Excellent tips. Am so glad I came across this when I injured my ankle badly. How the injury happened: I missed a step at the train station and fell on my ankle with my full body weight - either I had twisted my foot which made me miss the step or I missed the step and twisted the foot while falling - not sure what the sequence was. I was in excruciating pain for 10-15 mins and had to sit exactly where I fell before attempting to stand and limp my way to the nearest bench.

About 6/7 weeks ago I turned my left foot under while hitting uneven ground in my back-yard. Started icing it as soon as I made it into the house. It was bad. Used a walker, crawled up and down steps(on my butt). As of now, I can still feel pain in those areas, but am careful when walking. Not a fun thing. I'm 61 and in very good shape, but this kicked my butt pretty good!

Great Job! Finally, a video that shows actual time it takes for the ankle to heal. However, there is a lot of misconception about whether or not you should rest your ankle for the full heal of the ligaments or try to work it out as soon as possible. Some say, that you need to fully let it heal before you start rehab, because otherwise the ligaments gets weak and loose and you are more likely to sprain it again and/or develop a chronic instability. Does anyone who has experience and knowledge can clarify this? Sprained my ankle a good week ago (probably grade 1) for probably 3rd or 4th time while playing basketball. Last time before this, I had a severe sprain like 10-12 years ago (spent like 6 weeks in a boot) and had no problems after rehab and recovery. I'm, now getting nervous that maybe after 3 or 4 times the damage of the ligaments are so bad, that maybe I need some surgery to fix the ligaments, which might help me to feel more confident and calm when I get old. Because I don't want to be unable to do sports because of it when I'm 50-60, you know. I'm 34 now. Should I be worrying about my ankle sprains (if it's not grade 3 and I don't feel it to be unstable or excessively weak? 🙂
This occurred last Saturday about 2300 hours, I sprained my right ankle walking. I stepped up on a sidewalk that was not even with the yard. My right ankle rolled forward and inward. At the time it happened I was going after a suspect in a case we were investigating as he was walking away from me. It was dark and crowd with people. Anyway, I felt it hurt as I went down but came right back up. Afterwards, I had to hobble out of the area and eventually everything calmed down. I had to wait almost an hour before I could get to the ER. X-ray didn't show any breaks, they put me in a boot. Its still super tight around the front ankle and i have bruising about 8" up along my outer leg from the ankle. ATFL? Now, I can walk slowly w/o pain. Ortho appt is on Tuesday. I think the braces you advertise may help me in my recovery, I'm going to order one now? Should I order two?

Great video man. Thank you. Sprained my ankle 3 days ago running on a trail stepping on a stump. I'm not sure if I am a grade one two or three yet, but because of your great advice and pictures I think I'm a grade 2. I went to the local urgent care, but will try to see a podiatrist. It would be nice to see pictures in your video of the different grades which I assume can be based on swelling. Either way I just got an x-ray, and they're checking for broken bones.

I will try the brace you showed in the video but right now I only got a simple brace (like 4:32) & tape, do u think using brace is better than taping? When I was in my early 30’s that I did sprained my right ankle or left that I fell down but, I did get backed up quickly. It is harder for me now these days.
What I would like to know is that I am 4 months from my right ankle but I take no medication. My right ankle suffered a slight fracture, I was given a walking boot, 6 weeks then the fracture healed. However as my right ankle twisted and stayed trapped inside my left trouser leg, whilst falling down the stairs... So no matter what i have been doing... nothing is helping... exercising Capsicum creams As I also did the same {no fracture} 20 years ago... I am now using Castor oil...on this injury.. Some people say it’s better to start walking asap (after 72 hours of resting of course) and some people say it’s required to rest it and use crutches for even 3-4 weeks lol. I’m confused, I’ve sprained my ankle 5 days ago and I am afraid to walk without limp… My foot is not swollen anymore but the bruising gets worse every day, should I try to walk normally?
I’ve always carried on walking after spraining my ankle never had any long term issues. Sometimes been able to walk the pain off straight away sometimes takes a day or 2. I just walk best I can without making the pain unbearable. Once I did sprain it very badly jumping of something with my foot at an angle so I landed on outside of my foot which twisted my foot inwards. After that I couldn’t walk normally. I had to walk on my toes on that foot but even that only took about a week to heal. Sprained my ankle yesterday but of pain walking. I can stand on that leg but when walking it hurts a bit but after walking a bit today it’s easing off now. So give walking a try see how it feels as long as it doesn’t get worse you should be ok.
Did you have any bruising? I heard crackling sound when mines happened but it wasn’t a big swollen ankle nor was their any bruising. I did hurt to rotate my foot the same way I twisted it. How long did you take to walk on it a little?
Aloha, ok I need a bit of advise please, long story short, 3 months ago I fell on top of a mountain and rolled my right foot, got to hospital and after x-ray found that I had broke a bone in my foot, stretched a ligament and tore a main tendon so as you can imagine, very painful, been in a cast, on crutches, and walking in a high boot but even after 10 weeks. I'm in serious pain, still can't walk without boot or without crutch, my foot can't move left or right without my pain level going through the roof, please help! I've seen some great advice from your videos but I'm not sure what I should be doing to heal quicker
Instead of walking without a boot put as much weight on it as u can and once ur able to balence on it then start walking without the boot u can use crutches to balence while bearing the weight on ur bad foot
same here. I tried traditional Filipino way, where it was massaged . Now it no longer hurts that much butnim scared to walk on it,or even put weight on it

6 wks ago a terrible sprain. I’ve been casted with under cast and full walker over. I couldn’t put full weight until 5 weeks. Now I can walk and want to built back the muscle. I’m worried about reinjuring. What a mess. I’m 71 and very active. So stretching seems very important.
I slipped while walking and got sprain in my right leg. It's been 12 days since I am on a complete bed rest. I did icing, elevated my leg, worebrace on and off. Now no pain and swelling. But just can't walk. I feel sting sensation while I try to walk or put weight on my led. Pls help
I can't even walk on it right now because of pain, and my parents won't take me to a doctor and won't let me stay home, so im forced to walk on it at school.
I suffered a grade 3 high and low ankle sprain. I finished my basketball game and I walked on it the moment I rolled it. It was the worst people have ever seen but I worked full time, consistently stood on my feet. Experienced some pain but overall I’m no bitch. I believe tendons and ligaments grow stronger without braces and crutches
@@elisif0319 I have an unorthodox way of thinking. I sprained my ankle 4 times within the summer of 2016 and since then. With similar healing methods of just walking through the pain. My ankle has gotten stronger since. I am now a month and a week since my ankle sprain this time around and I can dunk again in basketball and I’m a 6’1 white guy lol. Drink a lot of water, stretch your ankle as much as possible as it’s healing, take minimal pain medication, walk on it as early as possible. Take breaks if needed but personally for me I’ve literally went mind over matter at times and worked through some pain. Ankle is good to go now :)
I rolled by left ankle ; dark out on curb ! I fell flat down; got up got my coffee and walked home 3 blocks; still walked to work for 4 hrs, Today 4 days can walk Just slowly! Stretch and massage ankle!

Sargam, we would love to be able to give you a more specific answer, but unfortunately we cannot do so. These are very complex medical problems that do require specific evaluation in both physical and imaging modalities. Please see again a podiatrist near you for further evaluation.
Its been 3plus weeks. And i still cant put weight or use my foot. Is this normal?
3 years ago I’m still have Feel the pain my ankle twisted I can’t walk 3 min straight after that it hurts
I missed a step on the stairs and twisted it and the outside of it hurts and it when I walk it pains me so what should I do?
Just try to keep walking
same here. I tried traditional Filipino way, where it was massaged . Now it no longer hurts that much butnim scared to walk on it,or even put weight on it

@@DrTomBiernacki 17 hours later the swelling has gone down by 75 percent Im able to move my ankle up and down . Still discomfort when in certain angles. But gonna wait another day before trying to walk
I just sprained my ankle yesterday and it is swollen and hurts over a small rock
i got plantar fasciitis/tendonitis in my feet, so i went to the podiatrist who reccomended me orthotics and high arch shoes. turns out those two things overcorrected something that didnt need correcting, and it sprained my ankle. now ive got tendonitis and a sprain. sigh. orthotics are NOT for everyone!!
Yoga for foot, you can even do it in bed or couch.
I slipped while walking and got sprain in my right leg. It's been 12 days since I am on a complete bed rest. I did icing, elevated my leg, worebrace on and off. Now no pain and swelling. But just can't walk. I feel sting sensation while I try to walk or put weight on my led. Pls help
I sprained my ankle playing basketball an played on it the next day could that cause problems because it’s still a little swollen 3 weeks later
Hope you feel better soon!
Phoebe this is the part where your suppose to reply “thanks douche” jk
Please help me.... my chelse boot is loose around my ankle... i searched so much but there is no solution for this... pls help
Just dont use it and you will still heal just as fast
Hope you feel better soon!
Dont use the boot
Be careful with this advice, a severe injury may require protection for sure. Always see a doctor before making a treatment decision
While a boot doesn't necessarily make healing time faster, it can really help in preventing further injury. always get evaluated if concerned
I can't even walk on it right now because of pain, and my parents won't take me to a doctor and won't let me stay home, so im forced to walk on it at school.
i sprained my ankle in PE today💀 atleast its holy week next week😇
I hurt my ankle playing basketball in crocs 😒

@@RandomFrogg My pleasure friend that I made your day ♥
i sprained my ankle during my tennis match lol
Ouch, good luck!
Hey, can you give more details on your injury/what you did for healing? We’re you not afraid of making your injury worse?
@@Higherthanozone Every person is different. Generally what you did would be so much dangerous for others.
I sprained my ankle about 1 month ago and went to physician and he told me I dont have any broken bones. I want to start playing sports but my ankle is still swallowed. I have been icing everyday, wearing a brace too. So if you can help
Sargam, we would love to be able to give you a more specific answer, but unfortunately we cannot do so. These are very complex medical problems that do require specific evaluation in both physical and imaging modalities. Please see again a podiatrist near you for further evaluation.
We would be doing you a disservice with general advice for such an important issue. Your podiatrist or primary care doctor can likely help much more than we can in this instance.
