12/28/2023 aaaaaand back to agreeing w simple nick's. i think closed species CAN suck for one reason or another but they CAN also be really fun. i think its a fun concept to have to work within limitations and it really pushes people's creativity, although i am aware for others it can feel really restricting and stupid. so yeah
Actually I agree with you, you can't own an idea, it's if Hasbro blacklisted me (God such a stupid idea) for making a Transformer OC or Pony OC, it'll be one million precent retarded. I don't think you should charge people for a dog with a banana up it's ass or a dog that can swim.
My biggest problem is the insane culture around it. The price for ridiculous amount. Attacking artists for similar designs. Or making them purely for profit and not for creativity of making a community. The price around a few hundred. Sure. Why not ? Anything over 1,000 is pushing it for me and can get messy. The Grem situation is proof of that. But it does make me happy for artists that can make that amount for their art. I have my own species. Its not open to public and it has personal things attached to them. And no one but me know that. I don't hate the concept but it just not the environment I wanna vibe with it.
I've always liked the Chimeron species but it's so expensive to even own a design. And honestly it doesn't make sense when I can go over and make a Jackson chamelon that looks exsactly the same. But because of the closed species you have to label it off brand- like....Shouldnt the Chimereons be off brand? I'm pretty sure Jackson chameleons were invented first 😂 some closed species really isnt unique enough to even be closed.
Theres like, 0 consistency in chimerons. I've had so many "rip off" chimeron characters even tho I was just making a stylized jacksons chameleon. Its bs. You cant copyright an idea or feature. That's not how that works I ended up scrapping the character bc I was tired of getting comments and harrassment over having an "illegal" chimeron. It's so dumb you cant own a nose horn
Chimereons arent worth it, the community is such a shitty place and people are leaving because mods are being such assholes and aren't managing the place
EXACTLY! I love the species but they are so expensive, and its a pretty common design! Like Gremms. They aren't that complicated, but they are SO EXPENSIVE. So, id rather like semi-closed species because you can have one, just with a few rules!
Talking about making an OC really similar to a closed species by accident, I feel really paranoid whenever I'm working on a project for too long. Cuz I feel like I copied from somewhere?? I start to think "where have I seen this pose before? This expression, the lines, shading..." I only feel original when I'm thinking about what I'm gonna draw. When I put it in action I just feel weird but keep going. Nice video, Dan.
@@Parodiafritz it could be a great idea as long it isn't a 100% copy ^^ mostly if you add stuff that Floof shrimp species doesn't have! I would surely support you ( I also love lobster, they are cute)
THIS. The entire thing about owning a “one of a kind” design, and having to pay a ridiculous amount of money for it-THE ONLY DIFFERENCE ID THAT IT DOESN’T HARM THE ENVIRONMENT!
just so yall know my opinion on cs as of 3/7/2022 is that a lot of them are stupid and cover too broad of an idea and shouldnt be closed and some are cool and fine and original but you cant expect everyone to respect the "closed" aspect of them and offbrands are inevitable just like irl products like..oreos or whatever idk. so yeah thats where im at currently
for ppl who are outside of the cs community another way to get cs is thru oc trades [trading a design for another design] and. if youre an artist. you can even get cs thru an art trade. this is how i get most of mine. i know alot of cs are more on the pricey side. but in the end of the day. they are luxury. plus. nowadays? i think cs [atleast the ones im in] are alot more lax about offbrands and dont rly care aslong as you dont straight up call it that cs or call it an offbrand. no. youre not being rebellous for making a jackson chameleon. sit down jennifer. cliques is an issue true. but from what ive heard as someone who hasnt been in waterdogs but met ppl who have. that cs seems to be one of the WORST when it comes to that and how it is run in general. and they dont seem like they are well liked in cs. especially now since there are better alternative species. edit lmao: as you can clearly tell this is also something i am very passionate about
I’m also passionate about cs [dw, I’m not a “trait white knight” or “concept white night”] but yea many people just gloss over the fact that you can get cs by other ways without money I’m an admin at a “honey x cat” species, and it’s just for fun. We don’t care if other people make honey cats as well xD. CS is a really fun hobby to me, it’s just sad that so much drama can happen so easily 😔
I have two closed species cos (They gave me for free). One of them has original traits, but one of the rules says you're not allowed to sell them (I believe in the adopt rule that once you own it, do whatever you want) Plus, it's rigorous. You have to report to the admins what you're going to do with the species. The second one is very unoriginal. It's just a dog hybrid with horns.
My issues with closed species is not that artists are making money off of them, but the almost abuse of the popularity of them. Popular artists in the furry community will make a closed species that sell adopts for the same amount of money that they sell non-closed species, because the artist is a popular designer in the community. It feels like a slap in the face to smaller artists that try to make a closed species to attempt to make some income and it never takes off. I don't have an issue with closed species on broad term, I have an issue with this practice and how most of them are used to do things like this
I've seen a person try to sell 2 marking basic designs for 30+ bucks Like it mean 2 solid colors with one marking on it, if I'm gonna spend 30+ bucks on a design, I'm gonna get a better designed character
There is a similar like species of chimeron but looks different it's called Saurgems I don't own the species but I forgot the craters name and it's a open species
I don’t think closed species are a good idea. It limits creativity for a person, and what if it inspires a person to make an OC of that species. It’s not protected by law, because it isn’t right, and the right of creativity is for everyone. If I wanna make a primagen, I’ll make a damn primagen, because I think it looks fucking cool. If a person decides to steal your art, you have evidence against them, because you made it first, so you can expose them. The blacklist can kiss my ass.
I'm really inspired by a certain closed species, but I'm too scared to draw similar to them... It's really frustrating cuz I don't wanna be disrespectful to the artist by drawing similar to their species... 😣😓😬
@@chaironthelawn349 which one? Accidentally drew a Cinnadog because I didn't know it was closed so I just drew it. Still keeping him because he took a long time
I see closed species as being a part of the lore, not really how the character looks, someone can make a fish dog and that’s all fine and dandy, but if they claim it’s a specific group of closed species with a ton of lore then no, no it’s not, it’s just one that looks like it. aswell, art is also kind of a part of it, you’re paying for a specific creature with lore attached to it ASWELL as art from a specific artist. a closed species can be basic and copied, whatever, but the lore and being drawn by a specific artist is part of the value if it’s basic sorry about bad writing and description it’s kinda just what went through my head
Open species out weigh closed species in creativity and lore, it seems like people who create closed species either don't know what they're doing or are in it only for the money.
I have a closed species, the only reason it's not open is because it's just a personal project and for lore reasons. I don't want to to sell them, raffle them, or trade them. The only reason they exist is for myself. And they aren't super generic like a random hybrid, which is super stupid. I'm not sure if it makes my species bad that it is closed, I just want it to be my own little thing for a book I plan to write for myself. How should I handle this? (sorry for the long comment) also really good video! It was really informative =]

I’m not too fond of parts of the ghabi community but eh- I never payed a single cent and I got my hands on many ghabis legitimately- I traded away all but the custom amoeba one I got and adore I don’t see closed species adopts as nfts I just see em as normal adopts- don’t steal em they are specific character designs you don’t own and it’s unfair to anyone who might actually love the design enough to buy it- tho i’m not against making your own characters out of closed species with no ill intent and just genuine interest
