Always a shame to see when someone throws in the towel on a project. Looks like a solid car and would be fun to cruise with the top down and your girl riding shotgun
Whoa Nelley, 1979 and out of time. In 1979, Triumph was under the British Leyland umbrella which was controlled (at least partly) by the British government. That address in Leonia, NJ was the headquarters for Triumph in the USA and today houses a fire protection company, a stone company and a water technology company. It's in Bergen County, NJ. I had a friend in high school that was big time into these cars. So was his dad and older brother. I believe he still has them, although I haven't run into him in several years. British-Leyland was everything wrong with the UK car industry in the 1970s/1980s. It was said that they were on strike more than they worked and everything was a mess. By 1980, they were really on the bottom of the barrel, so they weren't far behind in 1979. This is a car that you'd want to like, but it just didn't have the quality and then BL pulled the rug out in the 1980s and made it hard to find parts. You can still find them today, as there are plenty of companies that have picked up where BL left off, but some parts are hard to find. We got the VIN, we win: T for Canley, United Kingdom assembly, C for TR-7/TR-8 range, T for TR-7 convertible for the USA market, the rest is the production sequence, then U for North American specification car, and F for five speed manual gearbox. The Canley plant closed in August 1980 and parts of it remained through the 1990s until it was razed. Exterior color is code NCF Tudor White. Back then these were called "Commission Numbers" on some models, but for all purposes, it's the VIN. Unipart was the OEM/aftermarket parts end of British-Leyland, kind of like their Delco or Motorcraft to GM and Ford respectively. Those parts might be worth something, depending on what you pay for them. They are surely in the vintage packages, that's for sure. Whoa Nelley, fish and chips, and this one is a rip. Made in the UK and soon to go away. TR-7 is going to Heaven. VIN code "TCT" and it's over for thee. That's it, time to quit. Painted Tudor White and soon to be out of sight. Going to be flat and that's that. It's going to get squished and only for nostalgia's sake and nothing more are some of the Triumph faithful going to be very, very, very pissed.
Just in casr you may have wondered, the convertible top was made by a company called Amco. I took the convertible top and bootaa it qaa in great shape, just dusty. Tops for these cars aren't cheap
@@ClassicRideSociety Yes, now part of E-Z On Auto Tops in Iva, SC. Another big one was Electron Auto Top in Richmond Hill, NY (Queens NY), but I believe E-Z On bought them too a few years back. Amco was an OEM supplier to Chrysler for a time.
@@garymckee63 The 3.5L V8 was installed in some of these cars, called a TR-8. A bunch came to the US market through the 1981 model year. They aren't very prevelant.
@googleusergp the Buick in question was a one owner, and l tried to purchase it but the owner said l wouldn't take care of it and he sold to the son of one the estimators at the place l was employed at. The son went out and got drunk in it and hit mailboxes 📬 and totally ruined the vehicle because he said all he wanted was the engine. He is an idiot.
Fortunately, by high school, I already had my Trans Am. By then my mother stopped driving it and gave it to me. That was always the plan from when it was new in 1980.
Now why in the world is a triumph sport in the junk yard holty crap theses things are gitting Rare to find especially a Tr7 wow thats a real shame there that car should be saved by someone before it gits crushed...
Why do you move stuff around and then don't put it back in case someone was looking for said part now they have no idea that its in the car behind them. You should at least put it back where you got it from you would hope someone would do the same for you 😮

I know an idiot who destroyed a 63 Buick with the 215 aluminum engine to install in one of those.
The project never got off the ground.
