Hi. Am seriously planning on getting this hub. However if the iPad Pro is thunderbolt and the hub is USBc with cord how will I connect both . Will I have to buy an adopter to convert the usbc cord to thunderbolt???? Guys please help out
Hey Patrick, do you know how well the hub runs if I want to stream videos from my iPad to a TV screen/monitor? Will sound come out via the HDMI from the iPad to the monitor? Is there a lag like I get when I try to use Screen Mirroring (via Apple TV feature)?
Another option that I have used on my IPAD Pro is a USB C to twin HDMI ports adapter. Using the adapter I have plugged the Pro into two 29 inch monitors and it worked on all screens.
Selling point is not necessary if you don't need it. It's like comparing GPus if you are interested if upgrading from a rtx 2080 to a rtx 3080. With an ipad 2020 to a m1 iPad I believe there's less if a jump or upgrade.
I have to say: from an engineering standpoint that dock with the integrated NVMe is just brilliant! You have a highspeed hub and highspeed memory all in one neat lightweight combo. Finally a product designer used his head... 😁😎👍
try not to say gee-bee-pee-ess since the case of the b means bits for lower case and bytes for upper case and they are quite different. So just say giga bytes per second or gig bits per second depending on what you mean
That was refreshing. While other reviewers are trying to return the M1 iPad due to the RAM limitations Apple has placed on some third party apps, your vids are positive and offer some workarounds. And who knows, maybe this article will help restore Apple’s M1 iPad’s sour reputation:
It's only sour if your expecting to have one application use up all of the system ram. People forget there are other applications that may need to run and use ram simultaneously.
Patrick - I am interested in a dock with NVME capacity like this one; could you do a more in depth review of it? I would be interested in speed & transfer demos like - 1) SD card to NVME speed, and 2) SD card to iPad speed. Thanks.

So i was trying to figure how to get it to get to the photos save to the external one, and also would like to know if I can save photos from the camera so to my ssd. Do I need to download something?? Any help or suggestions would be great!! Thanks, Rob
Hi Rob, the Acasis has a slot for an NVME ssd. It also has slots for micro SD and SD. So you can take the card out of your camera, transfer the footage or images straight to the NVME on the Acasis, without having to download it to your iPad first. You will use the files app on the iPad to do this. Both your SD card and the NVME SSD show up as storage options, so you just copy from one to the other.
Thanks for the info. 👍 Can the Acasis hub or any hub you know run without external power? Hey Patrick question…. Does this Acasis hub. Will it allow the IPad to connect to a display such as the older Apple Thunderbolt Display. I have my MacBook Pro through it using a usb-c to older thunderbolt dongle. Will this port do essentially same thing for IPad ?
I just wish it had better options built in the OS still. I have a thunderbolt dock and using the iPad with it is annoying because even still, there is no way to manual select audio output, so it defaults to the headphone jack instead of using either my iPad speakers, or my monitor speakers.
thank you for good info.. but i worry about the maximum speed limitation when i use Nvme ssd, hdmi external monitor, usb-c port audio interface, usb keyboard and mouse all simultaneously
I don’t mean to be be negative but many others have pointed out that the Thunderbolt 4 port has been hamstrung for some reason and is only just faster than a USB C port on the Mac book at transferring data and no where near as fast as the thunderbolt 4 port on a a MacBook.
That's correct. For the time being anyway. But this hub is a UCB C hub, not a TB hub and it's capped at 1000mbps, so that doesn't really matter in this context.
That looks amazing. Don’t really need TB speeds on the portable travel , jus function. Is there a version w/ mic & line in as well as DisplayPort or do I just add a DisplayPort to HDMI sync adapter & UDB audio?

I bought a 2tb Crucial P5 Nvme during black friday of last year, and a $89 thunderbolt enclosure. Twice the storage of the Lacie, for significantly less money. still waiting on delivery, but I imagine it’ll compare favorably in performance head to head.
Great stuff. I do like the ACASIS hub/SSD storage. I thought you were going to explain why we should not be concerned about a non-Thunderbolt 4 device??? I can't wait for your full review of the iPad Pro 2021!
Haha you're right, I realized later that I didn't verbally come back that. What I was going to say is that it would have been an issue if I wanted to daisy chain a TB SSD to it, since it's a USB C drive, but it doesn't matter because it's got its own SSD inside.
Thanks Patrick, found your channel and loved the site. I followed your advise and purchased the iPad Pro 12.9” version along with the Acasis hub. Also purchased the 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 2 TB for it and I’m having a complete nightmare getting it to work along with initializing the SSD. Everyone is excited about it but mine is not working. Your guidance and help say a video on how to initialize it would be great. I’m at my wicks end any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.
Hey Patrick, is there an easy way to chat and ask some specific question about the iPad Pro and the magic keyboard? In particular your thoughts on RAM and external drive use for my application...
Hey, it would be great to see you actually using it to show off it's functionality and whether or not it is the real deal, instead of just talking about it
Many thanks for your informative videos - iPad novice here - wanting ability to draw purchased 1st iPad (wow pencil incredibly responsive). Justified ipad Pro 12.9” with magic keyboard hoping to stand in for aging macbook pro (early 2015 13” retina 16GB) and streamline to one main device. Question may be too pedestrian for your audience. I got bogged down with the eternal internet tunnels trying to decide on best suited accessories (not even accessories but needs - didn’t even clue in that it only came with one port) Hub and back up storage - without overkill but also future proof (if that is something to consider). 2 in 1 aspect of Acasis sounds smart but my concern using for back ups - .is it wise to use a hub as a back up which is transported with the ipad. ie if stolen/lost then I lose all data? Am I smarter to get a seperate hub and SSD? also my macbook is at full capacity so need somewhere to store excess (photos etc) ...Is an SSD able to store from both devices? Unrelated question..eek...: still running Mojave 10.14.6 - once free some storage is it advisable to upgrade to latest operating system or/ something more recent or/ is my computer too old? Anyone recommend a good intro video for iPad pro covering storage , use the cloud, how everything syncs, organizing (so doesn't end up a mess like my laptop)..I have a clean slate :)
Never keep your stuff only one an external drive. You could lose it but also every drive fails at some stage. Depending on your budget, you might invest in a NAS drive to back things up, get a subscription to Backblaze, or simply use Dropbox.
Hi Rob, I don't think there is one right way to do it. What I would ALWAYS recommend though is to make at least two copies. I store everything on SSD drives. But all drives fail at some point, so I store those same files in the cloud. As a third backup, I use a NAS system. This last option is a bit more complicated and since you indicated you're not that well versed on the subject, my recommendation would be to store your video files on an SSD and back that up in the cloud as well.
Tried to follow that link to the hub and it looks like their campaign is closed now, do you by chance have a new link to get this hub? I tried the baseus 8 in 1, was able to use it successfully one time, and the next time I plugged it in, it was FUBAR, so I’ve been on the hunt for a durable hub.
Hi Patrick, is the device still available? I checked the link and I can only follow on Twitter. Please advise as I’m receiving my IPad Pro on Friday and would like to be ready. Great Video and many thanks!!
I did end up getting one of these hubs :) I have a different kind of generic hub but I can use that for while I wait for this to come in :) I really like the idea of at any time I like I can add an nvme ssd to this and immediately expand my storage instead of bringing an external drive if I don't feel like it. I love the idea of bring one lightweight and portable hub in my backpack then a hub plus hard drives so this is nice and the sale makes it a lot better, thanks for linking it :) I went for the silver color to match the ipad
I love it, man. It's the NVME memory for me as well. As a hub, it's just a good hub, nothing special. But the combination and the light weight makes it so good. My wish is for them to make a TB version in the future with speeds over 1000mbps.
@@PatrickRambles Yess, that would be awesome if they made a TB version :D and that is definitely what got me was the NVME memory. I like the idea of just being able to swap them if I need to and got a nice hub out of it :)
I doubt you will see this comment as old as this video is but I have an iPad 11” pro with a 7 in 1 USB C Hub and I’m brand new to Apple products. What I can’t figure out is how to use my micro SD music with iTunes or my Galleries with Photo. Is this possible for these apps to see removable media like local or cloud storage?
Hi Gregg, I hate iTunes with a passion and avoid using it. You should be able to copy your photos from your micro SD to your gallery, using the Files app.
@@PatrickRambles thanks for the reply and the link Patrick! BTW, only found your channel a week ago, really found your reviews useful and your style easy-going, and subscribed 👍👍
Hi there Patrick!! Is there any 2TB SSD with low power consumption that you know of, that can work on the M1 Pro without the extra power adapter??🙂 I read this hub uses 5v or so; so perhaps a 2TB SSD that can work with that amount of power from the M1?? Thanks a lot, I’d appreciate your thoughts on this very much🙋🏻♂
@@PatrickRambles thanks for the reply, mate. I got sort of an answer from Acasis themselves saying; "Hello, from the SSD we've tested we didn't find the 2TB consumption lower than 4.5W, it depends on SSD performance. Please consult professional SSD manufacturers about this". I basically want to find a 2TB SSD I can use for my 10 in 1 Acasis hub/enclosure, but I do not want to use an extra power cable. I now this is possible with a 1TB SSD(NVME card), but I'd like to find a way to put in a 2TB NVME... Tha's all. Thanks for your help.

Hi Phil, are you sure? It should lead to Indiegogo. You can "back" the device by selecting a perk. Acasis will then ship it out to you once the Indiegogo campaign has ended.
cool accessory, but i dont need it. i connect my camera to my pc, and copy my files from my camera to pc to ipad pro. ssd would still need stuff copied to it from pc. so its just another step in the process. the keyboard is definitely an accessory i would consider as need for most people. but not me atm. maybe later.
Hey man, thanks for the comment. Actually, you don't need a PC in this setup. You copy straight from camera SD to the SSD in the Acasis, using the iPad as the file management system.
Can anyone clarify or comment on the portability of this device? I was told that devices like these shouldn’t be carried around as the vibrations from carrying this in your backpack or bag will wipe the memory of the nvme ssd or even break the nvme even if it’s properly installed and secured. Please help, I’m looking to purchase this for my IPad Pro M2 12.3 and am constantly moving around from classroom to classroom, lab to lab and library to wherever. Beside at my dorm, I will never be setup in one place for longer than 2 hours.
Where you able to get the SD card to work on your iPad? I can’t get that or the HDMI to work and I haven’t been able to get a response from Acasis. Everything else works great on my iPad.
@@PatrickRambles I got the SSD to work after formatting it using a borrowed apple laptop. I still can’t get the HDMI to work. Is there a setting on the iPad that I might be missing that would allow video output thru the hub? Acasis doesn’t have any troubleshooting information on the iPad. Appreciate your help.
What do you know, a positive review of the M1 iPad Pro. I have one on order fully configured, and with a keyboard, pen, and AppleCare-less, it's about $3k-ish. I already know that I may hate the damn thing,' but I'm sick and tired of failed keyboards and displays on my last two MacBook/MacBook Pros.' When I reviewed the apps that I use on my MacBook Pro, I figured the iPad could run most of them with minimal compromise. Still, I remain skeptical, but I look forward to receiving it. By the way, I liked your video.
I have a question. I have an iPad Pro. 2017. Barely used and I have a Mac computer. I would like to transfer some magazine and tutorials and patterns I have downloaded onto my Mac. Off the Mac and onto a drive that is portable and would work well with my iPad. Any suggestions?
I wouldn't mind one of the docks but they seem very expensive for what you get I mean I paid £27 for mine it's got two SD card slots and HDMI connection USB connection headphone socket and power connector for £27. Yes I know they got more connections on but they want nearly £300.?
I have that Logitech combo touch and I honestly have a really difficult time imagining that the Magic Keyboard is not only better but so much better to spring a hundred and twenty bucks more than the Logitech case, I didn't really want to spend that much but it was a better price than the Magic Keyboard. I will say, I have not used the magic keyboard but can it actually be over a hundred bucks better? With my experience using the logitech I have no complaints on the typing experience it's pretty comfy for me and I'm used to mechanical kailh silver speedswitches.
I guess it all comes down to preference. I prefer the magic keyboard. I don't find kickstand particularly useful (especially on a lap) and I like the hinge on the magic keyboard. I like the passthrough charging so I have my TB port available for accessories and I don't like having to put my iPad in and out of a case. With the Magic keyboard it just pops off. Same for the keyboard, I like the scissor switches but I know lots of people prefer mechanical. It's really down to what works for you. The price on the magic keyboard is too high. Although I've seen it drop since the new white one is out.
@@PatrickRambles Hmm, that is really good points to bring up. For me the kickstand isn't a problem but the hinge would be a lot nicer, I definitely agree. Charging isn't a big deal since I'm stuck in a bed I can just plug it in as I need but I do wish there was that charger on the side would be nice. Ah, I see. That is good that the price has dropped a little, it's just so expensive. Totally fair points, I'm glad it's more a preference cause I see everyone rave about it but it's just so much if you add it on to the price of whatever Ipad you're getting. Thanks for bringing those points up though :D
Good video really helpful so I did end up picking up the ACASIS hub , my issue now is that it doesnt seem to read the 1tb on my ipad . Do you know what I could be doing wrong ?
Hi Patrick. I bought a ACASIS Hub after watching your channel about it but cannot figure out how to move or copy files from iPad air 4 to the Acasis hub. If I copy or move say a .pdf file in the File app and open the Acasis folder, I guess, there is NOT an option to move or paste it anywhere to the Acasis hub NVME. I can copy, only, a file from Acasis to the File app though. So how do I move files from the iPad to the Acasis hub?
Haha, that is neither small nor light. At 145g it is twice as heavy as all the other usb-c multiport dongles with all the same ports. But that included SSD slot really is intriguing....I'm definitely gonna order one of those.

Hey man, thanks for the kind words and sorry to hear you're having issues. What exactly is the hurdle? Can't format the ssd?
woah that thing is sick
Right? Thanks for stopping by, Patrick 👊
Can you edit 5 or 6k footage with this iPad ? I’m looking at getting one I have the Dji mavic 3 an need a iPad that can handle the 5.1k footage?
Very nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey Patrick, is there an easy way to chat and ask some specific question about the iPad Pro and the magic keyboard? In particular your thoughts on RAM and external drive use for my application...
We need more videos like this!
Coming right up!
Can’t wait for the full review Patrick!😁😁😁
Don't worry, it's coming 😁
Hellow there GREAT FREAKING VIDEO I LOVE IT
Thank you!
I just found the BYEASY USB C Hub. A magnetic stand with build inn hub. It's perfect and reasonable price! greets from Belgium :)
Just found you* thank you Fernando.
Great content. Of course, subbed
Thanks Charlie! (And Fernando :))
Brilliant video. Everything I need in one!
Currently on vacation and it's the only hub I brought. Genuinely live this thing 👍
Hey, it would be great to see you actually using it to show off it's functionality and whether or not it is the real deal, instead of just talking about it
Hey man! I hear ya. I'm gonna dedicate a video to the TB port, where I'll be doing speed and other tests.
I second that. It's exactly what I'm looking for, but it seemed a little weird that he had it and didn't plug it in.
He’s gonna find it ain’t that fast. Especially writing to external SSD....
Actually there's a new acasis hub with thunderbolt 3 port, but it doesn't support sd card.
Acasis is a game changer 😇✌️
Nearly at 13k Patrick 🇮🇪💯
Yes ma'am 😃
Many thanks for your informative videos - iPad novice here - wanting ability to draw purchased 1st iPad (wow pencil incredibly responsive). Justified ipad Pro 12.9” with magic keyboard hoping to stand in for aging macbook pro (early 2015 13” retina 16GB) and streamline to one main device.
Question may be too pedestrian for your audience. I got bogged down with the eternal internet tunnels trying to decide on best suited accessories (not even accessories but needs - didn’t even clue in that it only came with one port)
Hub and back up storage - without overkill but also future proof (if that is something to consider).
Some of this goes over my head if I’m honest. Can I ask you what’s the best way to store some really important old video footage? Quality imperative
@@PatrickRambles thanks Patrick, really appreciate your time to comment. I will look into it. And yes definitely have back ups.
wow that device seems insanely useful! great share! thanks
Thanks! It's great :)
Apple lock the speed to 600MB/s, we are very far of 5 000MB/s from the Thunderbolt 3 protocol
Hi, do you need power to this unit to use it with your ipad to save and retrieve data from the SSD card?
Hi Steve, nope. I think powering the device is needed for display support but not for reading or writing to SSD.
Patrick, any strong recommendations for the NVMe memory, brands to use etc?
Yes! Here is what I am using: geni.us/CLBSXB
@@PatrickRambles thanks for the reply and the link Patrick! BTW, only found your channel a week ago, really found your reviews useful and your style easy-going, and subscribed 👍👍
Thanks David, I appreciate it!
Hi there Patrick!! Is there any 2TB SSD with low power consumption that you know of, that can work on the M1 Pro without the extra power adapter??🙂 I read this hub uses 5v or so; so perhaps a 2TB SSD that can work with that amount of power from the M1?? Thanks a lot, I’d appreciate your thoughts on this very much🙋🏻♂
Hi Julio. Do you mean an NVME enclosure or an external SSD?
What version of Bluetooth does this new iPad use? Thank you.
Are you referring to the M1 used in the video or the upcoming M2?
@@PatrickRambles One or both would be nice to know. The 2019 iPad Pro, which I own, 0nly has Bluetooth 4.0. Not good enough to transmit 96/24 audio. Nice review, BTW. Good to know about excellent accessories.
Typical found the genius of a product and it can seem like there is no longer or at this time possible to order it :) . Will just have to wait and see hehe
Hey man, sorry the campaign ended a few days ago. I'm checking with them now to see how you can order one.
@@PatrickRambles wow that is so cool and amazing that a UA-camr is is good at answering people in the comment field . Looked through earlier comments from other subscribers and impressed how many you answer . By the way love your channel you have my dream job commenting and testing tech which is my favourite hobby and interest :)
Thanks for the kind words :)
ACASIS device looks cool. Can’t buy it from your link though.
That would be handy for dumping and backing up memory cards on location 🙌🏽
Exactly. You can transfer from SD to NVME without transferring to the iPad first.
Where you able to get the SD card to work on your iPad? I can’t get that or the HDMI to work and I haven’t been able to get a response from Acasis. Everything else works great on my iPad.
Hey Mike, yes everything works fine on my end. I hope it's not a faulty unit...
Will ipad pro support 2000MB/s external ssd????
What do you know, a positive review of the M1 iPad Pro. I have one on order fully configured, and with a keyboard, pen, and AppleCare-less, it's about $3k-ish. I already know that I may hate the damn thing,' but I'm sick and tired of failed keyboards and displays on my last two MacBook/MacBook Pros.' When I reviewed the apps that I use on my MacBook Pro, I figured the iPad could run most of them with minimal compromise. Still, I remain skeptical, but I look forward to receiving it. By the way, I liked your video.
Hey Daniel, It's a great device, but I too did a little rant video on the shortcomings of iPadOS 15 😅
And we need pro apps like Logic and Final cut like yesterday! 👽
Hello is this works with an Ipad 9th generation, thank you :)
Yes it should work. Although the port is slower.
Hi Cheryl, do you need those files to be on an external drive, or do you just want them on your iPad?
Excellent presentation I think I need one of those from my laptop as well
Thanks!
I wouldn't mind one of the docks but they seem very expensive for what you get
I mean I paid £27 for mine it's got two SD card slots and HDMI connection USB connection headphone socket and power connector for £27. Yes I know they got more connections on but they want nearly £300.?
Have heard anything about the need to change the SSD cards format for Apple IOS ?
This thing looks dope ! Can’t wait for your full iPad review , Patrick !
Working on it! :)
And I just ordered a new hub to try with the iPad
🔥🔥🔥
It's too expensive. Fully agreed.
Other reviews have said the thunderbolt 3 transfer speeds are very slow and nowhere near what they should be.
That's true Pete, they are throttled. Not as fast as we had hoped.
Good video really helpful so I did end up picking up the ACASIS hub , my issue now is that it doesnt seem to read the 1tb on my ipad . Do you know what I could be doing wrong ?
Hi Tony, do you mean your iPad doesn't recognize the NVME?
@@PatrickRambles it didn’t but I figured it out , I had to format the nvme first then it recognized it … Ty for your quick response
Ah. Glad you got it sorted!
Need help- just purchased 2021 M1 iPad Pro- please advise best budget hub. Just the basics for the ports. But reliable. Thank you all.
Check out the ones by Anker.
Merci
Hi Chris, that's strange. You should be able to copy both ways. Have you tried formatting the NVME?
@@PatrickRambles Well on further inspection I see I formated in NTFS instead of exFAT. Thanks for the nudge.
Glad it's fixed!
Haha, that is neither small nor light. At 145g it is twice as heavy as all the other usb-c multiport dongles with all the same ports. But that included SSD slot really is intriguing....I'm definitely gonna order one of those.
Hey man! Well yeah exactly that, it's two in one, which makes it small :)
