I was born in 1969 on Oahu. Life was beautiful. Neighbors were family. Playing football on street and riding our bikes was the way we passed our time.

This is a British Pathe film with a redone American English voiceover, simply reading the same original narration by a British announcer.

I was born in the early 80s, but I would have loved to see Hawaii in the 60s!

I was born in the early 30's. You should have seen how Honolulu was and Oahu for that matter.

@@phillynott1060 As a poor kid, I didnit travel much, but where I was born near the mouth of Kalihi Stream, it was all country side and fish ponds. The Oahu Prison Farm also took up a lot of space. Then there are the railroad tracks. It was a paradise for kids. Oahu was mainly pineapple and sugar cane fields, when my father took me on trips around the island. I remember stopping along the highway near Mokapuu Point to pick guavas.

@@howellwong11 It sounds like a very tropically beautiful place, I can't imagine being able to stop at the side of the road to pick a fruit which is so incredibly rare in the country live in. It sounds like a paradise for everyone. How is it these days?

1:12 -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumpei_Akaji - Bumpei Akaji's sculpture, "Birds Aloft" (Ala Moana (Shopping) Center) - 1966 (credit: wikipedia); 1:29 - Sea Life Park; 2:24 - the iLiKai Hotel in Waikiki, which is still there (much like the Sea Life Park (a major tourist attraction).

"...Life is as modern as anything else in 20th century America. Local architecture adds its own vernacular charm to the skyscraper elegance of the big city skyline...here in the great expanse of the Pacific, an island community has every convenience of big city life..."

They really messed up Ala Moana shopping center. I remember all the koi ponds in the middle of the mall.

Hawaii has become way over developed ! it's lost its Hawaiianess and becoming homogenized with every other city in the world

Based on the cars I’d say late 60’s is when it was filmed.

Is this really the 60's? This sort of looks like the 70's because of how modern it looks for 1960's Hawaii. And if this is the 60's is this the late or mid 60's?

It seems that the year was 1967. This British Pathé newsreel proves it: ua-cam.com/video/1ODk2RQqFjg/v-deo.html .
