At times, the manhwa adaptations fail to fully capture the essence of the novels, often skipping significant scenes. While understandable, given the immense workload faced by manhwa artists striving to deliver high-quality content, it still leaves something to be desired in terms of fidelity to the source material. PS. Suicide Hunter did the webnovel 👌👌👌👌 Also I recommend "Cheolsu Saves the World" if you like Suicide Hunter. ... Oh... Garnt mentioned this series already.
XDXDXD the amount of these i am recognizing cause i have read them through to the most recent chapters is concerning XDXDXD you really have fallen down the rabbit hole........
You haven't read Eastern European isekai yet, most of which talk about how the author finds himself in a historical period that worries him and changes history like an OP Mary Sue.
I also find it funny how you also ordered it in the general consensus of average quality from best to worst in the eastern comics community. If Manga is usually restaurant food, then manhwa is fast food. If manhwa is fast food, manhua is American convenience store food.
The moment when you read so many manhwas about the same level up/regression plot with similar looking main characters that all the MCs get mixed up in your head and they become Kim Gong Dokja Sung Jin Park. And the Manhwa titles get melded into a single pot of The Solo Dark Mage Regressor Player Levels Up Alone After 9999 Years
honestly there should be list of manhwa where they get reincarnated or regress as baby, teens or adult cause you can read till chapter 50 and they still hasn't had their 17th birthday@@HiAndHello-w9l
Its drawn by the same guy who did solo levelling, but it has legitimate story, characters and writing. Solo levelling has the hype, esp the art on the big spreads but this has an actual all around package and intrigue. The solo levelling anime in comparison is a let down since besides the art and style it has absolutely minimal substance.
For those curious the last one that was blurred is called “omniscient readers view point” you can find it for free along with a lot of the basic power fantasies that he used as visuals on asura scans (maybe called asura toons now).
I don't really like isekai, I'm not a trash connoisseur-but I feel like Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint will be *perfect* for isekai fans. It has a very novel (heh...) approach to the matter, but still has a strong zero-to-OP vibe. It's quite good!
the regression genre in manhwa is so big that it isn't just in action series. I was first introduced to it through the historical royalty genre its usually used for the main character to go back and change the future or fix their life but its a genre that i personally love even if the reasons why they go back can be repetitive. also omniscient readers viewpoint is my favourite manhwa and definitely deserves its own video
And there's the closely related genre where the MC enters the novel and ends up in the body of one of the main characters, often the main antagonist of the novel.
@@aoi-1016 Yeah, that felt like a pretty big missing subgenre by Gigguk, considering that 99% of the RF manhwas that aren't Otome Isekais are regressions. The Villainess Turns the Hourglass, I Am the Real One, etc. There are even a few that combine the two. One perhaps not as well known that I have immensely enjoyed is Sigrid, thanks to the main character being a positive portrayal of someone who is neurodivergent without having to make it some sort of superpower.
11:14 In A Man's Man, Hansung is actually based on LG while their rival Ilsung is based on Samsung. It's actually a real life power fantasy of the original story writer who actually worked in LG (kind of a project manager in charge of developing OLED TV) where LG wins the smartphone race over Samsung. You can really tell how much he wishes LG had kept going with their smartphone development.
damn thats interesting! thats why i felt like the author knows the ins and outs of the politics also does this means in that universe it was more called HS than LG? XD
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is on its own level even beyond regression novels. Like it’s insanely good and well plotted. Not a single detail in the story is insignificant and you’ll notice new details every time you read it.
And it's not really a regression manwha. Because it's story protag isn't a regressor. Only the protag of the world itself. And he can't even regress. Because Joonghyuk wouldn't be in the story anymore. 😂
Slight spoilers, it think? I don't really consider ORV as a regression story, but more of a story WITHIN a regression story. Our protagonist (KDJ) isn't like the "real" protagonist (YJH) of the story, who is the regressor.
ORV truly is one of the greatest “regression” manhwas out there if not THE greatest and I’m more than ecstatic that it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves!
@noway2777 Jonghyuk is literally called a regressor, right? And while KDJ is the mc, and technically he hasnt gone back in time, he still knows the future via having, y'know, read the book.
Trash of the Count's family is a hidden gem and a masterpiece in my opinion like the deeper you go into the novel the better it becomes. The author is so clever in connecting plotlines and putting foreshadowings although her writing style may not be everyone's cup of tea. And the characters are all so lovable especially my baby dragon RAON MIRUUU❤️❤️✨✨
I hate it when they do that because most of the time the changes arent at all explainable by the MCs actions. It's just arbitrarily different so the author can challenge the MC.
@@reilysmith5187That's permissible if there's a reason for it, though. Like, it would imply that some other force or entity is messing with the timeline as well, perhaps intentionally to make things harder for the hero, which would make for a good plot point since now the protagonist has to figure out who or what is working against them.
@@reilysmith5187 The MC that is thrown in the world would be a different person by nature even if they try to act out the same as the original character, from the start things would've changed regardless unless they are the same exact person

You know that weird feeling of superiority you get when you have been reading a Manga for a long time and it finally gets an Anime adaptation and suddenly everyone discovers it for the first time? That's how i feel now that Manhwa are becoming mainstream, but for every Manhwa that is mentioned.
Yes, this exactly. I had no idea Manhwa was soooo under appreciated. I mean, there is tons and tons of it translated into English everywhere. Do all this AnimeTubers/MangaTubers have blinders on or something?

There is a manhwa about an isekai that's called The Greatest Estate Developer. It is one of my favorites and it's so well done and hilariously drawn as well as the pacing and doesn't lose track of itself :D
Was literally so excited just seeing the single frame of ORV in the middle of the video. Was thinking the entire time that there is no regressor more famous than Yoo Joonghyuk, but the problem is that he’s another layer deep 😭 Was also thinking that the whole regressor idea of using your previous knowledge to help you was giving big Kim Dokja vibes, but his situation is more like a reverse “isekai where you’re reincarnated into a character in the novel you read”. Anyway I love ORV so much, excited for a future video about it :3
I'm so happy you have put a spotlight on SSS Class Revival Hunter. I'm reading the novel and I can't wait for some moments to be drawn. I really like how it's written, and I can literally recite some passages by heart. One phrase that stood out to me in particular in the novel was " and yet, he became someone who would move for another's sake". Chills.
I KNEW SSS-class Suicide Hunter would come up! Same as you - went into it expecting junk food, and ended up binging it when I realized I'd found gold. The Murim arc is peak, but what well and truly hooked me is Chapter 34. Up until that point it still had the potential to be generic - but watching everyone's reactions to his actions at that point and seeing the reactions *change*, and seeing we *really didn't know these characters*, made me realize that the author actually cared about the story they were writing, and were willing to put actual depth into it. I can't wait for S4 to start.
The plot gets a lot more confusing and complex later on in the story, but its still really good regardless. I can’t wait for the novel to be fully drawn!
The title really does it no favours because most of the trash ones have the S/SS/SSS or more attached. Even in ORV the author takes the piss out of this by Dokja forging a book that has 6 S's as the title
SSS Class Sucide Hunter is actually shaping out to be a masterpiece. The range the author is willing to travel to shape every different arc in its own unique way is insane. The last two arcs had some of the best storytelling I have seen in fiction PERIOD.
17:51 oh heck yeah I'm waiting for that omniscient readers viewpoint video. What I consider to be the absolute holy grail of all manhwa. Even though it isn't technically regression every aspect of it plays off all the strengths of the genre perfectly.
Omniscient reader viewpoint is the only manhwa that really made me go "this is actually a masterpiece". Not wow that's cool, or man i like it, just flat out one of the best story out there. it's the fate stay night of manhwa, a character study of the main protagonist with historical figures on the side to make it cool. Plus waifus, and just like in fate, best girl is the dude dressed in black.
The peak of Manhwa to me is honestly Hardcore Leveling Warrior, it's prequel X and Ash, and it's sequel Hardcore Leveling Warrior: Earth Game. Every one of these series are actually peak, and the character development and powers are actually fun and unique.
My current favourite regression manhwa is "My younger sister was a genius", it is not fantasy but rather about a dude that wanted to be a singer so badly and he chased that dream all the way until his mother died, she died due to her overworking herself to help put him through the fancy music school, and this basically caused him to realise that he was actually just an ok singer and that he was not particularly talented as a singer and basically his dream costed his family theirs, his sister had a dream which she couldn't follow because her and their mom basically gave everything so he could follow his. When he goes back he learns that his sister's dream was to be a singer just like him, and basically he decides to try to get a scholarship so she can also afford to go to the school and follow her dreams, and obviously he already has a lot of knowledge and experience, he knows he was a mid singer but was actually a particularly good composer and song writer, and so he goes into being a composition major, and that is the basic premise.
I'm a sucker for musical ones. Hoping that I'm with the music immortals turns out to be good. I was hoping that For the Musical Genius was also good, but it seems to have a lot of corporate stuff like Real Man that is good but was not expecting it.
YES! ORV is what finally pushed me to read webnovels after getting caught to the Manhwa on Webtoon! It's an amazing journey that goes so many places with a lot of twists and turns and leaves you craving for more! Can't wait for the next video
6:05 according to the author the original name they wanted was the “Hunter that dies in order to live” or something like that, but there was some delay in communication
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint was the only manhua ever that I read the original novel novel of. Idk, the premise just slapped so much. I never finished it coz it's just too long, but man I do not regret the hours I've poured into it. It's just solid.
@YourLocalDemocracy.Officeran anime was said to have begun production by a credible leaker that has a solid reputation for being legit. its about as confirmed as it gets without an offical announcement
you mean omniscient reader's viewpoint?.. beginning to be recognized? was it ever underrated, I'm confused?? cause' I hear about it about as much as I hear about solo leveling and lookism. it's everywhere, especially if one likes the regression genre. I had no idea it wasn't popular, if that's the case.
@@hel2727 in the west i feel like its only really known by people that are fans of the genre. i read the novel almost 3 years ago now and its only recently ive noticed it really starting to burst out of its bubble
Sss class revival hunter it's so good, I really love the way they make the protagonist change in his way of thinking, I am almost finishing the novel and MAN I really want to know how they are going to draw the more philosophical parts of the story(there's a lot).
sss class suicide hunter is so good im glad that people are finally talking about this masterpiece i recommend it with it being one the only good regressions stories with actuals good character writing and emotional storytelling in it. it even comes with the best romance story ive read in manwha
@@idk0075 Shi fr caught me off-guard. Never expected the romance to be that good. It's even better than some actual romance-oriented series out there. Edit: I just remembered that the illustrator even changed the artstyle to get that romance manhwa vibes 😂.
I am so happy ORV is being mentioned here. It's by far my favorite webtoon. Can't wait for the anime and live action adaptations. I do hope some other webtoons are getting the recognition it deserves tho
Just saw this video been in this rabbit hole for years. Welcome to the club, bud. Especially one mamwha that's not in the regression category but has like 1500 chapters.
The regression manhwa genre is so wide that's why i love it so much! Regression to historical royalty, regression to debut as an idol or you die, regression to save a magic medieval world with modern medicine, regression to save the tower, regression to save the world from monsters coming through gates, regression to start on the road to become a pro athlete, etc. it's all so good!!
@@cacti5668depends, the "I went back in time because truck-kun payed me a visit" is, but the becoming a pro athlete or doctor or something is regression...
Nevermind, my brain turned off when I read "royalty" and I thought the original commenter was talking about isekai royalty when he's probably referring to "I Shall Live as a Prince". The effect of reading too much repetitive isekai
ORV is so good. After waiting forever for updates, I decided I had to somehow keep reading. I've never been able to commit to reading fantranslated webnovels before, but ORV was worth it.
Yeah, despite often terrible translation, it was a great adventure SSS Class Self-Undo Hunter is close second It's because they offer something more than just power fantasy, and it's often not even the point
There's a whole subgenre of fantasy books called Progression Fantasy. It's essentially all of the tropes present in webnovels/manhwa from Korea and China spun into their own stories written by western authors. My gateway to the genre, like many others, was Solo Levelling. If you like SL or ORV you're bound to find something you love in PF.
Omniscient Readers Viewpoint, Solo Levelling, The Beginning After the End, The Greatest Estate Developer, and SSS Class Revival Hunter are pretty much the 5 greatest manhwa of all time. I particularly love ORV and The Greatest Estate Developer. They have so much heart and are cleverly written and have insane art
Yep i cried so hard in the doll mansion scene.😢 I really love each character's story. I am so glad to pick the SSS suicide hunter. It really has great story telling
As someone who has read… my fair share of regression manhwa, I couldn’t help but just feel excited being able to name pretty much the first few scenes that popped up on the screen, then got scared as it kept happening Edit: Also, ORV definitely needs its own video. I tried reading it once, didn’t like it, then read it half a year later and got so hooked I found the light novel and finished the rest of it.
@@angelramirez936it is the Manhwa he mentioned at the end. Called Omniscient Readers Viewpoint. I honestly think I could not explain why it so good so I would just recommend you try it
A fantastic Regressor novel that I read a while ago and still think about is Kidnapped Dragons, it follows a regressor on his 7th regression trying to save the world, which gets destroyed when one of the 4 dragons that were caught in a rift in space end up on Earth, if any of them die, they summon a rift that brings every dragon from their homeland to destroy Earth. His big plan is to kidnap the dragons and live with them until he can find a way to send them home. It is far better than the summary gives, each dragon has a unique personality and goal in coming to Earth for their ritual of growing up, they have the ability to remember every little thing that happens to them and each one has a unique condition for their own demise and how they consider their ritual to be good enough to go back and the protagonist has to juggle every single one of them as the weight of his lifetimes causes him to absolutely despise the creatures in front of him. It is a great read and not too difficult to find, if at least one person checks it out, I hope you enjoy it.
1st one is actually SSS-class Suicide Hunter. Dunno why that particular translation team decided to change the title tho it's still not entirely wrong.
@@dankmemer6576 It's not wrong but revival hunter sounds like "A guy that can come back" and suicide hunter sounds like "a guy who doesn't care about dying" and the second fits dokja a lot more imo
@@alexis_vulquinnXIX I agree with what you're saying, that it's too interesting to not cover, but also understand just how buck wild the story gets when I say that the other guy is also correct. It just gets that wild
As someone who already jumped down that bingehole for over a year, it was awesome to see so many great stories I love being praised! Even better that you recommended a few that I haven't heard of!!!!
SSS Suicide Hunter is absolutely a masterclass of a story. The crazier part imo is that the Murim arc in the novel WAS EVEN BETTER. Like that arc by itself was good in the manhwa, but the amount of detail and effort the author put into describing the struggles of the people of that world was absolutely beautiful. When the finale was accomplished, it just hit so hard because at the very end, you got attached to the characters there just as much as the MC (those who know know).
True, the part describing the farmer boiling a tree bark for his starving children and then watching them throw it away, to him hitting them in his anger was THE peak of storytelling for me
The three most common story settings in manhwa's - "Gates/dungeons, hunters/awakeners, and Monarchs/Constellations/deity" - "Regressions/regressor" - "Murim" Often times, regression tends to be mixed with the other settings because having the main character go back in time is a really easy way to make a revenge story (and koreans fucking love their revenge stories)
You know what grinds my gears? People saying "manhwa" when they're actually talking about "webtoons". One is a comic book, the other is scrolled-down on a phone.
i'm glad SSS suicide hunter are getting recognition, one of the best regression manhwa i've read so far. waiting for ORV video. this 2 are my favorite manhwa's of all time
For those wondering, the censored title at the end was "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint," and there's been supposed leaks that an anime for it is already in the works
You single-handedly made my entire year with just a comment, my man..... Frame this comment and put it on your bathroom wall, becos this has changed the life of one person, aka me.
@@hololovesapples8979 Live action ORV....i dont know if that will work 🤨 but i hope we will get an anime, i think that would be a lot better fit for all the "crazy" Storyelements 🤓
I'm Really Glad You've read "SSS-Class Suicide Hunter", "Cheolsu Saves The World", and "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint". They're some of the best titles in the entire medium.
So I started "Cheolsu Saves The World" after this video and am currently almost through season 1, but I must have missed the year in which the comet destroys the earth. I know he always goes back to his 13yo self, then we have a 20 year timeskip, but there is no mention of how much time passes afterwards, right? I skimmed through the first chapter again, didn't see anything. Google doesn't help either. I'm going insane here.
Cheolsu saves the world deservers an anime or even live action adaptaion, if it followed the original novel with all its details, instant 10/10 masterpiece. A great fucking story.
In sss clas suicide hunter. I’d say by far the saddest floor was the one with the doll children he plays hide and seek with. Those chapters had me absolutely weeping. It’s a really good story where even the characters who are supposedly “monsters” like the children have a fully thought out and explained backstory and resolution.
I love the regression trend. Some of my favorites are ORV, Room of Swords, Villains are Destined to Die, and The Fantasie of a Stepmother, but there are so many good ones it feels like I’ll never run out
@@tsubakireimuch.8016 I kind of agree with you since technically Dokja didn’t regress, but since he approaches the story with knowledge of the future, especially future knowledge accumulated through a regressor’s POV, I still think it’s a fair way to categorize ORV. Tbh though this is the first time I’ve heard regression specified as the genre, I’m used to hearing it as a plot point only.
The beaming grin on my face seeing that Thumbnail First ever Manwha to make me literally just fkn cry or tear up on several occasions. The Web novel in particular has IMMACULATE attention to detail and every point in the story is made intentionally, and powerfully It was unreal to me how a minor point that I overlooked came full circle later on in the story and made me go "God damn, that wasn't even plot armor. That was intentional, and planned so fkn long ago" No one could ever make me dislike this story , there's too much to love about it I may have already blinded myself to all of it's flaws So upset I'm caught up with it, and have to just wait patiently for each new chapter

I liked flashing Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint at the end. I have to say that it is a story that is super unique and just sucks you in. Made in Abyss is like that for me. ORV is an experience. Compared to most manhwa out there it has such deep world-building is insane. With the fact that there are # regressions(won't spoil the number) plus an MC who is not the regressor but knows everything is just like wow. It actively occupies your attention like no other manhwa does.
tbh, if gigguk really make a video about ORV, i hope by that time it would have already reached to the point of the demon king arc. anyways, great video!! i really love sss-class suicide hunter, the doll and murim arc made me cry so much
i mean really depends some characters in it are pure just some chad who can do no wrong and are always sane in their mental capacities. maybe its just me trashing on the shitty manhwas but i love stories like orv, sss-suicide hunter where the mc is very level headed but breaks down when the odds are significantly stacked against em (both have to face impossible scenarios for orv he is saved because his plot armour is literally canon and sss can kill himself infinitely to get a perfect run)
omniscient reader's viewpoint is so much more than just a regression manhwa, all the novel readers will understand its legit the best BOOK I have ever read, with so much depth and thoughts you can process about! some very difficult and existential themes... absolutely beautiful, have an ORV related tattoo and it will always be my top 1 ever
absoutely couldn't agree more. i read it durning covid and have never dived so deep into a peice of media before. i read it all day then dreamed about it at night, and it still wasn't enough.
The thing I love THE MOST about suicide hunter (The real name of this series. Bloody fight me!) is the fact that the main character never seem so overpowered that he could solve everything with power alone. Yes, he is without a shiver of a doubt the most powerful person in this series, but that doesn't really matter when trying to handle a literal world of problems. He can't do it alone no matter how powerful he becomes, but he can help the worlds and change them for the better by acting in them, and that is bloody awesome! the fact the former time traveling character in the show lose so easily to the main character is because the main character have something that he was lacking. He has commitment and ideal to actually go through with his plan. He cares about the people around him to a fault and I love reading stories like that! He doesn't fight to save himself or the world (Necessarily) he fights to save the people around him. the worlds are so unique and cool I could see several stories being told from one of those worlds alone, yet here he just go through like 4 different genres of stories in the span of a few hundred chapters without it feeling out of place or weird. I absolutely love that! He feels like a person unlike the main character from solo leveling that feels like a natural disaster in a human body. It is nice to have him feel way more human rather than the typical unfeeling overpowered protagonist that have removed all resemblance of human emotions...other than anger for some reason.....to become more powerful.
I like how it feels like its not exactly pure strength that makes him succeed, but you really feel like its due to his planning and intelligence! All the characters are great and lovable, and I like how it explains why he doesnt use his "Original Power" more often for every thing
@@thahirshibu5042 The side characters are top tier tho. Kinda wish the MC had a more "likeable" personality. Like i get that he saved a bunch of people, but dang its grating.
Exactly! Like holy sht, when the manwha just released with 20 chapters back in 2021, I knew that the author was cooking somethin! After that point, I started reading the novel and never ever felt burnout nor lose interest. The writing was just phenomenal for me back then, till now.
I just watched S1of the Doctor Elise anime, which seems to be a Regression wrapped around an Isekai. MC reversed Isekaied then Isekai's back to their original fantasy world after living a life in our world. It's a very tame Josei with medical procedural elements.
oh i am so ready for the orv video! orv is one of my favorite stories ever and i hope more people give it a read! especially the web novel because while i am really liking how the manhwa is adapting it (sleepyc is such an amazing artist) i really feel like it's best experienced/read as a novel. anyway, thank you gigguk for the video and recommendations! Been wanting to read more manhwa and I can't wait to get into these other titles!
the more i hear about SSS suicide hunter and its brand of regression in this video the more im just reminded of Homura Akemi in PMMM because that is basically what she had to do , minus killing herself in order to travel back in time
by the way just want you to acknowledge "My S class hunters" because it is roped in the same group as "Omniscient reader" and is basically want if the protagonist makes others strong and shows how the strongest have their own problems and emotions.
The S-Classes That I Raised, Omnicient Reader, and Trash of the Count's Family are usually seen as a group for this reason. . . . While the first is a regression manhwa, the other two are closer to isekai - of the particular, more manhwa flavor of TRANSMIGRATION. (I got reincarnated into a world that I already read the book/watched the anime/played the game for)
I love My S-Class Hunters, it deserves more than a mention of its forgettable name. Fun characters with great platonic chemistry, consistent humor, and cute pets (the way the fire cat is drawn is perfection) that are balanced well with a serious story and some juicy trauma. I wish the MC didn't get as many power ups as he did (some of them are cool, but others make him secretly OP so it kills the tension at times), but he's still relying on his strategic and emotional intelligence way more than on his powers, so it's really good.
Omniscient Teaser, The S-Classes that I raised and Trash of the Count Family deserve more! All hail the holy Trinity ! (If you add SSS hunter, you have the Kim S. Squad + Han Yoojin Now add again The Greatest Estate Developer and we get The Cunning Five )
I really recommend Doom Breaker (or Reincarnation of the suicidal battle god). I have already read every manhwa that appears in this video and in some of the comments ( 100+ in total), and overall Doom Breaker is the best I have found in a long time. The manhwa has it all: good art (which get even better later), good combat and, above all, a very well-written story. The way the author gives foreshadowing is very good (I did not realise it until the second read), it seems like he has the whole story planned out before he starts writing, the characters have personalities and their own interests in a very human way. The main character is smart and strong but not invencible, he tries to make moves in clever ways that do not put him in difficult situations, and most importantly there is romance in the story, which is rare in manhwas of this genre. The only downside(for some) is that the story starts out very generic, but after Yuridika's raid arc, the story starts to develop in a way that is hard to explain. Here are some other good gems I have found, some of them are well known while others are not (sss class suicide hunter is S btw): S: Return of the Mount Hua Sect The Greatest Estate Developer Omniscient Readers Viewpoint I Am The Sorcerer King A returner's magic should be special (starts generic, but is good). A+: Duke Pendragon Academy’s Undercover Professor The Indomitable War King (very new, but promising). Aire(seori).(Good art) Those are the ones I can remember now, if anyone is interested in more I can research others and post them here as well. To conclude, Doom breaker is good to a point where I think this comment is the second or third I've made in 10+ years of this youtube account, it doesn't get the attention it deserves (like some others I've quoted). The author also suffers from health problems, which makes it difficult for him to continue the story in order to gain more engagement. As a fan, the minimum I can do is a little propaganda to help him.
I was surprise how much gigguk hinted at it at the beginning but never named dropped. Doom breaker is so good and the tension you feel in the panel especially in the more recent arcs.
SSS Revival Hunter is GOD LEVEL!!! I started reading it from the first chapter that came out, now I literally squeal like a mad fangirl whenever a chapter come out!!
I gave up already and read the novel… if its good now, you will understand later on why its peak after reaching literal peak of what already is. Its goes SUPER deep and its easy to understand since its literally the general plot of the tower itself, wait until after floor 35th, wait until the legendary “Huh?” that is going to let the whole story to literally reach the prologue of the story and actually start and reach its end… its so peak after you inmerse yourself to mc and understand him after floor 35 and after floor 70-80 it just sad… bc it do sadly starts speeding the pace for a good reason, so good it literally just feels… complete.
In summary, Gongja is if not the best written mc I have seen for a while, why? Because you actually see and understand what he sees and changes, thus explaining self growth to the reader, and letting yourself grow and accept your own life… or so I did and shared with friends and now we are uhh… “enlightenment” will be a good word, SSS is basically sharing with us ultimate peak enlightenment
As someone who went from webtoons when I was a kid “Shen, unordinary, I love Yoo, to anime and manga in high school, and finally manhua and manhwa, and light novels in college “greatest estate developer, omniscient reader, chrysalis etc…” when I found this video from my favorite anime youtuber, the feeling of exultation was nothing like I’d ever felt 🎉🎉🎉
@@Shh_have_a_snickers greatest estate developer somehow topped my list of manwha even against big hitters like The Breaker, The beginning after the end, The Heavenly demon cant live a normal life and Doom breaker
It's funny how this isn't a new thing at all. I mean, I remember watching the Movie Peggy Sue Got Married when I was a kid decades ago. It's just that manhwa is running with it, which is great to see. I wish Japan would do more of them. I enjoyed Re:Life and Remake Our Life (not the same thing, lol), and was hoping for more real-life titles like this. The fantasy ones are cool and all, but the regular folk ones are neat as well. And I'm really looking forward to Cheolsu Saves The World.
my personal favorite was "second life ranker" well. its about brother revenge, going to the secret portal where his twin brother once go there after receiving his brother watch, which had the memory of his brother. slowly progressing by killing once by once the person who betray his brother and go beyond the most powerful.
HELP WHY DID I RECONGNISE MOST OF THESE TITLES WHERE IS THE GRASS??? also sss class suicide hunters is defiantly one of favorite manhuwas!! I don't want to spoil it too much but every arc tugged at my heart strings slightly in a way I wasn't totally expecting it to and it only got better as it went on. AND OMG I WONT SAY HER NAME BUT THAT WOMAN.... SHE DOESNT SHOW UP FOR AWHILE BUT I WORSHIP THE GROUND SHE WALKS ON OML i would also like to touch on the more ig feminine(?) side of the regression and isekai genre. There are a lot of stories centered around women, typically set in a fantasy and or royalty setting. There are a lot of sub categories to this but I think they give off the same vibes in that the main characters are incredibly intelligent and OP and most of them have very similar formulas.
Bruh it’s the feminine side that got me into isekai and regression manhwa. When you start it’s a whole rabbit hole you keep going into. I really cannot count how many in the past 4 years I’ve read and till this day I will keep reading no matter how repetitive it can get 😂
GIVE TITLES INSTEAD OF JUST SAYING "i would also like to touch on the more ig feminine(?) side of the regression and isekai genre." TITLES !!! GIVE US TITLES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
@@voilavoila196 one of my absolute favorites is called the villainess turns the hourglass!! this one is complete so its good to start with. you can find a lot of this genre by typing like “villainess” or something into the search bar. a few other recs are; villians are destined to die (VERY GOOD, pretty sad, made me cry a few times) father i dont want this marriage (complete, one of my personal favorites) the monstrous duke’s adopted daughter(complete) my secretly hot husband (the title make it sound shallow but its actually pretty good if you give it a try, complete) sacrificed (complete) s class hunter doesnt want to be a villainous princess (newer, mc was completed the tower and was transported to another world) most of these are romance and revenge type stories. id give you more recs but i dont keep track of everything i read so i hope these are okay!! enjoy reading ^
@@voilavoila196 I'd like to add a few to the above recommendations: I Shall Master this Family (economic/political drama, heartwarming family stuff, romance) The Soulless Duchess (revenge, fantasy, romance) Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion (great beginner series; comedy, romance, also an anime!) The Lady Needs a Break (reincarnation burnout, fantasy, romance) Touch My Little Brother and You're Dead (comedy, lots of comedy, romance) not all of these are actually regression, but they're very alike in genre, like isekai and reincarnation and I 100% second Villains Are Destined to Die and The Villainess Turns the Hourglass, two of my favorites
The murim arc of SSS Suicide Hunter made me cry. Omniscent Reader is a very good story. There is also the novel A Regressor Tale Of Cultivation, which had me in tears. Reincarnation stories are interesting as well, like The Return Of The Blossoming Blade, where the characters returns, but 200 years after their death.
YES SSS suicide hunter makes me hurt and Omniscient reader is fucking great! here's another you should try, Tomb Raider King, like it's fantastic and the ideas behind it are interesting as hell!
As someone who has already been into regression, isekai and whatever trash is put on the plate. I suggest u to read so many of them till u can predict how the plot of every first chapter goes. Yet you’ll still read chapter 1 anyway.
I’ve gotten to this point but every once in a while you find a gem in the rough. Surviving the game as a barbarian is the first isekai in a long while that actually surprised me, would recommend. Main character is actually smart and not op
OH MY GOD THERES A DIO REFERENCE ON FLOOR 21 HAHAHAHAHAHA. I literally picked this up today because of you Gigguk...4 hours and 50 chapters later you were not kidding that it just keeps ramping up and floor 21 is GOLD! Honestly...thank you for such an amazing recommendation. I was a little under the weather and this has made my Sunday so much more enjoyable!
I see your panels and that's ORV, one of the best manhwa novels out there with a fairly good manhwa comic adaptation. It definitely deserves its own video and I look forward to it.
Cheolsu is a masterpiece in the genre elevating it to new levels. The protagonist is dealing with a problem that isn't fixed solely by knowing the future. It is a mission which is so overbearing that it only seems fair he be given knowledge of the future. It also deals with the emotional turmoil of dying so often.
I like that just when the MC though he finished his mission, there're many unaccounted troubles pop up that ruin his plans. I also admire his sheer determination to finish the seemingly impossible goal even thought he had been through despair and hopelessness.
If you liked it, you may like the book Project Hail Mary. Has the same premise of space travel and saving the earth. Of course, the plot is different. If you like the grand leaps in technology then you might like bobiverse or even Hitchhiker's guide to the universe. Cheolsu saves the world was really good and reminded me of project Hail Mary (without the regression lol).
Cheolsu suffered so much just to suffer some more, man needs some rest the only redeeming grace Cheolsu has is that his memories gets blurry every regression, if he kept all those memories without it getting blurry he's really gonna go crazy
Garnt, I discovered ORV because of a comment from the Solo Leveling video you made. Finished the novel after running out of the manhwa. That brainrot had infected me for two freaking years. I don't think any manhwa or media will ever hit me quite like this one did.
@@rimurutempest4886 Lord of Mysteries is actually amazing. It contends with some english classics plot wise but the translated prose holds it back a little, as all translated works do. Manga, manhwa and manhua readers are lowkey worrying. They read anything with action and semi-decent plot and call it a masterpiece. Maybe im being pretentious but i wouldn't call anything a masterpiece unless it was timeless like The hobbit/LOTR or Pride and Prejudice or Sherlock Holmes or Journey to the west. Pieces that have influenced their whole genre and continue to influence them.
@@averageguy7620 Lol???? Broken OP MC who already knows everything that is going to happen... If that isn't brainrot, what is? (Read manhwa -> caught up on LN btw, I DO know what I'm talking about) I'd say it's family diner manhwa, not exactly bad, its just very predictable, and this makes all the victories less impressive.
@@faranocks Ok this is a doozy I don't know how you got through the entire novel and still call it brainrot but I am still going to break your argument into parts and counter it. 1. "Lol???? Broken OP MC who already knows everything that is going to happen..." How is he broken when there are literally countless people in his own verse with more broken abilities than him. Also he isn't truly omniscient, he only knows things that the novel MC went through and there are countless mysteries that weren't solved in the og novel. Also while he may have the knowledge, That doesn't alone make it that clearing every scenario is a piece of cake considering he is too low level and it even took the Novel MC to die multiple times to clear every scenario. 2. "If that isn't brainrot, what is? (Read manhwa -> caught up on LN btw, I DO know what I'm talking about)" Even if you don't agree with my first point it doesn't make it brainrot. Even if you think the MC is broken and knows everything and it's too easy for him doesn't mean that the characters and the story is brainrot especially considering the story, mystery and characters are the best parts of ORV. 3. "I'd say it's family diner manhwa, not exactly bad, its just very predictable, and this makes all the victories less impressive." how tf are the victories not impressive when the MC has to struggle countless times, has to use actually strategy to get out of bad situations and has to die multiple times for his companions when his knowledge of the events fail him?? Did you and I read the same novel??
Glad you finally found SSS class revival hunter. The writer's range is absolutely phenomenal. I first found it when the manhwa finished the 10th floor fight, and it was one of best written arcs I've ever read, even made me cry. After that I rushed to read the novel, and was surprised to find that the manhwa pulled zero punches in the adaptation: Basically every scene in the book made the transition, save for one right at the start, where the manhwa fails to make it clear that the MC spent a day figuring out what happened, while in the manhwa it seems like he immediately meets the flame emperor again. Then you had the Demon King of Autumn Rain arc, which somehow managed to surpass the previous arc in terms of emotional impact. And every arc always managed to eclipse the previous one in terms of emotional impact. The Murim arc was the absolute peak of the series, and while the GongjaxRaviel ship is one of my favorites and I absolutely love their dynamic, that arc felt like something was missing in the conclusion, as it felt a bit like a deus ex machina was used to resolve it, which, if we're looking at it from the pov of the Librarian, would fit, since he's technically a fanfic writer and sends in his OCs to fix stories with terrible endings, and while a deus ex machina is typically the mark of a bad writer, there are cases where a writer can use a deus ex machina and it wouldn't feel out of place.
Dude, SSS Revival Hunter is currently one of my favorites. It seems to get better every floor. The Murim arc was really good and got me hooked. The next arc, The Tale of Sormwyn Academy, was top tier and a very unexpected romance that hit all the right notes. Really hope this one get an anime soon because it is cooking.
Take a walk on the girly side sometime, otome works in this space have their own spice. Those that got an anime: - Tearmoon Empire: Antoinette (but not technically) gets a chance to undo the not-technically French Revolution. - Doctor(Surgeon) Elise: Both regression AND isekai. Queen consort villainess in a bizarro earth (she ruled over "Britia") falls in a revolution, goes to our Earth, becomes a crazy skilled doctor, falls in a plane crash, then returns to her first world as her young enough old self to fix things as a doctor queen consort. - 7th Time Loop: Noblewoman's engagement is broken off and the protagonist spends five years learning a new profession before being caught up in a world war. Happens six times, her seventh is spent engaged to the one who started that war as she tries to prevent it.

At times, the manhwa adaptations fail to fully capture the essence of the novels, often skipping significant scenes. While understandable, given the immense workload faced by manhwa artists striving to deliver high-quality content, it still leaves something to be desired in terms of fidelity to the source material.

Should read the novel for it imo , way better than manhwa
Big up for wanting to give ORV its own video. Love the story and the plot, I'm right in the middle and daaannng it gets so good
For those curious the last one that was blurred is called “omniscient readers view point” you can find it for free along with a lot of the basic power fantasies that he used as visuals on asura scans (maybe called asura toons now).
It can also be found legally on webtoon

The romance fantasy regression hits hard when there's the one trash heroine
And there's the closely related genre where the MC enters the novel and ends up in the body of one of the main characters, often the main antagonist of the novel.
Otome Isekai!
The ones who popularized regression genre was re:zero and tokyo revenger.
ORV MENTIONED??
Been properly reading manhwa for almost 4 years, webtoons for probably 8. So happy it's getting more and more popular every year. :)

As an LG phone haver, I too wish they had kept going 😭 now I have to find a new phone that still offers OS updates

Second Life Ranked is another well written story as well. Although it's slow AF the story is really good but ORV is top 3 manhwas definitely
It's also not just vain power fantasy, but a surprisingly philosophical work
Tbate too
ORV truly is one of the greatest “regression” manhwas out there if not THE greatest and I’m more than ecstatic that it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves!
TRUE, It's so good :''')

Ep 1 - I'm back in the past? I know everything, I'll change the future.
Ep 20 - This didn't happen before, the future has changed. What do i do now?
Ep: 1 - Can't change too much or my knowledge will be useless
Ep: 20 - OH my god, shits different, who coulda guessed???
Ep:40 - Eh, who cares. The only thing I don't know is that one secret organization.

Yes, that shit is A+. Some of the best comedy you'll find, period.
Not a regression more or a guy reincarnates into a story, also peak comedy for the first 100 chapters, after that it is starting to be a it and miss
100% Argeed, it's such a good comedy manhwa that also has an interesting plot and well done serious moments
This and the The Return of the Mad Demon. I tried training like Itadori and not make a face: it's been 115 chapters! They are way too funny!

Murim arc being peak cannot be stated enough. It is genuinely PEAK
The title really does it no favours because most of the trash ones have the S/SS/SSS or more attached. Even in ORV the author takes the piss out of this by Dokja forging a book that has 6 S's as the title
Ch 12 was what got me hooked. Made me cry. (The orphan doll arc) that’s when I knew this one was different
SSS Class Sucide Hunter is actually shaping out to be a masterpiece. The range the author is willing to travel to shape every different arc in its own unique way is insane. The last two arcs had some of the best storytelling I have seen in fiction PERIOD.

ORV doesn't really fit here as it isn't a Regression anyway but Novel becoming Real which is an another Genre.
I'm so glad ORV is beginning to be recognized. As the manwha adapts more and more of the LN the art style keeps getting more and more insane.
Yeah, the design of the outer god and the art in the last chapter overall was mindblowing.

SSS Class Self-Undo Hunter is close second
It's because they offer something more than just power fantasy, and it's often not even the point
For me it was Tower of God
litrpgs is a sub subgenre lmao

Yup. I need Shadow Slave to get a graphic novel to animated series
Fellow progression fantasy reader here, it was tower of god, into SL and then a bunch of royal road progression fantasy stories for me
not even mentioning the subgenre titan that is Romance Fantasy is criminal
Omniscient Readers Viewpoint, Solo Levelling, The Beginning After the End, The Greatest Estate Developer, and SSS Class Revival Hunter are pretty much the 5 greatest manhwa of all time.
I particularly love ORV and The Greatest Estate Developer. They have so much heart and are cleverly written and have insane art

I was about to say, the greatness of Omniscient Reader not getting a mention is crazy... You had me in the first 9/10ths Garnt
True, the part describing the farmer boiling a tree bark for his starving children and then watching them throw it away, to him hitting them in his anger was THE peak of storytelling for me
@@Alexandr.A.P. It gets so much better one of if not the best manwha going on rn imo

The three most common story settings in manhwa's
- "Gates/dungeons, hunters/awakeners, and Monarchs/Constellations/deity"
- "Regressions/regressor"
- "Murim"
Often times, regression tends to be mixed with the other settings because having the main character go back in time is a really easy way to make a revenge story (and koreans fucking love their revenge stories)
Novel reincarnation/isekai is another big one
Also, regression is easy mode in justifying speedrun to OPness.

Some of my favorites are ORV, Room of Swords, Villains are Destined to Die, and The Fantasie of a Stepmother, but there are so many good ones it feels like I’ll never run out
Orv is not in regression side imo. More like Avatar/Constellation type of thing.
@@tsubakireimuch.8016 I kind of agree with you since technically Dokja didn’t regress, but since he approaches the story with knowledge of the future, especially future knowledge accumulated through a regressor’s POV, I still think it’s a fair way to categorize ORV.

The big difference is that Korean regression stories usually involve non-wimpy, properly adult MCs which are refreshing to see.
i mean really depends some characters in it are pure just some chad who can do no wrong and are always sane in their mental capacities.
maybe its just me trashing on the shitty manhwas but i love stories like orv, sss-suicide hunter where the mc is very level headed but breaks down when the odds are significantly stacked against em (both have to face impossible scenarios for orv he is saved because his plot armour is literally canon and sss can kill himself infinitely to get a perfect run)

Untouchable lady / Solitary Lady is such a great story which deserves to be animated
Hunt what?
I like how it feels like its not exactly pure strength that makes him succeed, but you really feel like its due to his planning and intelligence! All the characters are great and lovable, and I like how it explains why he doesnt use his "Original Power" more often for every thing
Yeah... Solo Max level Newbie was infuriating to read, MC was just a POS.
Is it the S-classes I have raised? because dang i miss the older chapters where the MC plays more of a guardian-role compared to a regressor's-role
Squad + Han Yoojin
Now add again The Greatest Estate Developer and we get The Cunning Five )
Here are some other good gems I have found, some of them are well known while others are not (sss class suicide hunter is S btw):
S:
Return of the Mount Hua Sect
The Greatest Estate Developer
Omniscient Readers Viewpoint
I Am The Sorcerer King
A returner's magic should be special (starts generic, but is good).
A+:
Duke Pendragon
Academy’s Undercover Professor
The Indomitable War King (very new, but promising).
Aire(seori).(Good art)
Those are the ones I can remember now, if anyone is interested in more I can research others and post them here as well.
Read Academy's Undercover Professor and Her Summon, they are unusual isekai manhwa's
I was surprise how much gigguk hinted at it at the beginning but never named dropped. Doom breaker is so good and the tension you feel in the panel especially in the more recent arcs.
I see ORV and Returner's magic in the S tier, I like, I check every other name in the list.

Because you actually see and understand what he sees and changes, thus explaining self growth to the reader, and letting yourself grow and accept your own life… or so I did and shared with friends and now we are uhh… “enlightenment” will be a good word, SSS is basically sharing with us ultimate peak enlightenment

i would also like to touch on the more ig feminine(?) side of the regression and isekai genre.
The dolls, the dolls make me cry every time
@@voilavoila196 one of my absolute favorites is called the villainess turns the hourglass!! this one is complete so its good to start with. you can find a lot of this genre by typing like “villainess” or something into the search bar.
a few other recs are;
villians are destined to die (VERY GOOD, pretty sad, made me cry a few times)
father i dont want this marriage (complete, one of my personal favorites)
the monstrous duke’s adopted daughter(complete)
my secretly hot husband (the title make it sound shallow but its actually pretty good if you give it a try, complete)
sacrificed (complete)
s class hunter doesnt want to be a villainous princess (newer, mc was completed the tower and was transported to another world)
most of these are romance and revenge type stories. id give you more recs but i dont keep track of everything i read so i hope these are okay!! enjoy reading ^
@@voilavoila196
I'd like to add a few to the above recommendations:
I Shall Master this Family (economic/political drama, heartwarming family stuff, romance)
The Soulless Duchess (revenge, fantasy, romance)
Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion (great beginner series; comedy, romance, also an anime!)
The Lady Needs a Break (reincarnation burnout, fantasy, romance)
Touch My Little Brother and You're Dead (comedy, lots of comedy, romance)
not all of these are actually regression, but they're very alike in genre, like isekai and reincarnation
and I 100% second Villains Are Destined to Die and The Villainess Turns the Hourglass, two of my favorites
The murim arc of SSS Suicide Hunter made me cry.
Omniscent Reader is a very good story.
There is also the novel A Regressor Tale Of Cultivation, which had me in tears.
Reincarnation stories are interesting as well, like The Return Of The Blossoming Blade, where the characters returns, but 200 years after their death.
every arc just hits so hard in the feels. the floor 21 gave me Edgerunner depression
Yeah, SSS is a good one
regressors tale of cultivation needs to update more tho ughh
Return to the mount Hua sect the most no cap.
YES SSS suicide hunter makes me hurt
and Omniscient reader is fucking great!
here's another you should try, Tomb Raider King, like it's fantastic and the ideas behind it are interesting as hell!
As someone who has already been into regression, isekai and whatever trash is put on the plate.
I suggest u to read so many of them till u can predict how the plot of every first chapter goes.
Yet you’ll still read chapter 1 anyway.
Read Academy's Undercover Professor and Her Summon, they are unusual isekai manhwa's
I’ve gotten to this point but every once in a while you find a gem in the rough. Surviving the game as a barbarian is the first isekai in a long while that actually surprised me, would recommend. Main character is actually smart and not op
@@volsss lol already did >:3
@@caziggy7455 oh, i was putting that one off actually, i was planning on watching that in the future.
Thank you ^v^
now read chinease cultivation shit
The murim arc in SSS-Class suicide hunter has one of the most beautiful philosophical dialogues i've ever consumed in manga/manhwa/manhua PERIOD.
yeah it's actually crazy that the Murim arc is just one part of the story, but manages to be better than most Murim stories in general.
I'm kind of half remembering what it was. Was it something about fearing a meaningless death? Or can you tell me the chapter number it starts at.
@@A.R.Shahan it starts at chapter 54 if you want to re-read it
@@A.R.Shahan i believe it starts at ch.54, ends at ch.79
@@Ms.Intoxicated thanks my guy.
Also it's honestly just gold if you've ever read a Manga, or a LN, or a Manhwa...lmfao...
I see your panels and that's ORV, one of the best manhwa novels out there with a fairly good manhwa comic adaptation. It definitely deserves its own video and I look forward to it.
I am waiting for your video analysis on ORV like an addict waiting for drugs. It’s a masterpiece
orv is like high quality cocaine
At the last chapter i even thought that every thing's gonna go downhill because of how good and wholesome everything is, good thing it didn't
I've read a lot of regression fiction and at a certain time it just blends together, but this was a real breath of fresh air.
Garnt, I discovered ORV because of a comment from the Solo Leveling video you made. Finished the novel after running out of the manhwa. That brainrot had infected me for two freaking years. I don't think any manhwa or media will ever hit me quite like this one did.
Lord of The Mysteries....
Brainrot? Dude how is ORV Brainrot?
@@averageguy7620 Lol???? Broken OP MC who already knows everything that is going to happen... If that isn't brainrot, what is? (Read manhwa -> caught up on LN btw, I DO know what I'm talking about) I'd say it's family diner manhwa, not exactly bad, its just very predictable, and this makes all the victories less impressive.
@@faranocks Ok this is a doozy I don't know how you got through the entire novel and still call it brainrot but I am still going to break your argument into parts and counter it.
1. "Lol???? Broken OP MC who already knows everything that is going to happen..."
How is he broken when there are literally countless people in his own verse with more broken abilities than him.
(Read manhwa -> caught up on LN btw, I DO know what I'm talking about)"
Even if you don't agree with my first point it doesn't make it brainrot. Even if you think the MC is broken and knows everything and it's too easy for him doesn't mean that the characters and the story is brainrot especially considering the story, mystery and characters are the best parts of ORV.
3. "I'd say it's family diner manhwa, not exactly bad, its just very predictable, and this makes all the victories less impressive."
how tf are the victories not impressive when the MC has to struggle countless times, has to use actually strategy to get out of bad situations and has to die multiple times for his companions when his knowledge of the events fail him?? Did you and I read the same novel??
Glad you finally found SSS class revival hunter.
The writer's range is absolutely phenomenal.
I first found it when the manhwa finished the 10th floor fight, and it was one of best written arcs I've ever read, even made me cry.
After that I rushed to read the novel, and was surprised to find that the manhwa pulled zero punches in the adaptation:
Basically every scene in the book made the transition, save for one right at the start, where the manhwa fails to make it clear that the MC spent a day figuring out what happened, while in the manhwa it seems like he immediately meets the flame emperor again.
Oh boy... Now we wait for the OtomeIsekai episode
I love the fact that I managed to recognize like 90% of the manwhas shown in the video
I’m looking forward to your ORV video, Gigguk!
8:55 man said worldbuilding and inserted ancient magus' bride bgm. World building in that anime is simply magnificent.
Is it good? I read some manga chapters and forgot about it. 😂

Take a walk on the girly side sometime, otome works in this space have their own spice. Those that got an anime:
- Tearmoon Empire: Antoinette (but not technically) gets a chance to undo the not-technically French Revolution.
