Thank you so much for this video. This is my entire childhood!! Drove over from Morgantown each Fall, my Mom and I. Then with the junior high and high school bands marching the parades. Firemen chicken and a handmade doll from a crafter was a great day at the Buckwheat Festival......and hoped the goldfish made it home! Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video, all the folks with their personal homemade food such as the hot chips, corn dog’s, pop corn and the 90 yr old lady who makes those incredible lollipops, the whole festival is homey and heartfelt.
Here in Aus we call these show’s, every year it travels to each state I believe it starts in Sydney, then Brisbane to Melbourne and Adelaide I think last ?
Anyway when it’s in Sydney it’s called The royal Easter show because it’s always during Easter and the school holidays.
The Brisbane show is called The Ekka, Melbourne is the Royal Melbourne show.
There’s all kinds of thing’s, cake displays and competition, art and crafts, fruit and vegetable displays which they make pictures from the fruit each farmer is at their stand display and they’ll chat to you.
you can ask about their fruits.
There’s the farm yard animals to feed, a dog show and competition, side show alley where the rides and prize games are.
There’s the arena which has horse riding and motorbike jumping or some type of show.
At the end every night there’s an awesome fireworks display.
Oh and hundreds and hundreds of show bags of every kind you could possibly think of.
We have tomato sauce on the corn dogs and hot chips.
The hamburger and icy frozen drink would be no less than $10 each here maybe more !!!
The chicken dinner at least $20, which looked delicious 😋 I wish ( I could have )
They even have cattle and sheep which are judged and rated, farmer’s travel from all over to bring their stock to these show’s we have in Australia 🇦🇺
It takes all day and into the night walking to see everything and try all the goodies.
The Ekka is known for the strawberry 🍓 ice cream cones.
It has been cancelled 2 years in a row due to Covid the destroyer.
Show holders decided to bring the show to the streets so they set up the food vans and people came from all over the suburbs and bought show food and the strawberry ice creams.
The strawberries would have gone to waste as the show this year was cancelled only in the matter of a week or so before it was to commence.
Seeing the prime and high school and area growing up in was fantastic love these types of video’s the best.
The area looked as though it would have been free and fun to be a kid.

Kingwood was a safe town to grow up but just not alot of stuff to do. This Festival was the Highlight of our youth every year. I didn't show the barn with all the animals and they are judged just like they are in Australia. Used to have major bands come in and play so it was very big for this small town. I bet you guy’s have seen a few, I have too but I don’t want to show off lol.
Though I did miss seeing a lot of the great hard rock ones only one’s I did see were Aerosmith, AC/DC, Mick Jagger solo ( with the Rolling Stones ) Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd twice ( All at the Melbourne tennis centre when it was first built ) U2 with BB king, Phil Collins,
Kiss in qld, Extreme in St Kilda Melbourne, Silverchair at the palace in St kilda, it’s a few I can’t remember anymore lol.
Though just about every Aussie rock band there was.
Oh INXS too, when I was 13 I first went to the Myer Music Bowl, it was called they’d be a music festival called rock toner throughout October, Australian band’s would play non stop. They had rides too one year, my friend and I watched as a ride called the turbo, well one of the carriages fell from the ride, I thought of this immediately when you mentioned suicide night ( obviously 🙄 they didn’t have one of those beforehand )
The ride is pretty much the same as the zipper though with round carriage’s.
Which by the way I think the zipper is a cruel ride it shocked 😳 me for life with rides lol )
Anyway after witnessing this I didn’t go on any rides they had at the Rocktober festival.
Thankyou so much for telling me about you growing up in Preston.
Oh there’s a suburb in Melbourne city called Preston and there’s the best Market ever ( went a few times with our mum, old school different cultures like the Greeks and Italians would have the best produce you ever have the opportunity to buy ) it’s simply called the Preston Market.
I’ll share some information about Australia as I watch your video’s.

Another great video 👍 I love these state fairs we have nothing like them in England. We always put vinegar on fries in England. The food looked good loverly to see John's home town .I love arts and crafts .
America is allowing us to travel there from England from November so hopefully next year we will be able to travel to the USA.

Wonderful, we enjoyed it so much brought back so many memories o us, we tried to be there but Covid sent us back to Maryland, but you brought the festival to us. Wow. What a happy surprise to see you guys watching this. Made my day. You and your family were like my own family growing up. Joe and I were like brothers. Think of him all the time still and always look over when I drive by the Cemetery. He would be in some of these vlogs if he were still with us making them even more special. One of the last times I saw Joe he kissed me on the cheek and told me he loved me. I laughed and pushed him away but today I cherish that memory. Wow! I can't tell you how much I want to go to this fair! I went to fairs like this with my Dad when I was a child, he love the lunches made by local church groups and fire Departments. I enjoyed seeing John's high school. I liked Bobbie's coat, its really pretty. Another great job.

Whenever I order a half a chicken. I always request for the chicken to be pre cut in 2 quarters. Makes it so much easier to eat and then it is also easy to take home any leftovers as well.
Never done that. That's probably a good idea . That chicken from the festival was really good. 😎😎

When we lived in Wv the carnivals and festival's I could ride all those rides but i was younger then. I don't live in Wv any longer had to move no work. Live in Fl now. The food looked Great. I Loved the quilts.. Put your Elvis glasses on...

This festival looks amazing. Might need to consider tending one year and visitng my great grandparents birth place in tucker co which shows to be an hour away. I already love WV esp Woodbine.

What a wonderful place. I love going to the fairs and festivals. And I love buying the food from the fire department and church food stands, they have the best tasting food. Corn dogs are awesome. I don't get those often enough. The ducks in the duck pond game are too close together. Hard to win there. I really wanted to see you win something Bobbie.

Just now seeing this. My parents have a manager set- smaller one for under the tree. It’s gotta be 40-50 years old. It’s made of olive wood from the holy land. It’s gorgeous and is still like brand new.
I bet it is beautiful. We bought a few of the Christmas ornaments from this gentleman for our kids.😎😎

The buckwheat festival started in October 1938. They have in it the snow rain or sunny outside but 2020 was the first in it's history that they did not have it because of covid. Hopefully this year more people will be able to go to the festival. Thanks for watching 😎😎

Not sure the music was loud. I use you tube music at a low volume if you listen close to mess up the you tube copyright checker. I do this alot in our videos where music is playing that's why sometimes our voices are low because I'm running another song under us. Now you know our secret lol

My wife's mother grew up in Kingwood Preston County WV and her sister still lives there and works at the Buckwheat Festival Selling Buckwheat Pancakes for the Church. Do you recall Coach Knight? My wife and her mother have been to the Buckwheat Festival many times.
Yes I played for Coach Knight in the 80's. He was my defensive coach at Central Preston. We went to the State Playoffs back then. Great person and good coach. Coach Knights wife was also so very nice. Kingwood is where I grew up. There and Ohio. Small world. 😎😎

We have never been to the New River Gorge National Park. It is a nice fair. We live about 40 minutes for John's home town.😎😎
