland did nothing and spain made peace with england to kill me.......god I hate them

MisterDuch GamesPl City States can be a mixed blessing. I always used to think they were pointless (even to the point where I would consider turning them off in my early games). They just take up valuable space. But once you get some money behind you, or can complete a few quests to get them on board; they are valuable allies. More for the stuff they give you over their ability to help you fight (which is next to hopeless). But I feel your pain - having a City State switch sides at the wrong moment can really make for a difficult game.

+Nicholas Baerwaldt I see what you're getting at with the purchasing units and buildings in puppeted cities, but normally you go for lots of trade with Venice and all those trade routes are vulnerable if you're at war
