Me too. I went 20 years without finding this and stumbled upon it by accident. I jumped with joy like I had just watch the birth of my first child. Music is such a powerful thing.
Don Dixon played a set with his wife, Marti Jones, where I work last night. They encored with this song. He's an amazing song writer & an all around badass dude.
Great song! Great performance. Fantastic studio production! It’s almost depressing to know that a song this good did not get the recognition. It deserved. I wonder what Mr. Dixon would say about that.
I was sitting, watching TV and began humming the tune so I decided to Google it. once I played it, all the great memories of the 80's came flooding back. Excellence song! Should have been a huge hit.
"Most of the girls like to dance" brings in elements of Patio Lanterns by Kim Mitchell; a sweet reminiscence of our innocent youth and first exploration of love.I said this when I first reviewed this record. I stand by it. An unrecognized talent that holds a place in my heart.
FACT: This song was featured in the 2003 movie CAMP. And Don Dixon played one of the main characters in the film: a down-on-his-luck, chain-smoking, alcoholic songwriter that only had one Broadway hit show, and is coming to this performing arts camp for the summer as a guest teacher.
And the scene this played under: during a meal, Jill and Fritzi (Alana Allen and Anna Kendrick, respectively) walk in on the group eating, creating a whole lot of dramatic tension between them. A notable quote directed at the bitchy Jill by the sassy Spitzer (played by Vince Rimoldi): "You know, I think I know your sister, Cinderella?"
Loved this from the first time I heard it in the mid-80s. Recently found my tape of it which I recorded off an AM station! Thought I was the only one who remembered this, thanks for posting!
You know the 80's were the best time to grow up...Mary McCann use to open her show with this song...Man I wish I had a time machine everything now days just does not compare...
I've searched all over for this song!!!! I remember that the guy singing wore a red bandana and there was a seductive gal in shiny, stretchy clothing...... Great beat!!!!
Great single from a great album where pretty much every song's a winner. Except perhaps for Andy which soon became topical at the time thanks to Barney. I digress. Saw Dixon and Marti Dec. '14 and they were as always, wildly entertaining.
omg - you're one of the only people I know who knows both Don Dixon and Kim Mitchell lol! thank you for validating what I've tried to share with everyone else!
My actual preying mantis passed away last night on new year's Eve.she was a good pet.she had babies too.i miss her.ill consider this a tribute to her.great song.been looking for someone to do it.yeah!RIP mantis.
I remember this tune came and went too quickly, then had a resurgence sometime in the 90s that made me wonder if I was crazy. Was it a new song? Why did I remember hearing it years prior? Was it the same song? Was I cracking up?
I had a cd or it probabley was a cassette tape that had this song and another song by timbuk 3 back in the day,the timbuck 3 song was called life is hard, does anyone know what album this could have been?thanks mtd45.
He is a great songwriter. add to that, fine producer, killer singer, ace guitarist....kicking bass player......Sheesh, i think I hate him! Plus, he married a babe.
i used to listen to this shit when i was 14 and stealing my grandfathers el camino to go steal bicycles in a town 30 miles away. i'm a terrible person. but it's a good song. but here i am, listening to this shit again. and if you have an el camino, i would steal that shit and go do something other than stealing bicycles. maybe your el camino would be used for good this time! anyone need a sandwich?
I started listening way back when because of his skills as a producer..loved this album.you should post ...renaissance eyes...my other fave from this album
Clueless why this isn't even on Spotify - one of my favourite 80s songs!
Been looking for this tune since....oh God I'm old.
Me too. I went 20 years without finding this and stumbled upon it by accident. I jumped with joy like I had just watch the birth of my first child. Music is such a powerful thing.
Same. Lol
I first heard this on WHFS in Maryland, sometime in the 80s. I don't think any radio station even plays stuff like this anymore. Great tune!
I remember when this album came out. I wore out my vinyl copy. I loved this song, and couldn't believe it didn't go high in the charts.
literally had this on vinyl in the 90s as well! GREAT memories of high school boyfriend...
Don Dixon played a set with his wife, Marti Jones, where I work last night. They encored with this song. He's an amazing song writer & an all around badass dude.
love this tune
I heard this song when it came out. I loved it. I never heard it again but I remembered it. 32 years later, here it is!
As a Top 40 nut from the 80's, this is a very underappreciated tune from back then...
i remember when this LP came out. i thought this song would be a number 1 hit. i couldn't stop listening to it. awesome!
Great song! Great performance. Fantastic studio production! It’s almost depressing to know that a song this good did not get the recognition. It deserved. I wonder what Mr. Dixon would say about that.
He's on Bandcamp, although this album is not available there. I'm sure he'd appreciate the shoutout there.
A really good ´Verrukkelijke 15´ classic!
love love love Don Dixon.
God, I loved the 80s.
Dixon is one of those people you just wish had the success his talent deserves. Rock on Don.
Loved this song back in '85. So happy to hear it again. Great tune and lyrics.
I was sitting, watching TV and began humming the tune so I decided to Google it. once I played it, all the great memories of the 80's came flooding back. Excellence song! Should have been a huge hit.
My old band used to play this in the '80's. It was a personal highlight over every evening.
One of the best songs from the 80's.
It’s full of stars
I remember seeing this video on 120 minutes back in 87, catchy tune...

I still love this... after all these years!
takes me right back to the reckless days of my youth....too fun! thank you for the great post!

This was always on the Top 7 at 7 on Q107 in 1986
I heard it on dutch radio in the fall of 1985.
Unfortunatly our radio stations in Germany didn't play this song.
makes me laugh 😂 EVERY time it comes up in my playlist...
As great as the simple musicianship is on this track, it's the comically-cynical lyrics that seal the deal. Always smile when I hear this one.

One of my alltime favorite songs from the 80's. Very good composition, and I like the lyrics very much. Thanks for posting!

praying mantis... a tender love!
First heard this song in the fall of 1987 and thought it was a lost hit from the 70s. It sure did not get it's due as a record.
Huh? This is Eighties alternative through and through, especially the production.
@@chrisirregardless
I know it came back strong sometime in the 90s or even early 2000s, at least around here.
🎵🎶 i can't help it,

@@anjasmolders2013 He means the US college radio stations where this song was played on heavy rotation. Just like VARA/Radio 3 did in the Netherlands
