Listening to the insight of Officer Michael Fanone with Trevor Noah truly brought me to a level of understanding of the complexity of being one as he was, as a policeman protecting the capitol on 1/6/21. Appreciation to Officer Fanone for taking his first-hand experience in protecting our national capitol and what actually came down on that day-- to those he was protecting, himself, and other capitol police officers.
People like him cannot be written off as being of little significance! He and all others who put their lives on the line on that sorrowful day need to be listened to and respected, just as those he and his fellow police did that day!
All people serving our country-- please listen to Officer Fanone. He fought to protect who we are as a country as written in our constitution. We are a democracy with the right to vote and to have our votes counted as set forward in our constitution. Period. Thank you for your dedication and service to our country, Officer Fanone.

I know I’m repeating myself here in these comments but Fanone has said he voted for Trump in 2016. Don't know about 2020. But if you listen closely, he doesn't sound like someone who was defending the constitution, or voting rights for all, or our right to have our votes actually count. He expressed none those concerns. He spoke vaguely about how lawmakers aren't representing their constituents, as if it's a universal problem, which it is not. The Dems have many problems incl ethical, but they aren't voting the opposite of what their constituents want like the Republicans are.

I think Trevor Noah would be a great addition to NPR. He is so very well prepared for each and every interview, and is very articulate. He has such a diverse overview of world politics, economy, racism, political systems, and human interrelationships, that he is able to compare and contrast in a way most of us have no previous experience and insight. He uses his sense of humor as a communication tool--which encourages people to listen, while allowing him to speak of topics which most of those listeners would tune out, turn off, berate him with criticism, or people would throw objects at him in many settings. It is a great loss to Comedy Central and the USA for him to depart, but I applaud him and wish him well.

He didn’t say anything in this interview to suggest he comprehends the seriousness of the insurrection and its implications for our country. I’m obviously sorry he was so brutally treated, but it has nothing to do w honor.

Interesting how the peaceful George Floyd rally in the capital back in June 2020 had soldiers of the army’s 82nd airborne division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as well as the 3rd US infantry regiment, from Washington DC, mobilized as demonstrators protested against police brutality and systemic racism. Whereas this rally didn’t have the same security. ( and don’t tell me the FBI or CIA didn’t know about the threat of violence. Someone in the high ranks connected to Trump is responsible for this security failure. ) I like this policeman’s direct truthfulness and common sense We need to listen to all professionals working in the trenches for remedies and truth- not politicians.

Your use of “Rally” is the type of indifferent speech he described useless politicians use. The nation wide protests against racism in the police force is far different from the pointed, chaotic attack on the US Capitol.
