"Mayhap her cloying perfume hath made thee forget the stench of our brood-sister's lifeblood!" Give a medal to whoever wrote this. It's a simple line, but damn.
You notice Hraesvelgr's expression completely change in the moment after that too. He goes from taking on his brother to fulfil an oath to genuinely wanting Nidhogg dead in like a second.
@@elodiealaya I mean, he was talking shit about his waifu and if the internet has taught me one thing, it's that you don't talk shit about someone's waifu without starting a flame war.
Damn I'm a lalafell and let me tell you, that scene where you collect the eye is significantly less badass-looking when you're a tiny gnome creature in suspenders.
The parallels of Hresvelgar initially giving the eyes to Nighogg to start his revange and later entrusting the same eye to the player to end this hatred shows how far his character has come, this scene is a masterpiece
Also the fact that the Dragonsong War started with Thordan coveting the power of Dragons and murdering Ratatoskr to take her Eyes, only for it to end with the Warrior of Light willingly returning Hraesvelgr's Eye with no reservations. It's a symbolic bookend. It begins with a theft and it ends with a willing return. It also speaks to the character of the Warrior of Light, and why they're the kind of person Ramuh, Midgardsormr, and others judge to be capable of bringing lasting peace. They're not chained by the greed in mankind's heart: the root of the Dragonsong War, the Garlean conquests, and so many other conflicts.
This was up to date most epic scene in FFXIV for me.The music, the fight and whole build up was great and as an ex WoW player that i have no regrets transfering from WoW to FFXIV.
I literally cried the first time I got to this point. Such an epic battle until Nidhogg tears his wing off, only for the eye to appear in front of you. Can’t see it with a helmet on, but as the character walks forward, they have a look saying something like let’s just end this, or that they’re sad that they have to kill another dragon. It’s a beautiful way to end a patch!
and Bahamut, that is the true Bahamut comes in and everyone shits themselves. Bahamut handles his shit brother and snorts , " Never hath i seen such a puny progeny of our father, your hate hath consumed you Nidhogg. That means thou my brother. You who would see the cycle continued, how doth that honor our sisters memory? Come, face me oh tainted wyrm....and i shall show the difference between rage and peace! Either him or Tiamat and if Tiamat broke her chains... everything would stop and turn to the very area of Azys La like....oh hell....
The ones in FFIV are references to mythology, as Final Fantasy is fond of doing. Hraesvelgr is a giant eagle-like monster from Norse mythology, and Nidhogg is the name of the great serpent/dragon that gnaws on the roots of the World Tree Ygdrassil.
Final fantasy’s dragons always seemed weird to me. Nidhogg looks like he’s carved out of stone, Hraesvelgr looks like a mutated version of the dragon from never-ending story, shinryu looks like a giant robot and bahamut looks like he has serious backproblems.
I think Nidhogg said it best. He had been fighting for a thousand years straight while Hraesvelgr was sitting and being depressed. That counts for something.
Had it been the Hraesvelgr before he met Saint Shiva, he would've remained superior. But on the other hand, this also means he would've sided with and fought alongside his brother when he waged his war with Ishgard in revenge for Ratatoskr's murder.
Man coming back to ff14 after only getting to several quests before this just hit different. Remembering the story still and kid me wanting to play this fully felt heroic. My character looked like an elegant angel walking up to the eye. Kudos to everyone in charge of this entire scene, development, and the music to play perfectly in queue as I got to stand across Nidhogg building up the energy to fight him.
I never saw this, and I specifically didn't skip cutscenes for Dragonsong trials, raids, or dungeons to make sure I saw this cutscene, and I still haven't seen it and I'm on post-Stormblood quest now.
I absolutely love this scene so much. The ending of it where the main char steps forth and absorbs the eye while everyone including the dragons are just staring at them is phenomenal
What Metsuri said. It's possible that Hraesvelgr's raw power was stronger, but Nidhogg's shade was bolstered by his sheer hatred and over a millennia of combat, while his brother had spent that time essentially being a brooding hermit. Strength alone wouldn't cut it, as Nidhogg's resolve to destroy every trace of Ishgard could only be overcome by the stubborn tenacity of the Warrior of Light to free their friend and stop the Dragonsong War once and for all.
Think there's 2 ways to get it. One is doing hunts and trading in the coins at the ishgard hun where the drk knight quest is located or just do the lvl 60 drg quest if you haven't done it yet and it will give you the armor coffer :0
0:57-1:10 Nidhogg: YOUR WAIFU IS SHIT BROTHER!
Hraesvelgr: That's it, I'm gonna beat your punk ass!
At the risk of making a joke in poor taste:
Hraesvelgr: KEEP MY WIFE'S NAME OUT YO FUCKIN' MOUTH.
And then you sat there for 30+ minutes because you were queueing as a DPS

If I'm remembering correctly, Nidhogg and Hresvelgr are actually references to the Shadow and Mist Dragons from FF4.
The ones in FFIV are references to mythology, as Final Fantasy is fond of doing. Hraesvelgr is a giant eagle-like monster from Norse mythology, and Nidhogg is the name of the great serpent/dragon that gnaws on the roots of the World Tree Ygdrassil.

what a cool fight
it felt like alexstrasza vs deathwing but more brutal
This was my favorite scene in heavensward. Such a powerful hitting scene it was. Brothers fighting each other.
God that walk towards Nidhogg with the level 60 AF gear is so fucking badass
One of the best cutscenes of FFXIV, the music build up to 5:28 was perfect and you will be listening to the dragonsong even when queue-ing
The sad bit about this is that Hraesvelgr was the superior of the two Nidhogg only won by borrowing Estenien's strength and own rage to himself.
I think Nidhogg said it best. He had been fighting for a thousand years straight while Hraesvelgr was sitting and being depressed. That counts for something.

What sort of language did the voice actors use for the dragons?
I think its a made up language
It's a language made specifically for the dragons.
I meant what Languages did they mix, that usually how you make up a language
Sounded kinda Norse or Germanic. Which would make sense, given their names.
Sounds like Enochian to me. Look up for Bayonetta, Bosses in that game mainly spoke similar to this too.
Thanks for uploading this. I got rekt by a 90001 error right when it was getting to the good part and couldn't rewatch.

way too much epic

I absolutely love this scene so much. The ending of it where the main char steps forth and absorbs the eye while everyone including the dragons are just staring at them is phenomenal
does anyone know what variation of dragonsong plays during the beginning?
After so many years, the Dragonsong war is still the best story in FFXIV.
Is Frannie still online?
with lala it looks much more epic... the eye is almost as big as you.
So, is Nidhogg stronger or Hraesvelgr?
No so much strength as he's been at war for 1000 years so he has more experience which he says himself during the battle.
What Metsuri said. It's possible that Hraesvelgr's raw power was stronger, but Nidhogg's shade was bolstered by his sheer hatred and over a millennia of combat, while his brother had spent that time essentially being a brooding hermit. Does anyone know the song name in the background when their both fighting
I know this comment is ancient, but just in case you're still wondering (or anybody else is): Primogenitor is the name of the song.
Frannie is online.
What’s the song that start at 1.53
Dragonsong
01:53?
*Progenitor*
This was amaaaaaaaaaazing
What is the name of this song? It's so good!
The name before and after the battle is Dragonsong. Mid-battle is Primogenitor.
What's the song that plays at 2:30? I cant find it anywhere
It's called Primogenitor, it's part of Midgardsormr's Theme, used in the boss fight of Keeper of the Lake
