Do we really pitch for airspeed? (Yes. . we do)

- From day one of flight training you've (hopefully) been taught that we pitch for airspeed and use power for altitude. But is it really that simple? Join us in the cockpit for this candid conversation during a lesson with Arjun as we discuss how we manage and exchange energy through all phases of flight.

Ohh thank you so much for the video . I had my climbing and descending lessons yesterday and I struggled here and was not able to understand. Thanks again 😊
Glad it helped! Let me know if I can help with anything else!
Say it with me... "Energy Management" 😂 Good stuff my man!
Great presentation. Thanks
Instantly improved my approach speed, decent rate and all around landings. Brilliant!😊
I love to hear that. Way to go man! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
good stuff. This isn't discussed enough in instruction, both in the air and ground school. students are told pitch for speed power for altitude but often they don't understand why.
Appreciate it! Yeah it’s a very nuanced concept and can be hard to explain in words. But this is my best attempt to do so lol.
Very well done.
Thank you!
It’s easier to think about throttle controls total energy and pitch divides that into a mix of potential and kinetic. More power (throttle) can make you go faster if you pitch down and divert the new energy towards kinetic or climb if you pitch up and let that energy flow to potential.
That’s essentially the gist of it 👍
Pitch up to lower airspeed and add power
Pitch down to increase airspeed and decrease power..balamce between the two
One of the best Instructions I’ve ever seen, but I think it would be more effective if you do it on the ground and then apply it in the airplane because right now he’s thinking oh shit I’m paying for all this , Great job Overall.
Thanks! And yes you’re right. It would have been ideal on the ground. But it was a spur of the moment conversation that happened to apply to what we were working on, so yeah lol… but rest assured we discussed it more on the ground in the debrief! Thanks for watching!
This is an excellent video. Thank you 🙏.
It doesn’t make sense. But it Does!!!!
Looks like this should be presented to the student on the ground not in the air !
It was 👍
Thanks. Im a glider pilot. Tired of rhe bull pilots are taught.
Potential kinetic kinetic potential !?!?!? Your the instructor and u keep messing up !!! Time 4 a new teaching technique !!!
Thanks for the input, oh wise one :-) this was a candid conversation… not a rehearsed lecture.
Im a glider pilot. Its all bullshit. And too confusing..remove the engine...then explain..keep it simple..
Thank you so much for the explanation, simple and easy to understand 🛬🛫
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
