Hells yea we want a farm tour girly!! And a remodel update too please!?? 😊 You have had such a few months, I am so very sorry 😔 There are no right words, but I would love to just send you a heartfelt hug. Thank you for everything that you do. You are so sweet and such a wealth of information. I hope that you know how appreciated you are 💕
I sell peonies wholesale every spring in Michigan. Your tutorial regarding cutting secondary buds to divert energy back into the plant and the part about soil amendment was helpful to me. I also did not know about the tip to not harvest all the peonies on a bush, but to dead head some of them instead in order to also divert more energy into the plant. Lastly, I need to learn more about amending the soil with phosphorus as you mentioned too. Thank you!
Peonies are my favourite! A spectacular bloom for a short period of time, but now I know how to extend the joy all summer. Thank you. Bri, I hope you are giving yourself the grace and space to grieve. I’m holding you in my heart.
Outstanding video, I learned a lot. I, too thought that ants helped the Peonies to open LOL. I think Yellow Peonies are my favorite. Your field is lovely. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
I harvested several last weekend as they were all just exploding with our burst of Colorado heatwave. I had a party yesterday I wanted to have them for. They were already opening and so I put them into a paper bag and refrigerator. When I pulled them out on Friday my heart sank as they were all wilted and looked ready for the compost pile. Just for the heck of it I put in a vase of water and like magic they emerged beautifully!!!!!!! I think I was just lucky but so happy that they came back into their beauty
Would really like to see a few peonies taken out in August! Please do a video. I plan to grow peonies and if I can store them 4-8 weeks in the fridge, that would be great!
Hi! I am now obsessed with soil health too, thanks to you. Started reading Teaming with microbes. So thank you for sharing these ides and knowledge. I was wondering if you could tell me in which video you give the recipe for soil amendment with grass water and mykorhiza? Some time ago I watched it and now I cannot find it anymore.
Great video! Once again so much info. I have an 6 year old Itoh about 3-4 ft tall. It’s planted to close to a couple of hydrangeas( didn’t know any better at the time)when is the best time to transplant? P.S. because of your videos my husband and I are are cutting our plastic consumptions even when we grocery shop. Thanks again and always listening and learning.☀️🌱💕
It's always best to move perennials in the fall. In our zone 2/3 we move perennials in the beginning of Sept. This gives the plants a couple weeks to settle their roots before we get our first killing frost. When you move them, cut the foliage down to help reduce transplant shock.
Yesss. I've heard about storing them so this year I have a wedding and thought this is the best reason to try this method and (fingers crossed) I have peonies in mid july. Have been collecting them for couple of weeks from my garden, moms garden, to-be in-laws garden and putting them in fridges and cellars and hoping..hoping..hoping for the best. 🥰🤞🏻 After this video I'm not so scared anymore and this could work and last till july.
What an amazing informative video! All helpful knowledge for these beauties!! So agree about the black plastic, never found it to be overall helpful in the long run! Thank you so much, really enjoyed your sharing!!!
thank you so much for all the info. The peonies are so beautiful! Did I hear it correctly - you don't want leaves that have a disease to go into compost, right?
❤ So much great info, as always. And, my goodness that Canary Brilliants!!! I don't have any Peonies in my yard, but I think that needs to change. As soon as the budget allows, adding one to our landscape. Thanks for another great video.
Wow looking amazing over there 🌱🌱💚💚 i would definitely learn alot from you! I made a little shade garden micro climate for benificial insects! Bring on the lady bugs 🥰
Would you suggest a living mulch like the freeping phlox, or wood chips? My peony patch is 2 years old and i need something to supress weeds! Zone 5 in PA
Goodness, I wish this video was able to come out a month ago. I am in zone 5 illinois and my peonies have all finished blooming. We had a very early and very warm spring. But so much great info for next year. A question if you read this.....unfortunately I need to move some of my peonies around because I planted a few just willy nilly to get them into the ground a several years ago. They are quite large now and I am so afraid of chopping thru the roots when I move them in the fall. I'll be using a garden fork but any suggestions on moving them safely would be appreciated. Am relatively new to peonies.
I am a newbie at peonies and have one in year two. It's still pretty shrimpy and I haven't seen any buds yet. Just to make sure I understand, when I do see buds, I should snip them off during year two? Last year it was small with no buds. This year it's a little bigger with no buds yet. At what year should can I harvest or let it bloom? I am growing for my personal use for cut flowers. Thank you for this VERY informative video. I have a feeling this might become an addiction like my dahlias!
My Peony let out one big bloom, I see 4 more buds and they are small and won't open. I am going to move the soil around the bottom, I don't know it looks pretty full to me with green. Last year I got 4 blooms, this is our 3rd year with this plant and I thought it would go crazy.
We are working on it, the side field is now lush with interplanted ground phlox, blue grama in walkways, goldenrod, columbine, etc. Now just need to do the same to the back area! I selected the creeping phlox because it's shallow rooted and won't interfere with the peony growth while providing ground cover.
You wouldn't happen to have any resources that you could share for caring for tree peonies, by chance? I've never trimmed mine, because I'm not sure how to properly care for them.

Definitely would LOVE a farm tour please!
Appreciated the information and enjoyed the video.
I appreciate the Itoh peony information. I bought 5 Bartzella roots this year.
You’re in for a treat, they smell amazing!!
@@Blossomandbranch Canary Brillants is zoned 4-8 whereas Bartzella is 4-9. 🤔

So beautiful. Thank you for showing us your garden blooms.
When you store in water, how frequently do you change water? Thanks
Another lovely helpful video. Thank you❤

ピーチ色のピオニー初めて見ました❤すごく美しいですね😍
Very cool; I didn't know peonies could be stored dry.
Canary Brilliant is also my favourite Itoh ❤️❤️❤️
Do you have to change the water everyday for the storage technique when yuh don’t dry store? Thank you so much for all your rich info
Would you suggest a living mulch like the freeping phlox, or wood chips? My peony patch is 2 years old and i need something to supress weeds! Zone 5 in PA
The phlox is slow so if you had to choose between the two I’d do mulch; however ours is starting to spread now (year two)- ask me again next year 😅
Can I ask what the purple flowers next to the peony are? Thank you, your videos are the best!

Do you dead head after the blooms are done? I'm sorry if i missed when you told us. Thank you f I r helping me.
Yes, I do to keep them from putting energy into seed production!
How often would you swap out the water in the bucket, when storing medium term in the chiller? Also how do you prevent the stem from rotting?
If temps are low enough they won’t rot, and don’t do too much water! If your temps hover much above 38 you risk rot. I change water every few days!
thanks

How long does it typically take for the fridge stored buds to open up?
About 3 days in my experience but it depends what stage it was harvested at!
My Peony let out one big bloom, I see 4 more buds and they are small and won't open. I am going to move the soil around the bottom, I don't know it looks pretty full to me with green. Last year I got 4 blooms, this is our 3rd year with this plant and I thought it would go crazy.
I stake my peony with the H shape metal wire that you would use for yard sale signs or signs in general. How is the gardens doing?
How do you make sure you don't have any bugs in your cuttings?
Do you have a preferred source for good quality peonies roots ? At least 5 eye quality . Thanks! 🥰🌸
If you were to re do your peony field so it isn't a monoculture how would you do it?
We are working on it, the side field is now lush with interplanted ground phlox, blue grama in walkways, goldenrod, columbine, etc. Now just need to do the same to the back area! I selected the creeping phlox because it's shallow rooted and won't interfere with the peony growth while providing ground cover.
I have canary brilliance and it has not bloomed in years ,any tips?
Apply some Espoma Garden Tone to the area.
Any tips for peonies that don't bloom at all? Been in the ground for 2 seasons and no blooms 😢
Mine are first year bloomers they’re so heavy flowers laying on ground!!!
I rethink buying landscape fabric every time you show your soil!
❤
I have the Canary Brilliance Itoh peony as well. It is not my favourite, Bartzella is my favourite hands down.
What was the name of your favorite peony again?
Canary Brilliants
❤❤❤👍
💚👍
You didn’t say anything about fertilizer when to fertilize?
We do mention it, i say we fertilize after bloom with aged manure but soils testing is always a good idea to test for excess phosphorus :)
You wouldn't happen to have any resources that you could share for caring for tree peonies, by chance? I've never trimmed mine, because I'm not sure how to properly care for them.
