All of them in the building, should have been shot for breaking into the Capitol buildimg, and destroying property, that my taxes are used for the elected, house of representents, and senators.

The problem is it could also make them angrier. Or, to avoid friendly fire, they would have to shoot at the front of the line which would make everywhere they weren't aiming a place for someone to grab them. If that happened the crowd would 1) have more weapons and 2) those who had them would feel more justified in using them. It could have backfired beyond control and they had no idea when sufficient backup would be there to clean it up.

That shooting was completely unjustified. A white, unarmed, non-combative small female was murdered by the capitol police. She presented zero threat to the officer, right before she was murdered, 4-5 police officers calmly walk past her, if she was such a threat why didn't they shoot her? It's a shame that she doesn't get any protest, rioting, looting, celebrity attention etc. Like these actual violent criminals with a diff skin color get all the time.

That officer had plenty reason to see her as a threat to not only himself but the congressmen/women that were STILL in the room right next to him. You can hear the gunshot in videos taken by those taking cover and it sounds louder than the squeals of the person next to the camera - that's how close it was. Rioters smashed the windows with their fists right in front of him. They said things like we aren't here for you...indicating what? They are there for the people he is paid to protect with his life. Officers had been screaming over radio for help and saying officers were injured all over the place and backup was needed. It had been declared a riot. Byrd knew that if one person came through that window that they broke out, the whole crowd was coming. He told her to stop and several people screamed next to her there was a gun and he has a gun and she kept going. Hell he didn't get to his rank by being an idiot and even lowest ranking officers knew there was risk to shooting - it could make the people angrier, thus more dangerous - so it had to be a last resort. That also speaks to why she wasn't shot as she was hoisted up but as she leaned in and was actually making entry. Let's not even get to the threats being chanted against multiple politicians.
That door was the last line of defense and allowing breach would have been against everything his he would have been taught. They would have never been able to stop that huge crowd once they came through...it was a last stand. Unfortunate and heartbreaking, yes, but I'm not sure what else he was supposed to allow to happen first. He knew other officers had been injured. He knew who the crowd wanted. He knew how close they were to having access to both him and the actual targets that again his duty was to protect. And he did stop them from making entry.
I feel horrible for Ashli and her family and wish it hasn't happened. But she knew what breaking into a federal building with people threatening politicians could entail and it's insulting to her intelligence and experience to say otherwise.
