And by techincality inquisitor saber was showned first in the series (In new canon. Inquisitor saver appeared in 2014 while Kylo was in 2015.) There propably was saber with guard before in Legends canon, but I didn't went deep enough there to know for sure.
I feel like the biggest problem with Inquisitor lightsabers is not having the auto spin. Basically the use of them is to have the functionally of a dual bladed saber, but yet you don’t need to be as masterful with it as you would a normal Dual Bladed Saber. Without the auto spin, YA YRASH

Personally, I don’t see any beauty in this design, but I do see huge flaws that turn a very skill-demanding weapon into garbage and a suicide choice. PS: In all fantasy books, the authors always make fun of the aristocracy, which gives preference to status weapons decorated with jewelry and engraving instead of reliable and convenient weapons. And readers accept this attitude as something undeniably correct. But at the same time, in real life, these same people are delighted and want to own an impractical toy that cannot boast of anything other than its rather controversial appearance.
Now I’m imagining a Jedi in the imperial era finding an abandoned inquisitor light saber and healing the kyber crystal to use as his new lightsaber after his last one broke or something
Honestly I would want lightsaber with a hand guard like made lightsaber resistant metal like beskar or something and then combine it with form 2 would make a fierce duelist.

Those sabers look cool, but the issue is that double sided sabers are already handicapped in a defensive sense. You need to be super aggro to make up for that. That hilt...sure you can spin your blade super fast...but it actually serves more to hinder your general abilities with it. It hampers defense, which it's already deficient at, and it makes it difficult to turn your wrists, and grip. That makes it more difficult than normal to deliver a solid strike, making your offense suffer as well. All in all, imo, those sabers are decoration only. Single blade is fine, double le is fine, but I won't use one that has that ring on it
Inquisitors lightsaber COULD be good, but as shields, the spinning can be good for defense,but as it was shown,your hand is exposed and the space between the your hand the saber can be used against you. So how i would make it work? No single blade (as we are focusing on the defense) but just the helicopter mode, then in front of where the hand is placed i'd put a basket-like plate (a basket as in those used in some tipes of fencing swords) of lightsaber-resistant material (either Beskar or Cortosis) this way you can keep your hand forward holding the helicopter-like shield in front of you without any risk, and as the helicopter mode thins out the space of the handle to be held one hand is all you really need and can hold it with, which gives you the possibility to use in one hand another lightsaber or lightsaber pike (or if you dont follow the "force sensitives dont use blasters" BS) you can use one while hoding behind the shield.
