So for those who don't know Black Water Hattie is actually a legend from the bayous of Florida, but most legends of her live on in Louisiana because need I explain.
In the late 80's my dad would tell me a bedtime story of black water Hattie and would scare the living crap out of me the way he would tell it. I was an adult before I ever knew it was a song. I only knew it as a scary story he would tell me when I was a kid Haha. This really brought back some good memories for me.
Holy shit, the same! I thought I was the only one haha Stumbled upon the original Jim Stafford version on Waylon Jennings radio and it blew my mind that it was a song and not a creepy poem my dad knew
Sure miss Jim Stafford! He was always a favorite and love hearing this done so well in his style. Nice job. I still have my old cassette tape of that album! Love his Swamp Witch Hattie recording.
my great aunt Hattie had a glass eye when we were kids she would pop out her eye put it in the table she said I will keep an eye on you kids while I make dinner she taught us how to pluck chickens and we ate um and they were good
Such a ridiculous cover!!! SM is ridiculously good!!!!!!❤️🙏🏽🤙🏽🤟🏽😘
Excellent-been listening to this song for 50 years
Memory unlocked my dad played this on his guitar

Swamp witch , a great song, by hometown boy, Jim Stafford . Shawn Mullins does a decent job on it.
Ain't much pride when your trapped inside a slowly sinking ship... great line
"The talk got shackled by the howls and the cackles from the bowels of the black bayou". One of my favorite lines of all time.
Didn't know that Florida had bayous. Learn something new everyday.
Such great tone and clean guitar playing. Perfect recitation style. Jim Stafford would certainly approve.

Dang, I should have done that, LOL. Hope you're carrying on the same family tradition.
I think Jim Stafford would be very happy with this version

Man I love how kept the dark tone alive in this. Very cool.
Awesome job dude, absolutely love this song and it sounds so good with just those dark acoustic chords
Great, love this song and great version.
O my God Beaurifull

Jim Stafford would have written a song for you about Great Aunt Hattie!
great cover!
Nice cover.
Also known as black water Hattie.
So keep off the track of Hatties shack in the back of the black bayou.
John Rich and Aaron Lewis that would be a concern I would go to.
Sounds like if Petty sang it.
No bad for a cover. Prefer Stafford's, his original makes the skin crawl.
Jim Stafford had some good jams. This is my favorite of his though
slow it down......
Good voice but, some times more notes can ruin the mood of the song.
This man does a good job... But I'd much rather see Papa Joe Gaudet... performance this number!!!!!
Why wouldn't you rather see the guy who wrote and performed it? Jim Stafford.
