I can relate to some of your choices The Who, Kiss, Korn but I nearly fell off my chair when you put Thin Lizzy in. I was screaming no....😱. Then again maybe that's because I'm Irish and always had soft spot for Phil Lynott and the boys. If I was to pick a single song that would make me want to smash up my radio I would have to choose 'Butterfly Kisses' by Bob Carlisle with anything by Chicago not far behind. Even thinking about them is sending me on a downer😉

I actually lived in Ireland for 3 months about 2 years ago... my wife and I loved it and are very fond of Ireland. And, I do feel my hate lessoned a bit due to the Irish connection... but that's the thing when it comes to music, art and beauty... everyone has different tastes. :)
Oh yeah.. Chicago could have made my list if I would have remembered them! :D

    • @ProfDanielVargas
      @ProfDanielVargas 7 місяців тому +1

@@AlmostReady504 well, sometimes it's not being snobbish but the fact that everyone has a different taste in music.
You could argue bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones or The Ramones or Sex Pistols or N.W.A. or Sugarhill Gang or any other artist from any genre who were first to their music scene were revolutionary, pioneers or trailblazers, with a lot or certain things or whatever, but there's always people who won't be attracted, feel inspired or called by their music no matter how "great" or "cool" they are, but it's OK, everyone has their likes and dislikes and preferences.
If anything, I'd say that caring about what others think or feel about a band or saying/thinking they're wrong for not admiring, liking or caring about a band is way more snobbish, if you ask me.

@IStillWanttobeaRockStar I love the Jailbreak album which features The Boys Are Back In Town but I song I particularly love off that album specifically for a very tasty run (is Angel From The Coast). It mightn't be your cup of tea but check out this cover ua-cam.com/video/Z-3ptVvWrAk/v-deo.html (Specifically the lick around 01:55-01:58). Sometimes it's good to play songs you don't particularly like. You always learn something no matter what it is. Saw the latest post. Keep her lit (as they say in N. Ireland)

What got me into The Who was their performance on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus concert of "A Quick One While He's Away." I have been getting more into their music as of late (particularly their 1970s music). I understand your opinions on The Stones and KISS, but honestly, I don't care for The Rolling Stones' early music, however, their music with Mick Taylor on into the 1970s was their peak in my opinion. For KISS their first album is my favorite, I am mainly into their music from the 70s and definitely not as much the 80s.

I'm on board with most of what you said. Foo Fighters first album rocked. The rest, na. The Aerosmith you talked about was from the 70s. Up to Done With Mirrors they were good but after that the only thing I liked was Monkey On My Back off of Pump. Like you I don't like poppy dance music except for maybe the Police. The Who, try Quadrophinia, Live at Leeds, Tommy. Oh yeah, watch The Kids are Alright. That will make you a fan. Wasn't a fan of Kiss until a roommate lent me a copy of Kiss Alive 2. Great live rock band. The Rolling Stones, wasn't fan until I had to admit they wrote great tunes. Stray Cat Blues is a great one. Thin Lizzy, always liked their popular songs. Saw them live back in like 1978 or something. I noticed you left out Bon Jovi. 😆

    - I really don’t have a strong opinion about Dinosaur Jr. but “Feel the Pain” is a killer track with a blistering guitar solo.
    - Foo Fighters suck, with the exception of the debut which was basically just a Dave Grohl solo project.
    - Dookie is a great album but Green Day never was never able to match it again.
    - The Rolling Stones should’ve retired after Some Girls.

None on this list really surprise me and I agree with most of them. I am however a KISS fan. Having said that, they do have issues. I can't honestly say that they're good song writers but I'd say they're decent musicians. The early stuff is fantastic and Ace Frehley rocks on guitar. He has a sloppy style but it works for him. Aerosmith had some great music too back in the 70's but yeah after that hiatus and coming back in the 80's, ouch, that stuff they've been coming out since then is irritating! I completely agree about the Rolling Stones though. I consider them to be a one trick pony that's been making the same exact music for decades!

I love the comment about Richard Simmons!😂 You touched on it a bit, but I think something to consider is some of these bands old material versus the newer stuff. It could be a super long conversation, but I think a lot of bands are just rawer and hungrier when they’re young. And when they get to be old and are multimillionaires, the music is different. I had a friend who absolutely hated Aerosmith, but I played the album “Toys in the Attic,” from front to back one night when we were partying, and he changed his mind immediately, lol. I love Kiss, Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, etc. But it’s mostly their early albums. I would check out the Foo Fighters first album and Kiss Alive one. I also think when you first get into a band is very influential. I got into Kiss when I was about nine years old, and it had such an impact that that sticks with me. But I can totally see why somebody who checked them out later in life wouldn’t have the same feeling towards them. Also, there are songs and even albums by Kiss that I don’t like at all. So that’s another interesting thing. I think it’s possible to love a band and still not like all of their material. Fun stuff to talk about, though! Comes up quite often with me and my students. 😁

Gotcha on almost all of them. We're probably showing our age here... AGREED - 1) The Stones, after almost almost half a century, have produced a handful good to very good songs with one ot two being great, 2) Kiss was great when I was 14, then at 15 I learned to ignore marketing and peer pressure and discovered Elton, Zeppelin, Yes, ELP, Purple, Floyd, Queen and Renaissance,. DISAGREE - 1) The Who were a bit erratic, but what was good was really good to fantastic. Forget Tommy, listen to Quadrophenia. 3) Aerosmith, IMHO, was the best of the 2nd generation of rock bands (forget about Styx and Journey). The catch there was having no shame by bringing in current songwriters during their comeback period.

It's easier for me to name musicians/bands I dislike. I love all kinds of music, blues, rock, R&B, progressive jazz and singer/songwriters. I may get sh*t for this. Musicians/bands I dislike: John Melonballs (Mellencamp); Hair bands (Poison, Cinderella); Bruce Springsteen because his voice annoys me, although I like a few songs; Korn; Slipknot. Those are a few I change my radio station when I here them. OK I was 13 in 1970. I love early Aerosmith "Toys In The Attic" "Get Your Wings" are great albums. Hate Kiss and Twisted Sister. Twisted Sister gigged in local bars where I grew up. My sister in law wanted me to hear them so I did. Not impressed. However a wasted guy kept tapping me on the shoulder. He asked "Do you want to see an ice cube disappear?" Before I could answer, he placed an ice cube on the bar. He then dropped his pants completely, jumped up and sat on the ice cube!! I was speechless. Rolling Stones! I was a Stones fan as a teen. Their albums prior to "Some "Girls" are fantastic! Foo Fighters was my fav band for years. After I heard the first cd Dave Grohl made mostly by himself, I was hooked. "X Static" my fav from it. I play piano, used to play drums and ended up a singer in bands and acoustic gigs for years. Missed a HUGE opportunity, but did get to record in A&R studio in NYC.
Note: Although I never got into punk, Bad Nerves song "Can't Be Mine" is a fav. Just heard Dirty Honey's new song "Coming Home". The chord choices and melody gave me goosebumps! If you agree, I've listened to music constantly since I was 7 and know a lot of great tunes. lol

Genes buffoonery has been the problem with that band. Kiss condoms, kiss caskets. He's made that band a joke. Agreed, I agree with a lot of your assesment:
-Korn (I spent a lot of time trying to figure them out and their deeper meaning, and other similar bands like Slipknot, spoiler: there wasn't any, and trying to get to like them and get into them so bad, looking past the mainstream and shock value of their act, now I really can't)
    -Slipknot (additional dishonrable mention)
-Green day (I agree, it's too mainstream poppy, upbeat and simple, plus boring, repetitive)
    -Barenaked ladies
-Dinosaur Jr. Probably (I really don't have that much of a problem with Dinosaur Jr. but I don't love it, I definitely see where you'recoming from)
-Foo Fighters, (I don't hate it but it's too boring and uninteresting for me, they're too vanilla, poppy and mainstream most of the time in a lot of their songs; I'd say I have a healthy respect towards them but not that much attachment to them)
-Aerosmith (never really liked them, as a friend and me always put it: it was just rich kids rock or rather rich white people who want to feel rebellious kind of music.)
-Kiss (I agree with the assesment, I wanted to get into them for a long time but they just simply don't make the cut for me, they have some kind of fun songs but mostly are very mindless, gimmicky and boring and they're a very boring gimmicky band over all.)
-The Rolling Stones (I really don't hate them, I kind of enjoy them but I really feel they're too outdated, boring and unappealing to someone like me, overated, so I don't love them)
    I'd also add:
    Guns 'n' Roses
    Mötley Crue
    Def Leppard
    Bon Jovi
    Van Halen
    Metallica
    Oasis
Whatever The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Interpol and those kinds of bands is
Stuff like Blink-182, Sum 41 or Fallout boy, Good Charlotte, Paramore, plus My Chemical Romance
    Panic! At The Disco
    30 Seconds to Mars
    The Killers
    Muse
    Coldplay
    Maroon 5
    Creed
    Nickelback
I know. Those last three or four don't count, are not universally loved and are kind of hated at least by certain groups of people. I know they really don't fit the criteria for the list.
Other than that I really absolutely love The Who, Thin Lizzy, they're great!
The Who have always been amazing to me, even more than stuff like Led Zeppelin. Very creative, inventive. Great music. No further comments.
For the longest time, I had a prejudice against Thin Lizzy, since the name sounded way too "bright", "playful" and "childish" or "girly" because I simply thought the name sounded off or odd and that it leaned too much into the Glam aspect of the so called Hair/Glam metal aspect of the era, I thought they were another Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Deff Leppard, Mötley Crue, Poison... with another type of "Pour some sugar on me", "Cherry pie" type of songs or whatever... but although they do have some Glam sparkled and sprinkled here and there throughout their discography, with some Glam material and some entirely Glam metal releases with certain albums, they're not really a Glam metal band, they're more Glam rock and mixed with Hard rock and Metal, and overall even their catchiest, bubbliest, most Glam-oriented stuff is very thought-out, well crafted, respectable music which I love, (I love Glam rock like Roxy music, Sparks, T. Rex, Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Elton John, Queen); they're/were great, talented, original, musicians, geniuses, with many amazing and gifted musicians in their ranks, some of the best ever, including Phil Lynott and Gary Moore, may they RIP.

Im glad you mentioned Kiss. I thought they had a couple of great tunes back in the day, but they've been covering their own old stuff for 40 years. They became like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Grateful Dead, where people would brag about seeing them for the 300th time, and get their logo tatt'd on their forehead. Then there was the incessant 20-yeat long retirement tour, and rumors that they're done 'any moment.' - Just to sell more tickets. I mean, goodbye already...
But its more about Gene Simmons, and his constant salespitch and arrogance. You could legitimately argue that a large part of my hatred for the band is more appropriately directed at him.
BTW, many of the above also applies to Motley Crue and Sixx, their pompuos, mediocre bass player. - Especially after they booted Mick Mars.
