I really hated doublets and then in the future you made buttons and I was in awe. Good job in the future, don't tell your self your going to make opal doublet buttons or else the entire future could be jeopardized

@@PulitzerOpal surely you can't tell me about it and not show me what it looks like. If you ever get a chance sneak a quick pic of it in a future clip or on your Facebook page and I'll take a look, cheers

Much appreciated. I finally got my first little piece of lightning ridge opal polished up. I used a smaller, thin piece so I wouldn’t waste my better. I’m extremely happy with the results but wasn’t sure what I could actually do with it since it’s so fragile. Quick question. I have 60-70 pounds of every type of obsidian, would straight black obsidian be recommended or would some of the more unique types add to the looks? Something like rainbow or fire obsidian? Or should I just take the advice given and use ironstone? Any advice is greatly appreciated and thanks for helping me along my journey with opal. It has truly been my favorite stone/gemstone amongst all I have worked with.

The black backing sure does bring out the colour! Thanks for sharing.

Can you do a video sometime that explains what to do with a concave piece of opal? Imagine you take an egg shell and cut it in half equator ways, then remove the top section and look into the egg shell and on the bottom inside the shell it is lined with really nice opal that is worth attempting to save. That is my predicament, I have no way to contact you but to leave this on a few messages and see if you get back to me so sorry if its annoying but I havent seen anybody explain how to deal with that situation. I have been considering setting it in hard epoxy resin and then just grinding the whole stone off underneath it, just leaving the opal layer in epoxy. That away the opal would be concave but oriented in the right way, so instead of dipping in it mounds out. It's a pothole and it needs to be a speed bump. Thanks in advance for any help or info you can give, I watch all your vidgas and i have subscribed and liked (that how i know you dont barley answer your facebook, you said it in 1 video). You can email me directly at thomasnance777@gmail.com if you would rather just talk there. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Why go to the trouble of the backing material? Just use a layer of dyed dark epoxy, gives strength without the fuss.

One tip that I would give is to take a butanburner and very fast burn the epoxy for some miliseconds befor aplying the stone.
That will make most bubbles pop and disapeare. And it does not harm the epoxy, if anybody is worried about that..
