    I remember watching this movie and feeling like I switched to his side at some point. I think because she never took accountability and should have left sooner. She also let her sisters’ influence her.
    But realistically, he was selfish, a cheater, didn’t even bother trying to explain. He was a burden, and he ended up with the woman he said not to worry about. He drained her.

The way he disappeared after she got him the car, didn’t call/talk to her, and then the way he picked up that phone when they finally talked? Even his sorry ass apology afterwards lets you know what kind of person he is, everything out of his mouth was an empty promise at that point. If he couldn’t stay faithful and she literally tried to kill him, they both had no reason to stay in the relationship (unless it was to continue using her)
    I think it’s honestly unrealistic for a man who acts like this to ever actually repay you lol. That’s not to say there aren’t people worth supporting, but I get the impression that he learned/changed over time and was definitely a user in the beginning. And that makes a lot more sense to me than Melinda going from good to bad, and Robert gets to just be the hero the whole time for literally sucking her dry because he…believed in himself? Living off a woman working 2 jobs, allowing her to pay for college and a car, and not attempting to lift a finger at any point is not aspirational. This idea that women don’t want to be ride or dies or don’t want to build with men who aren’t well off should not apply to you using her for every resource she has and giving nothing back. You’re using her and expecting the promise of something to be enough. You can receive support without someone completely supporting you financially. Just like you shouldn’t be in her position, no one should be comfortable in his.

    "I can be the mother-blanking devil." To be honest, she showed him exactly who she was the day they first met when they bumped into each other. The woman had deep-seated mental issues long before she met him. That's why she kept making all of those decisions to stay with him, even though, at the time, he wasn't making any progress and showing her all the reasons she should have left. There were many things not working in her mind that fueled the acrimony. It's true that she genuinely fell in love and gave all of herself and then some to help support him, but at the end of the day, she caused much of her pain and grief because she allowed her emotions to control her and wound up ruining her life. She made the decision to ram her truck into his trailer when he first cheated on her and, consequently, made it so that she could never have children. Then, she made the decision to get back together with him. You can give people a second chance, but if they don't improve and show you change after the second time, then can you really blame anyone else but yourself? This movie is interesting because it allows you to see both sides with ample context. I felt for her because, to her credit, she allowed herself to be vulnerable and stood by her man's side against all the odds. However, her mental state was in shambles long before it all began.
    Long post, I know. Great reaction. That's why I come to your channel because I know I'm always going to be laughing whenever you do a reaction to these movies.

    Robert, he did his best. However, he should’ve contributed more. She was cashing out money left and right, he needed to have a steady job while perfecting his prototype.
    Mel should NOT have listened to her bitter sisters. Once she told them he cheated on her when they were younger, they automatically saw him in that light. This is why relationship details should remain confidential between you and your partner, especially if you’re willing to take them back. Mel worked hard and kept them afloat, and I applaud her for that. If only she didn’t listen to her sisters and was a bit more patient (also effective communicated instead of yelling or nagging). Her sisters influenced every decision she made and she never acted as an individual woman. That was ultimately her downfall.

      This is what I’ve been saying. Robert wasn’t perfect but the reason everything went left is because she didn’t trust him. Instead of trusting him she let her bitter sisters egg her on. He cheated in the past but was faithful the remainder of their relationship! Even in the end he still gave her 10 million and her mother’s house back. She didn’t even care about that she wanted to be with him and have everything he promised her.

    This movie was sad in all aspects and both of them were to blame. He took all the advantage of her that he could and payed for it. Mel was crazy before she met him but he woke up a sleeping dragon. She wouldn’t have been such otherwise. She gave up literally everything for this guy. At some point it wasn’t even about the money anymore when he cheated on her earlier, but her anger and rage towards the situation caused her own injury and not being able to have children. She stayed with him although she knew he had his own agenda. When he got rich and bought her mother’s house back that he helped her to lose, and gave her all that money he owed her and then some it wasn’t enough. She loved him with everything in her and I think he loved her too, but he was selfish in their relationship at first and then some other woman started reaping the benefits of her pain. That poor woman had no idea what she got herself into. Me personally I would not have gone that far and I would have taken everything he gave me and his apology and paid for lots of therapy and kept it moving. She committed murder and ended up dead herself because she was already crazy.

Money she spent on him 10 fold? ✔ Bought her mama's house back? ✔Melinda became the villain the moment she didn't take the final L of him officially moving on with Diana at that condo. Plus, all the stuff Rob kept promising Mel was for MRS GAYLE...lol she was the Mrs until she divorced him and he married someone else. **Kanye shrug**
    After all these years, I'm convinced that the people that DON'T think Melinda was out of control in the end are the kind that cheat back and stay in ridiculous relationships way past their expiration dates, and have the audacity to get mad when the other person moves on.

  • @patreece9302
    @patreece9302 9 місяців тому +8

    Honestly it’s different ways to look at this movie. I really understood why she was mad. You stay with a man and basically pay for his dreams for 20 years and NOTHING come from it. No money, no children, nothing. You sacrificed time and thousands of dollars on a dream that didn’t even pan out. So you’re already at your wits end, then you find out he maybe cheated which honestly was just the straw that broke the camels back. JUST for him to finally get the dream that you technically paid for and him give the bearings of that to another woman. My thing is why didn’t he come back after his battery hit on some “baby my battery hit and now all our dreams can be a reality” . Forget the money you finally get the life you promised her then give it to another women. I honestly woulda been mad too. Not enough to murder someone but I definitely understood the anger.

Shit she could have bought a crib in LA and found her another dude with the same income to sail off with…. She was tooo attached to a man and not herself. To answer your question”why didnt he come back and say baby we up”….. she divorced him, kicked him out and got with another dude. Why would he come back ever? Before she got handed that $10 million, she looked at him and said “we are never getting back together”. Its over and she was incapable of handling that fact because HE was up and moved on. With $10 M’s she started torturing herself always watching their lives on social media and stalking and sabotaging instead of building her life up.

    “ *shows ring* Is that a ring pop?” That sent me 😂. I absolutely adore this film. It's really relatable and portrays what happens when women are mistreated. The film teaches perseverance, believing and supporting one another in love, and that when you say forever, you must stay to it. With Acrimony, writer-director Tyler Perry creates a surprisingly subtle thriller. The cinematography, storyline, and story are all excellent, allowing the actors to shine and provide memorable performances. In my opinion, Acrimony is one of Tyler Perry's best films. The film depicts real-life issues that most grown individuals who are married face. Plus, a life lesson for the typical pair.This film appeals to me since it depicts the couple's troubles as well as their respective points of view. Taraji P. Henson's performance was excellent as always, and the plot was well-written. Taraji P. Henson played the frustrated wife who felt it was time to strike back. Going into the cinema, I assumed this would be another romantic love story gone wrong. However, this film proved me incorrect. I wholeheartedly recommend seeing this film.

    Damn this movie is so complex because it’s not black and white. I feel like the at the end of it he has a lot of blame in this. He cheated on her after she bought him a car, he took from her for decades and let her work 2 jobs to support him. He didn’t care for her emotionally which really was all she wanted. He put his battery over his wife every time, while she’s crying thinking that he cheated on her (again) with the woman from college instead of explaining real quick and asking her to come with him, he runs off. And then after they separated he quickly gets remarried to the woman she thought he cheated on her with. Like how does that look? And when she asked for a divorce he didn’t fight for the relationship either. I’m sure if he would’ve showed that he genuinely cared and wanted to try she would’ve folded but he easily let go confronting all her thoughts. Mel was too naive and attached herself to him because he was around when her mother died and made her feel safe and she couldn’t lose that. She gave all of herself to him, all of her emotional support and financial support. But her reactions were her downfall. Sometimes in life you have to take the L. She should’ve taken the money gotten into therapy and tried to move on. Her anger around made her react in a way that had irreversible consequences, but she didn’t learn that lesson. I feel bad for her truly because when you invest so much in someone emotionally it’s hard to let go, but instead of her sisters being so uptight they should’ve been there for her to watch her mental health because she needed that support. No one ever gave her the support she needed even though she had a family and a husband and it’s sad. And It wasn’t about the money, she wanted to come back when he had the money because she knew that he would finally be able to focus on her and they could be happy. She never cared if he had money which is why the 10 million didn’t mean anything to her, it was the emotional investment that she could never recoup that she was stuck on.

    I'm suspicious of where Diana got the money to give to Robert. It's true that companies buy different technologies, but they usually target technology that is current or has future potential. Robert's technology is 20ish years old & he's never successfully got it to work. It would be inefficient for a company to waste money on outdated tech. I think Diana either loaned that large amount of money or pulled it from her own pocket. Since Robert loves spending, not making money, it wouldn't be long before he burned through the money Diana gave him & started working through her bank accounts

    I see both sides and I believe he genuinely loved her but to be fair, even though he paid her back monetarily it wasn’t enough. She was looking for the same amount of love, patience, and faith that she had put into him for over 18 years. When she asked for the divorce he gave up and signed those paper’s pretty quickly. She wanted him to put the same time and effort into fighting for her and the marriage as she did for their relationship and his dream all those years. And think about it… he didn’t just move on with any woman. He moved on and gave her life to the woman he cheated on her with. That makes it 10 times worse. It pours salt in the wound. She was thinking as soon as we divorce, you get a job? But you wouldn't get one and help with our bills. I say I want a divorce out of anger and you sign the papers without much of a fight at all. Then you give everything you promised me to my arch nemesis. I'm not saying I agree with her recourse but I do understand why she snapped. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Some people feel like she left her wallet behind on purpose. In the beginning Melinda had the right to be upset. After she divorced him& he gave her the money and purchased her mother’s house I feel like she should have gone on about her way. Also, she should have kept her sisters out of their marriage then things would have been different.

    Robert was a con man since he was young.
    Melinda was a naive girl who wanted love so much she sacrificed a lot due to Robert’s constant guilt tripping which is manipulation. He used Melinda the entire time. While Melinda thought they loved each other & it was for love. Robert was wrong. End of story. And Melinda continued on her path to her demise caused by a manipulative man.

That’s not your person. Don’t enable users don’t be a victim. Love isn’t pain nor sacrifice esp if it’s at the expense of you. And you are left in pain. If you find yourself in pain leave.

    Robert was far from the perfect husband, he was selfish and self absorbed and wasn't contributing enough to his marriage. But he did love Melissa and he tried to make things right with her by buying her back her mother's house and giving her a million dollars to repay for all the years she spent supporting him. So i dont hate him or see him as the real bad guy just a flawed man.
    Melissa she was to inpatient with him and greedy. If she stopped listening to her Bitter sisters and been more patient with him, she would've gotten everything Robert promised her. But she wasn't and for all her talks about hating Robert and calling him a con man she still kept taking him back after he cheated and giving him money him money when she didn't have to. As you mentioned Melinda didn't have to buy him that expensive car she couldve just bought him a truck or scooter. If she had just accepted and been happy with Roberts original offer none of this would've happened.

    • @Zvwry
      @Zvwry 9 місяців тому +9

      I think she was more than patient. And I don’t think she was greedy just resentful that she put in so much time so much money so much support and gene he finally gets it together after being the one to build him up she can’t take part in it. She definitely should one have listened to her sisters if she still loved him, but she should’ve left earlier because he was taking so much out of her.

    • @EternalStorm796
      @EternalStorm796 9 місяців тому +5

      Mel wasn't greedy, she was patient and hopeful and above all supportive until too much weighed down on her psyche including her sisters involvement.
      They were too judgmental, probably connected to their mother's death and took it upon themselves to protect Mel in her stead.
      Robert did love her, too damned determined for his own good though. lol
      If Mel could just move on and use the money to build a better life without Robert or at least didn't give him too cold a shoulder (she had every reason too) things could've worked out.

Melinda doesn't own up to anything, she doesn't take responsibility for the reckless decisions she made. Such as taking him back after he cheated and KEPT GIVING HIM SO MUCH MONEY.

    I understand Melinda to a degree she went through the paint with the con man (can’t rmb his name) literally and willingly. In Melinda eyes ole girl literally won (a kid, marriage and money) and didn’t go through the rough years of struggling and being delusional for a selfish man. He was trifling, she was psychotic.

  • @celinakay4367
    @celinakay4367 9 місяців тому +2

    This movie stresses me out. Though I agree that Melinda was stupid in many of the decisions she made concerning Robert, I whole heartedly believe that Robert is a bad person. He was using her, he was taking advantage of her kindness and love during every part of their relationship. He was selfish, he did not care that he screwed every one over to get what he wanted. He sat there with a smile on his face when she agreed to mortgage the house. Like, is she stupid. Yes. And should she have left him sooner. Absolutely. But I understand her anger when she was the one financially supporting him on the promise that the both of them together would reap the benefits of his dream. Not just the money, but the lifestyle. Cuz at the end of it all, for some reason, she loved him, and wanted to have those things TOGETHER, she and him. It is evident during her spiral, that she did not care about the money. The money did not fix what she sacrificed, what she endured for him, and it wasn't what she really wanted anyway. She wanted the stability and a decent life with her husband which is what he promised her. The only reason she divorced him was because she believed he was cheating on her again. So to see another woman, the very woman he cheated on her with in the past, get the ring she was promised, the house she was promised, everything she was promised, on top of having a baby she could never have, pushed her all the way over the edge. In parts of the movie, I definitely see where Robert is coming from too cuz letting go of a dream you've been working on for nearly 2 decades is a lot and he was willing to do it. And for those saying the new woman encouraged Robert, Melinda did too, but she was carrying the whole marriage on her shoulders so it makes sense that she slowly started losing faith in him when he never showed her progress. She poured her everything into him with nothing in return while they were married so....idk. This movie makes my head hurt. It's a lot to think about in both Robert and Melinda's actions, but again, I definitely see why she's so angry since everything that was promised to her was given to another woman.
    Edit: And thennnn now that I think about it, this movie tries to make the other woman into some sort of savior when she had different connects. Melinda had the money to support Robert and get the things he needed for the battery, but this new lady worked at the company so of course it was easier for her to get Robert's foot in the door. Melinda was there for Robert and literally built him from the ground up. With all that considered, it makes total sense to me how she would lose her mind. Especially when we remember she's not all the way there in the head anyway. So I further understand her point of view even though I don't agree with her decisions and how she handled her anger. She is partially responsible for this and unfortunately it was her downfall. In an ideal reality for her, she would've taken that 10 million and did something in life for herself. Take herself on trips. Get her own dream house, but she decided to live in her rage

    I love the fact that the entire score is music by the late-great Nina Simone. The fact that she never wanted to become an entertainer or a singer. She originally wanted to become a classical concert pianist but the school she intended on attending either didn't pick her or didn't allow her to even audition because she was a woman of color. But that was a blessing in disguise because without Nina, music would've had a huge void within it.
