    I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!

    Why so much hate for this woman who is living the live she wants. What are you doing to contribute to this world. There is already too much hatred in our societies, why spread it even more when you can embrace empathy and compassion for one another. Get a life

      I was thinking the same thing! It is so refreshing to see so many people change the way they live because they want to be the example and not preach about it! I love it! For me becoming a highly raw vegan was number one! I am on to number two and 3 now! I live on six acres and have planted my garden and fruit trees! Step 3, cobb/earthship home and solar panels!

      Genghis Chuan this lady isn't actually living carbon neutral, and I agree, her virtue signaling is annoying. However, climate change is real. Fossil fuel use is the greatest contributor. Companies like Monsanto often do terrible things, and agriculture does contribute to climate change, but it is not the leading cause. Is there a type of proof that would convince you? Tell me what you'd need to see and I'll see if I can find it.

    Damn. Instead of analyzing the woman and trying to prove that she's wrong somewhere or makes a footprint on this earth: Ask yourself first: What are YOU doing to protect the planet? Do YOU try to reduce your waste? Do YOU try to buy less stuff?
    Don't judge people, be inspired and make it better if you can. I like her story.

    This was so inspiring to watch! And I love that she’s at least trying to do what she preaches - not many people do that even if they are aware.
    I think what she meant by a “carbon-neutral” lifestyle is not that she produces zero net carbon, rather she minimizes carbon produced in life and then plants trees in Indonesia to make up for her “remaining” emissions. Of course she knows as an ecology professor her van transportation produces carbon.
    Enough with the critics - let’s try to move our own lifestyles 1% more towards carbon neutral in our own capacities.

    Thank you for first making this video, Dylan.. Then a big thanks to Jeanine, for showing her bus and part of her life. Her idea to just move her one room apartment into the bus, gave me a sense of relief. See I also live in a bus, and other than my full size bed, I have not nor am I able to build anything else. Now I'll just purchase the "things ", I can't build myself. Example: (a small sink & cabinet set)
    Thank you!
    Her bus (home) is great!!

    Like the way she did the screen yet kept the windows open that is pretty smart. Induction with pressure cooker is the way to go but she can also give it a go with solar cookers . Don't have to cook things that are expensive I would solar cook things like whole potatoes onions bread. Reason I say low cost things it you set it away from your ride you don't worry so much about losing a little low cost food. Best to have a group of people go in with cooking.
    For me it is all about the money and being off grid you can keep the carbon calculations to me that is like going to the beach and starting to count the grains of sand on the beach? You are there to enjoy the beach not to audit it.

  • @fakesmilez1
    @fakesmilez1 7 років тому +1

    Clearly people in the comments do not understand Carbon Neutrality. Thus, I'll just post the definitions for you: Carbon neutrality, or having a net zero carbon footprint, refers to achieving net zero carbon emissions by balancing a measured amount of carbon released with an equivalent amount sequestered or offset, or buying enough carbon credits to make up the difference. Carbon offsetting is done by paying others to remove or sequester 100% of the carbon dioxide emitted from the atmosphere - for example by planting trees or by buying carbon credits to remove (or 'retire') them through carbon trading.

    I respect this woman, well done, but I have some questions. If she earned a decent salary, would she prefer living in a conventional apartment / house? Are we being folled here by the small is better / bigger is worse? Its perfectly possible these days to build larger and sustainable houses. Also, who is going to fight for affordable housing and rent in cities? That still is a problem for many people who cant even afford to go small. And if you have a family? To me, living small is like putting a plaster, but it wont cure the illness.

    Very cool story, its nice that she's trying to practise what she preeches by trying to be carbon neautral. One thing we all can do dramatically help the climate change is stop eating all animal products which is the biggest contributor to climate change on the planet. We don't have to rely on the government or anybody, its something that we all can do to reduce the biggest contributor. Of course switching to electric bulbs, being more mindful of water/electricity consumption, biking more, less driving, buying less electronics, these well all great and can help too, they are however supplementary, not the leading cause to climate change. Let's make better choices. Great documentary to watch about climate change is called Cowspiracy (can be found on netflix)

    • @hawkeyepierce9794
      @hawkeyepierce9794 7 років тому +3

      You're part of the problem too Yanev. The land and resources needed just to feed you takes away land and resources that could go to feed other animals and even plants. And that's not the half of it. Mining the rare-earths needed to make the computer you're using or the camera you took that sweet photo with comes at a pretty steep cost to the environment (as this article makes very clear www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/rare-earth-mining-china-social-environmental-costs)
      This is to say nothing of the fossil fuels burned to collect, refine, and transport the raw materials need to make your electronics, clothes, house, etc.
      You can play pretend all you want and make believe that your lifestyle doesn't damage the environment. But know those of us who actually know the true cost of human civilization are laughing our asses off you pathetic little vegans.

    • @luboyanev
      @luboyanev 7 років тому +3

      @Hawkeye Of course, living in a western world has a big impact and is not a Zero-emission fairy-tale lifestyle. But simply not eating meat has a massive impact (animal agriculture and animal products consumption are the lead contributors to global warming, along with deforestation, animal extinction, and many other issues).
      There is a very good documentary about the environment called Cowspiracy www.cowspiracy.com/ (also on netflix) It'smust watch for anyone interested in protecting the environment

    Love the colors and different fabrics. However, there's too much stuff. Looks like you just stuffed your studio apartment into a small bus. Having so much bus weight ( from stuff) doesn't it increase the use of gas and therefore adds to the pollution.

    Wow very impressive and I just have a minor observation. Propane's very safe and she should try a) buy a quality brand new empty tank, b) check the manufacture date on the tank is new and not "years old", c) refuel the tank and not exchange, and d) replace the tank as recommended by manufacture. I did it at my cabin in Santa Cruz Mountains with a 30lb propane tank hooked up to a stove. It didn't trigger CO2 alarm so it's safe to use inside. But it should store outside for a different reason, e.g. someone broke into my cabin and cooked when I was absence. But I was thankful the gas was off afterward. She left a note to someone else and complaining too. That was funny.

    PS. I love the idea of the adopted family. I was stationed in the Philippines when I was in the Air Force. I might want to clean from your adopted family concept as I currently have many many friends from Facebook in the Philippines. And perhaps find me one family that as I learn from you I can be of service to them. Awesome ideas.

    Someone just stole my shuttle bus, i was all set to live it soon. I am now without any money, without income and can't even pay the rent on my room in Santa Cruz at the moment.

    She does realize that all her students just need an extra class so they take hers? I can guarantee only like 2 or 3 of the students care about the class.

    Fantastic video and outlook! Are you vegan as well? I was shocked at the carbon footprint eating meat creates. I am purposefully trying to reduce my footprint as well, going vegan was a big step in that direction. We are now gearing up to sell all of our stuff that we don't need and minimize our lifestyle. Thanks for the info you shared here!

    MOST EVERYTHING IN THERE USED A TON OF POWER TO MAKE. I'M SURPRISED SHE DOESN'T BURY HER FOOD DEEP IN THE GROUND TO KEEP COOL. IT USES ENERGY TO MAKE ICE, PLASTIC COOLER, CLOTHES,WALL HANGINGS, ALL THE SHOWER CURTAINS,GAS SHE USES TO DRIVE THAT TANK OF A BUS, REALLY LESS CARBON????????

    I would like to see the "privy" and shower. Do you use your toilet and shower in your vehicle or do you shower and "go" somewhere else. If you don't show people a clear description of your solar setup or your toilet and shower setup, what is the point of this video. Can you share with us the recommendations of your students so we can benefit from the information?
