  • This is a really awesome washing machine, can be easily made at home. It is a good machine for all students who live in hostels to wash their shirts and socks. Enjoy!

    Just a suggestion. Get 5 or 10 one inch rubber bouncy balls. To the inside edges of the washing bucket, glue a half of a rubber ball, the kind you get a toy stores, on various places to create a washboard effect as the clothes are circling around the bucket. This will create the agitation needed to knock the dirt out and push the soap and water through the clothing.
    Also, for a drain, drill a slightly smaller hole than 1" approximately 1/2" from the bottom of the top bucket. Insert a male threaded pvc pipe into the hole from the outside. Place a washer onto the threaded end from the inside and use a pvc nut to secure the pipe to the bucket. Use a pvc cap to prevent the water from leaking out while using the washer and remove when emptying. If you want to make the pipe longer, you can either add more pvc pipe or add a hose to the end to run to a drain.

    This is absolutely brilliant on DIY standard and first time attempt, lots of feedbacks are being poured by youtubers for may be improvement they want to see on next iterattion. let me add mine too, well i think the washing cycle will be more effective if it has some contours on the sides of upper bucket may be you could do this with the aid of some sort of heating element. Good job anyway!

    The advantage in these kind of Bucket washing machines is they will consume less water. And nice to use for washing baby clothes. 👌

    How about adding 3 fins on the sides the a better wash? I have a GE front loader that uses 3 fins. Even my grandkids dirty football uniforms come out clean everytime.

    You can make an H-bridge out of power transistors and diodes, to alternate the direction of current, the motor then rotates back and forth and it pretty much resemble the commercial washing machine. Great vid though!

    This would probably clean better if it reversed direction every 20 seconds or so - better agitation.

    This is the best damn project so far. I believe some simple improvements can be done with that model, like adding a drainage pipe etc. I also think you'll need a more powerful motor.
    Anyway, I'm willing to try this project if I could find the parts.

    This is a great project, but I am unable to find an appropriate sized pulsator. All I can find are over 12" diameter which does not fit the common 5 Gallon bucket. I believe that pulsators sold separately are much more common in India, which unfortunately does not export most items like this to the West.

  • @KennethScharf
    @KennethScharf 8 років тому +17

    should have only put the glue on the smallest circular piece of wood. The way you did it glue bonked out where it didn't belong. Also it's a DC motor, so you could have set it up to reverse directions between cycles for more agitation.

    PS .. I just saw a review on a portable washer/spinner called the base camp washer. It has the internal basket that attaches to the agitator. It'd be totally worth trying to incorporate this into your design as clothes that havent been spun dry take so much longer to dry. Depending on weather conditions where you are camping this could be a real pain.

    you're a smart guy I was wondering why didn't you use a mini shipping Barrel the plastic ones and on the other side where the motor and everything is did you use some kind of sealant so the water doesn't go through

    • @kedwa30
      @kedwa30 8 років тому +1

      He did not seal it. The tightness of the connection on the two plastic buckets keeps the seal. You can seal it if that is your preference. Silicone caulk is a good choice.

  • @kedwa30

    Good video, but the design of the washing machine could be improved. If possible, design the circuit to reverse then forward for more agitation and less swirl. Thumbs up!

    There is a reason washing machine agitators change direction. It's so the water pushes through the clothes. If the water and clothes are spinning in the same direction its gonna be very inefficient. Surely this could be done electronically. Close but no cigar on this design. It would also be quite easy to have a basket that attaches to the agitator to spin clothes or just a lock to make the motor spin the whole bucket and a plug in the bottom. Nice first try though. Keep at it ;)

    The actual use was not shown, but I can predict that it will not work. The end result will be a tangle of clothes as a result of the action working in only one direction. It needs to reverse direction frequently or to churn up and down.
