Soprano Carrie Wilson singing "O Cessate di Piagarmi" by Alessandro Scarlatti. Recorded at St. John's Episcopal Church, West Hartford, CT on September 27, 2008.
THANK YOU!!!! This version opens the ear to the possibilities for this gorgeous aria. Your version is the best I've heard, and your technique is flawless and shows the ease with which singing can be delivered, and it's truly transcendent. I'll be using it as an example for my voice students.
I've listened to so many people singing these 'aria antiche' today on you tube and this is by far streets ahead of all I have listened to. Phrasing is beautiful and in the Bel Canto style with solid appoggio breathing. A pleasure to listen to.
That was SOOOO amazingly beautiful and inspiring, considering most African Americans don't sing classical music. You make it look so easy. You have to give us more.
Oh wow! I didn't expect such a wonderful and pure voice to come out of you! Chilling! My friend sang this in high school for solo contest and although she did wonderful, you gave me a new reason to love this song! VERY Well done!
Thank you! I love your voice and your performance! It is so beautiful, so sweet! I am learning to sing and I was looking for a version of this song. I had a sorprise when I watched this video. Oh my God! I want to sing like you! Thank you very much!
Hi Carrie, You have a beautiful voice! I am performing this song this fall, and I was looking for a version of this song to model after. Your rendition BY FAR in the BEST I have heard on this song! Look forward to seeing more of your videos! God Bless, Dali Burgado (Fellow Virginian!)
Listened various versions of this song here in youtube. This is absolutely the best performance of this song. Your voice is absolutely great. If you aren't yet professional, you should really drive your self to the big stages! Wish you well and good luck!
Hello! I am in a program that is partnered with Carnagie Hall, and they are teaching me this song. I really want to learn to sing it just like this, especially because we are the same range. This helped me learn the words, so now all I have to do is learn the melody. I am halfway to almost halfway there! From MissNoelaniiDiva
That was amazing it was like I felt the sorrow in your voice and you pronounciation is on point. I have a long ways to go, that was perfect, I'm your new fan.
Great! The only thing I would change would be correcting your pronunciation of the first syllable of piagarmi -- it's not pee-garmee, it's pyah-garmee, as if the "i" does not even exist.
Think of the Italian word "pieta" for instance -- one does not prounounce the "i"; it only acts as a "y" sound. Hope that helps and keep up the lovely work!

@neetrab yes there is O cessate di piagarmi - - O cessate di piagarmi, O lasciatemi morir!
Hey Edwardanbella4ever1, I need to know were to find the lower version (the alto version) for this song, caro mio ben and sebben crudele ...could you please help me with this. I was thinking that maybe you knew a web site or something . Pleaseeeeeeee! thank you ! Love Daniela
You should always take slow deep breaths right before any performance releasing the air slowly to slow down the heart rate. Also try the Alexander Technique which can be found on the internet a location near you. God Bless
O cessate di piagarmi - English translation O stop wounding me, O leave me to die! eyes so ungrateful, merciless, more than ice and more than marble cold and deaf to my sufferings! and you enjoy my fainting. More than a snake, more than an asp, cruel and unhearing to my sighs, eyes so proud, unseeing and ferocious, you have power to make me well again, and you enjoy my fainting.
very nice, I didn't know this singer; what a pity, she mistakes the pronounciation of the word PIAGARMI: she says PIEGARMI! In Italian, "deh, cessate di piagarmi" means "please, cease/stop wounding me!"; but What she says means: "stop folding/bending me" It's a bit ridiculous, what a pity.
My favorite performance of this song. Perfect voice for this piece, wonderful pacing.
Thank you for your wonderful comment.
God Bless

It was truly lovely and sounded effortless, the way it should. However, we know how much hard work goes into singing sooo beautifully! Great job!

@sweb74 - haha! Yea I already know the second verse... I didn't mean for you to copy it down on here... thanks anyway.
Haven't you been scouted, or been on a reality tv show?
Madam, it's "piAgarmi", non "piEgarmi". It has got a totally different meaning.
Thank you

Nice, but would like some ornamentation.
very nice, I didn't know this singer; what a pity, she mistakes the pronounciation of the word PIAGARMI: she says PIEGARMI!

actually, piegarmi also means "coerce me" or "dominate me", there's definitely a difference but it makes sense and is not ridiculous at all :)
zzz zzz zzz zzz!!! *_*
Thank you.
