Hi, I'm a part of the OCLP team and came across the video, so I can clarify some of the parts. Firstly, the AMD FirePro GPU's (and GCN1-3 in general) entirely lack VideoToolBox support even on native OS and the Xeon CPU has no iGPU. This is why VideoProc Converter will show video acceleration as not available on the Mac Pro 2013, as there is no GPU that supports video acceleration. It's an odd machine, maybe an oversight by Apple when choosing the hardware? The lead OCLP developer had fought 3 days trying to fix it only to realize the same happens on supported OS. For the Maps app on the 2011 iMac, yeah unfortunately that will never work as MapKit is built on using Metal starting from Monterey. We cannot implement Metal on those systems, what we have to do is make the OS run on OpenGL which comes with limitations. However, the team will be looking into whether we can fix Weather on non-Metal. It can still run the OS so the status is correct but they will never run it flawlessly. There are countless of other apps that will also not run at all or run with problems on non-Metal and it's getting worse as we go on. Non-Metal really is for experimentation mostly, we don't recommend it for daily use other than browsing and encourage to upgrade the GPUs where possible. For Bluetooth, resetting the NVRAM might work as a current workaround. Hope this helps, just wanted to clarify some parts for an otherwise very informative video for OCLP users and newcomers!

Hi Jessie , thank you for your help , and directing me to your tutorials , which I have been watching . I watched your tutorial on how to install Sonoma on unsupported macs , but before going ahead I watched the one above and the one about 83 Unsupported Macs which can run it . I note that , while it may be possible to run Sonoma on Macs older than around 2012/2013 , you may not exactly recommend it ? My two main machines are my MacPro 3,1 Early 2008 , 2x 2.8GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon , with 16Gb 800MHz DDR2 Ram ( room for another 16Gb ) and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB graphics card , currently running El Capitan . My MBP is a 17" Mid 2009 MBP 5,2 2.8GHZ Intel Core Duo with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Ram and the NVDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB graphics card . Also running El Capitan . If it would be less advisable to upgrade these to Sonoma , could you suggest which newer OS might best suit these machines ? I have yet to watch all your videos , so you may already have done this , but have you done a video to suggest how far it is advisable to update each range of older Macs ? I plan to start with my MacPro , since it has multiple internal drives , and try putting Sonoma onto what is currently the Time Machine drive , leaving my current OS drive intact ( I hope ) . All my data is kept on separate external drives , so only the OS resides on drives 1&2 in the machine , with drives 3&4 configured as a fast RAID array for work in progress , with everything on the RAID backed up on external drives anyway . I'm minded to try upgrading to Big Sur on my Time machine drive and see how it runs ; then if OK move up to the next OS until I may encounter any problems , all the time keeping El Cap on my primary drive , and if I do encounter any problems , I can just wipe the time machine drive and revert back one OS . I will look for a MacPro 5,1 before too long with 2x 6core processors and the best spec I can find , but for now I want to try to update the machines I have since they have hit a brick wall re support from Adobe and Apple for many of the applications I use . Thanks for all your help so far . I'm now watching the tutorials on my MBP so I can follow them step by step while I try the upgrades on my Mac Pro .

Jessie, before you starting give people suggestions on running Ventura/Sonoma on iMacs 2012 upwards, better you educate yourself on upgrade graphics possibilities for iMacs 2007-2011. Especially iMacs 2009-20011 have amazing posibilities to add flashed MXM graphics cards that have metal support, thus run newer MacOS and are easier to upgrade internal components.

I just installed Monterey on my 2009 MBP 13". So far so good. I'm surprised at how well it runs. I want to try Sonoma but I don't think my machine can handle it.
That’ll be interesting… 🤔
Good overview, just installed Sonoma on my 2008 Mac Pro. Video forthcoming, but found Quicktime screen capture has funky screen glitches on a Kepler GPU. Mind if I feature this in my video for a second? Will link to it as I want to use a clip of 2013 visual glitches.
Hi, absolutely, go ahead! It’s an honor if you’d feature one of my videos on your channel! ☺️
That’s correct, but I basically inform people about using their stock MACs with newer macOS
Hey Jessie, MacBook Pro mid 2014 läuft - DANKE 🙂

I installed sonoma on my 2017 imac and its working flaulessly and I am not having issues, it performs better than ventura
Great to hear!
I just installed an oclp update to 1.0.1 and it looks like when ever I install a macOS update, only my wireless card is included in the patches, I was fully up and running after upgrading 2 days ago, this is definitely better than staying on ventura, which had stabilities on my system, stability issues
I want to use Tradingview & Webull on 6 monitors simultaneously with the trash can.

Hey @JessiesFlying, I have an issue... After installing macOS Sonoma 14.1 Beta 2 (23B5056e) update on MacPro6,1 the system started, but then after applying the Post-Install Root Patch, the system does not boot anymore. It stops on the boot screen with the Apple logo, but without progress bar, and stays there not moving forward. How can I remove the Post-Install Root Patch to just boot the system without GPU support and other patches?

I’ll probably wait for updates to see if GPU hardware acceleration can work on the trashcan before trying it out. Still, amazing work from the devs.
I think that'll always be difficult with GPUs from 2013 and Legacy Metal....

Hello, very good videos. How can I connect the Apple Thunderbolt Cinema Display monitor to the Mac Pro 5.1 using Monterey??? Thank you
you would need a Thunderbolt card like the Titan Ridge - or get the Apple Cinema Display with Mini-Displayport like I got ;-)
What about other drm projectes services, like netflix or prime video?
I had an iMac 27 2011 with upgraded Bluetooth/wifi card and a nvidia gtx 780m in the past, Netflix and Apple TV didn’t work under ventura (only with chrome browser)…
Now i have a 2015 MacBook Pro (with dual Graphics), and an iMac 5k 2017 and i’m not confident to use OCLP with Sonoma…
I have a Thunderbolt display for the MacBook, i had ventura installed, for instance the auto brightness on the Thunderbolt display did not work, i also had problems when i updated ventura (most times i have the need to do a clean installation, but most things, worked, even continuity camera (spoffed)…
I need more time to check, but anyone experience with those specific modes?
I installed macOS Sonoma on a late 2009 iMac, upgrading from Ventura and everything but bluetooth works. Bluetooth controller appears as not activated and I'm not able to activate it. If there is no update soon that solves this issue I will try to downgrade to Ventura.

Nice video congrats. You recommend Sonoma for Mac Pro 5,1?
Yes, definitely (still some more testing needed maybe). Safe option is Monterey
@@JessiesFlyingThanks.
I installed 0.6.8 with Monterey on a late 2012 iMac with an external USB 3 boot drive, and while it worked fine, reboots took forever (like over 5 minutes). I did this on a cloned drive so had to go back to Catalina. Maybe I'll give this one a try and see if it's any different.

Hey Jessie,
Just came across your channel.
Unfortunately, I am caught in a strange variant of the boot cycle.
I tried to update on a MBP 2012, having used opencore for a number of years now.
14.1
My MBP boots straight to the login screen, then when I enter my password the login progress bar reachers halfway before restarting with a white screen, then black screen with progress bar, which eventually goes to recovery mode.
I’ve tried reverting back to previous, as per your terminal tutorial, but it still won’t boot?
Just wondering what on earth I can do?
did that start after an update?
keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!

I used Terminal method to reset and I received error messages (i.e., "...not permitted), so I thought it might not work, yet it did - successfully connected Bluetooth and still holding after reboot. Besides, upgrading RAM (i.e., I have orig. 4GB ((2GB+2GB in 2 slots)) and 2 empty slots), how else (i.e., dedicate HDD/Cache/SW) can I temporarily speed up my iMAC 12,2 before I add RAM? Hi Jessie, I have been running some macOS generations on external SSD for the iMac 2017 5K 27-inch (iMac18,3) for some years. The iMac becomes upsupported now. I can use OCLP 1.0.1 to prepare a Sonoma macOS Installer and successfully install on and run from the internal Fusion Drive; BUT, Sonoma with OCLP 1.0.1 fails to startup using the external SSD drive. What's the problem and how to fix it? Can you make a video for it? I believe many iMac 2017 users like me are running on external SSD. Thank you,
The problem is that only after root patch the macOS has drivers for USB. So it might not recognize external drive before macOS has loaded. But I’m trying to get an iMac 2017 for further testing 👍
Hi Jessie, you talk about the rx 580 on mp 2012. Is The old patched metal 580 enough or you need a more recent with higher resolution? Btw, still on monterey with noisy fan since i upgraded from big sur, probably waiting a lil more for the sonoma upgrade.
I don’t have a patched RX580, it’s a regular PC gpu… 👍
I have a MacBook Air 2015. With 4 gb ram. I have open core legacy with Ventura running on it. And it works fine. Is Sonoma an option?

But the elements appear when moving mouse over it. Perhaps someone has a hint for me.
