Coming Down Heart Attack Hill - Pinyon Mountain

- How hard is Heart Attack Hill? About THIS hard.. Actually, Heartattack Hill (located on the Pinyon Mountain Trail in the Anza Borrego Springs area) is VERY intimidating. The top part of the hill is very steep (watch the spotter struggling to keep his footing for an idea of how steep) and to make it more interesting there are a couple of drop-offs and deep ruts. The hill is much worse for a two-door Jeep than 4-doors.
The key is going down SLOW and articulation. You MUST be in low-gear and your swaybar should be disconnected (or you should have an Antirock).. Jeeps or trucks with little/no articulation will pop-up the rear into the air when the front slides off the first ledge.
There are a couple of spots where no matter how slow you go or how hard you mash on the brake pedal, you just slide/go..
With some skill and a good spotter, it's no problem but it WILL keep your heart-rate up! Actually looks far worse standing at the bottom of the hill looking up than it does from behind the wheel looking down.

I went down and then drove up it. in a nearly stock jku sport. 3 inch springs on 35's. at 17 psi (started at 14 but they warmed up) Oh i have upgraded lower control arms. But no gears, no aftermarket lockers. Did'nt need to be pulled up or anything.

How reliable are Jeep brakes ??
It depends, if your talking about stock Jeep brakes with stock tires, they're capable for any off road. Now with bigger wheels which will add more weight plus mass of any other upgrades put on the jeep, the stock brakes will suffer. (Sorry i know you asked 3 months ago.)
