Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you made it out safely! I think people don’t always take the waves seriously so it is important to raise awareness. Although we were in Dikwella for a few weeks already, we also had a horrendous experience with the rip current and almost didn’t make it out. Through the waves you could barely take a breath of air, the current would already pull you back and the second wave would drag you rights underwater. Over and over again, swimming uselessly 🥹 Luckily George managed to reach closer to shore where his feet was steady on the sand and turning back he managed to catch those few seconds between to waves and current to come and pull me out🙏 I’m a decent enough swimmer, but after so many tries to get out and always getting pulled back in, I was almost certain that would be my last day. Incredibly grateful to be alive! 💚🙏

Hi ! Friends, this is a wonderful vedeo about small beaches in southern Sri Lanka. You did this amazingly. Propose visit other areas of Sri Lanka there are so many beaches you can find. Good luck.
Spent 5 weeks In unatuwana last January ! Fantastic country! Lovely people! Fabulous sights! We are in our 70’s and always gone to Goa! The only thing is, the beaches are gorgeous, but the sea can be very rough at times! We saw a few near misses! Did all the safaris and sights to see! Loved it! Trouble is my hubby loves to talk and not many of our nationality there! loved it though!
Agreed, the rough sea is the only reason we don’t go back yearly, even for decent swimmers like we are, it can be risky (we had a near miss too in Dikwella) Other than that, everything is amazing in Sri Lanka, I miss it so bad!♥️💚
Thanks for your comment, please you liked it and hopefully it was helpful! The truth is we only spent 1-2 hours here and there in Hiriketiya (even though it was very close to us in Dikwella) It’s a nice beach with bars and restaurants, where people are learning to surf, and some days the water is so incredibly clear ♥️ It’s definitely worth a visit, we just didn’t enjoy that the sand stretch is of the beach is too narrow and there’s barely any free space. Unless you’re there too surf, we didn’t find it relaxing our anything special. We’re going back to the south coast tomorrow ☺️

We visit Sri Lanka in the next Winter time. We are thinking this time for 3 month. When we are landing in Colombo we drive this time to east side and drive to the west side. Our best thoughts for you for your dream to come true! When you will get here one day, you will love it so much. Anywhere you go in Sri Lanka, it is breathtaking!
Only on Dikwella beach we got bitten in the first week, we went there on a cloudy day and put our towel on the sand. Within 30 minutes we each had about 30 bites 😄 To be honest, after that we didn’t really sit on the sand anymore in Dikwella, this was our home base working remotely and we used to go to the beach to swim for an hour or so around 12pm and then again at sunset around 5pm.
We travelled to more beaches than we show here but these were our favorites at the time ☺️ Of course if we say Top 10 it will mean the Top 10 for us personally, we don’t hold the universal absolute truth 😁 Unawatuna Beach is nice, but we liked Mihiripenna more (just 10 mins of it)

@@roamaniacs Thank you so much for your help. I think the comment by "Single Journey In a Europe" is due to the lack of understanding about the whole picture of Sri Lanka. Despite some wanting to spread completely a negative picture about Sri Lanka at this critical moment, all Sri Lankans should thank foreign tourists very much for their positive thoughts about promoting Sri Lanka. You are welcome everywhere in Sri Lanka. We understand your difficulties due to the present situation in Sri Lanka. But I hope tourists still can enjoy what Sri Lanka can offer for tourists (landscape, beaches, culture, wildlife, historical monuments, etc). I hope the government will pay special attention to sustaining the tourism industry by especially providing what they need such as fuel, and electricity for tourist areas because that is one lifeline that we have at present to come out from the foreign currency crisis. Some do not understand If the tourist does not visit Sri Lanka, the situation will be much worse. In fact, this foreign exchange crisis come to the surface because the tourism industry collapsed due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The second issue was that Sri Lankans who work aboard stopped sending money through the banking system to Sri Lanka due to poor decisions of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. They selected unauthorized ways to send money that does not go to the government. The other big issue is the short-term foreign debt. The foreign crisis issue (i.e. spending dollars on imports {21 billion US$} approximately two times more than the export earnings {12 billion US$}) was there for five decades. But the government was able to cover the trade gap and foreign debt issue from the earnings of foreign remittances and the tourism industry. Thus, we as Sri Lankans salute you for your help by visiting Sri Lanka. In the short term, Sri Lanka can come out of this critical issue if the tourism industry can be resurrected as soon as possible. For that, promoting Sri Lanka by people like you is really helpful and very important. Of course, the government should address the long-term foreign currency issue that is due to the negative twofold trade gap since the 1980s and the foreign debt. Ruwan Dissanayake
