- A quick video to show you how to start your truck if you are stuck with the 'Service DEF System - ENGINE WILL NOT RESTART!' . It's a quick fix, nothing permanent. But at least, you will be able to move your truck if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks, this saved me. I connected two wires with a button and used my truck like that for 3 months and then the issue went away and till this day the issue never came back, and that was 2 years ago.
Glad it helped!
Lol aint that def shit a joke
You saved me a huge headache and was able to still use my truck while waiting on the parts to arrive to fix it, thank you my friend I am truly grateful
This legit worked, same model except we had a push start instead of key. We kept the foot on the break. Drove about 400 miles after the message came on. Got diesel once while the truck was still on. Thanks for the great life saving video!
JBalgo you are the man!
Stuck in the middle of know where and I can't start my truck thank you saved the day!!!! -40 out
Glad that this video helped. Did exactly the same thing?
I'm in Alaska and my DEF froze did you have any issues with it freezing? I don't have a garage BTW.
@@joeirigoyen7327 ya Joe I had to run for 2 hours and then it idled for about 20 Mins heaters I guess finally unfreeze it just delete the crap it's garbage
@Kc Yukon thanks. Yeah, my truck was dead in the water. Jumped the starter solenoid and ran the crap out of it and the service def truck won't start went away. It's also 30 above, so it thawed out. Deleting the system for sure, as winters here in Fairbanks are harsh and will go through it all over again. Thanks for the info.
@@joeirigoyen7327 yep I'm looking at deleting mine asap just waiting for my guy to figure it out... government and there bullshit never works... government is a joke
This was a life saver! Have a 2016 1500 EcoDiesel - worked perfectly. Thanks! Was able to get home during a long road trip.
Glad it helped! You did exactly the same thing ?
@@forumjeep Yup. Message came on about 350 miles from home while pulling my camper. I found the video but didn't want to chance it not working so when I came home and parked the camper and truck, I tried it. Worked perfect. Was able to start it many times and told my mechanic in case he didn't know so he could move the truck around. Turns out, the dealer I took the truck to in VA to replace the nox sensor never did the checks that follow.
@@MorpheusJay For myself it was pretty crazy. I was in the Maine at the beach and on my way back to Quebec, Canada i got the message. The issue is that the limit is 350 miles and i had around 600 miles to do. The RAM dealership in the USA didnt want to help me because they said it was not bought in the states. Ridiculous... They are made in USA... Anyways, so i needed to find a way to start it back. Did that and continu my ride to Canada back home
@@forumjeep Thank You so much for that trick! 👏👌 I was on the middle of road from Montreal to Halifax on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015 3.0 eco diesel. Same message: 350 km. engine will not start. How long I can do that way to start my car and for how long I could drive after??? Any problems or damage not working NOX sensor could do to this engine? Thank You.
@@Andreyhappy74 the mechanic guy told me its only a pollution issue. Its not going to damage your truck. Anyhow, i just deleted mine. Done with all that crap. I had a huge deal here in quebec. About 1400$ including computer , exhausts, bypass,.... tax included
Thanks ! Worked for me, not spending 2K to fix my def
did you find a fix without paying the dealer?
I got that mileage limit message last week, changed the DEF injector sensor it went away and that's the first time I've ever had an issue with the DEF system at 395k miles. The message came back this week code P20e8 reductant pressure too low, so I replaced the DEF pump. The light has gone away. I don't see an issue with the DEF system if we keep it properly serviced. When the DPF gets full you can take it off and go to a car wash or if you have a high powered pressure washer you can clean it yourself with just water. Let it dry and reclean again then let it sit it in the sun to completely dry out. There are 2 Nox sensors and upstream and downstream, when they go bad they can trigger the mileage limit and other codes, if you get a check engine light read the code if it's DEF related start with the injector then DEF pump. Any issues after that, read the codes and go from there can only be those 4 components (DEF injector, DEF pump, Nox sensors upstream or downstream). Also, idling the trucks with the DEF system is what causes issues. Idle time should never be higher than drive time.
Deleting it, no more worries. Or keeping it properly maintained.
Good point. I actually full deleted my truck. No more issues or concerned regarding DEF
Thanks for tips brother
Thank you!
Thank you sincerely. This got me home
Stuck in the middle of no where?
Very very useful keep it up
Thank you SO much. You just saved us!!!
Were you stuck in the middle of nowhere?
Thx for sharing… I’m having this issue 🤙🏼😁👍🏼
Love the instrument panel . wish mine said big horn when I start it
Thank you this work I help out family get home using this
How long did you drive it
you are the best
Thanks!
love you great work 😂
Does that work on a2016 without the key, has a push button instead
Great, now that RAM knows that everyone else knows this trick they can implement a change in the ECU to inhibit the fuel injectors and flash that the next time you're at the dealer. Good stuff...
You must be fun at parties
I had my def deleted so I don't use it. just watching for the fun of it thanks!
Yep, mine is deleted as well. Don't have to deal with this anymore
@@forumjeep how did you delete it? does it throw a check engine code?
@@GaryRolls2 well, i bought a delete kit. Computer, exhaust, bypass...
@@forumjeep what's the link for that? dealer wants $1200 for the fix
@@GaryRolls2 1200 is the cost for a full delete. Dont pay that i go to any diesel mechanic shop. Most of them will do it for you. No more trouble!
I loved you final thought. Bullshit lol
I did the same thing plus I ran a wire in the inside it ran for a long time now the d e f light coming back on
Running that wire and restarting it like that....didn't damage anything Further?...and How long was a long time?
I got the same message, but took out the def thank and clean it, clean the inyector and reset the system, but the message still there ... my question is what happened after this? Did you put back the relay or you have to do this every time that you want to drive?
Ive put back the relay and went To the stealership To have a reset of the code. This trick is only if you are stuck in the middle of no where and you need to drive To a mechanic
So you're saying you can keep driving even after the miles countdown?
Yes
@@forumjeep ok cause I'm in a similar situation right now. I'm in Savannah GA at the moment and need to get back to Tampa FL
@@PK08-86 yes. Just jump the relay like i did on the video and everything will be fine. Just dont stop the engine while refueling because you will need to do it again
Do you put the fuse back in?
Actually it's a relay, not a fuse. But yes, i put it back once the engine is started
@@forumjeep I seen sparks but no crank or anything
Do I need to do this every time I start the pick up?
Did you fix the truck or you still starting like that?
Ive deleted the truck. No more issues with DEF related codes
Hey Justin b...how far did you drive after you restarted it again?
I drove about 200 miles on the way home
Oh I fix my problem without taking it to the shop...if you want to know how let me know and I will tell you what I did.
floyd sabit how did u do that?
How did you fix it Floyd
Good day I took my Def to exhaust nozzle and steam cleaned it...then took my def tank and steam cleaned it then reset the code with my OBD2 code reader. Then drove it for 50 km on the highway and the engine light or warning never come back on. All this took a little time and faithfulness to do so no rush on it. Hope this helps.
My DF gauge is not working but I have fluid in it and it is telling me I've only got two hundred and seventy miles and the truck will not restart is there something that will reset itself we even though it's got fluid in it what's the big deal what do I need to do I tried putting water in it flushing it out I put hot water in it flushing it out I don't know what else to do I've not yet took the tank off to clean the tank
Well that trick won't reset anything in your system. The only thing that it does is that it bypass your starter relay. So even if you have 0 miles left and you are stuck, this trick would work. Keep in mind that depends on the year or your truck, it may not work
@@forumjeep I have a 2014 Dodge Ram this what I have is telling me today that I have 240 miles can I put good fluid in and the gauge is still not working do not understand what's going on
@@backwoodsguy2028 This is not the same issue. I'm heard this before with ecodiesel. Sometimes it's not even the gauge the problem. The problems comes from the tank sensors. If you want to be sure, maybe go see the dealer.
Thanks I don't have the money for that
@@forumjeep ask people for me and see what I need to do to fix it
I have the gas 5.7 how do you start it if you have no power to the dash at all?
