We start our visits with the Buddhist temple of Kandy Vihara with its large statue of the Buddha which has retained its local cachet and which attracts the fervor of the villagers who come to perform their devotions all day long. Finally, we go to a small study and conservation center for marine turtles. Indeed, the southwest coast of Sri Lanka is known to be a major stopover on the migratory routes of turtles in the Indian Ocean.
