As a newbie, I’m just jumping right into this. I’m definitely struggling with the transitions between chords as I’m struggling to find my finger placement. I also have small hands and double-jointed fingers so it feels doubly hard! However, I had this feeling of “I can’t believe I’m playing the guitar!” even though I suck at the moment. 🤩

In the original track you can hear he doesn't just restart with the open E twice but instead when the riff restarts he plays second fret A and then one open E (as opposed to two open E's). It gives the song some more movement in case anyone else noticed it sounded slightly off and felt off playing it that way

That's exactly the reason why I was done with that video after not even 1 minute. Telling people that it is fun, pretty easy and iconic and can't even break down the easiest shit correctly is not what i want to learn, no matter if it's paid or for free. I bought my guitar, started learning this one and Something in the Way, learned Something really quickly, and now i'm 90% into this one. All in two weeks. Nirvana is the best for begginers, hands down.
Because he's actually playing it incorrectly. For one, the riff ends on 2nd fret A string, but he's ending in on an open E string...and the chords are wrong as well. There's no muting of the G string in the first chord. Just play an F#sus4. And the second chord is a straight up A major chord, not an Asus2 as he is playing.
This was my grandpa’s favorite song. I only have one memory of him, and it was when I was like 3. My dad started playing this and I wondered where he learned it and he told my my mom’s dad taught it to him. I still have his guitar from the 70s lol

For anyone struggling to mute that open G with the F# power chord, you can also just use your pinky to mute to it if you angle your fingers to about 45 degrees (wish I could show yall what I mean with a picture). It makes transitioning easier, and has the same effect.
I played the guitar for 3 years and I thought I was really bad at it but now after 2 years no playing, I want to start again and I regret it so much that I stopped....
I did that with the drums (although I only stopped for a few months) and I was really kicking myself for doing that. Lesson learned. I guess imma stick with music, cuz it’s literally he only thing I’m good at

I’m glad I found this. I was learning off Music Is Win’s video where he was teaching his wife and he didn’t say they dropped from E to D. Couldn’t figure out why it was sounding off, as I was tuned normally to EADGBE.

Something isn't right with this. The main lick is off by one note. You should be hitting the B on the transition instead of E 3 times. Starting at 2:46 (B E not E E) Also something doesn't sound right with your F chord...by like maybe one note. I think bar 2nd fret and then 4th fret on A D G (mute B)
Also the repeat is not same it goes from A2 to just once open E string and then it repeats instead of 2 times am I correct or did I miss something else aswell ?
Dean Brady put a capo on your second fret. Then tune your guitar to standard tuning... Then take off the capo and you have tuned your guitar a full step down! 👍👍 Hope this helps!

nice but the way I learned to play the song is instead of tuning your guitar differently you play on the A and D string and on the 5,6, and 7th frets. so like this: (Dsting: (0) ) 5,5,6,7 ,(5),7,(5),7,7,6,5,(7),5,(7),5,5,6,7 and so on... but still thanks a lot Marty!

TheAwkward One listen to the actual song he’s missing a note. At the beginning you play D twice but you’re supposed to have a connecting note at the end of the intro riff when it restarts every time. Listen closely to both and you’ll hear it

@@TheNamesFarquaad He’s taking a power chord position at f# and then muting the g string with his middle finger
@@TheNamesFarquaad but if you want you can press down on the g string (3rd fret) if you can’t mute it yet
@@TheNamesFarquaad while leaving the b & e strings to ring on open position so basically (2nd-4th-4th-x(or 3rd)-open-open)

nice but the way I learned to play the song is instead of tuning your guitar differently you play on the A and D string and on the 5,6, and 7th frets. so like this: (Dsting: (0) )
5,5,6,7 ,(5),7,(5),7,7,6,5,(7),5,(7),5,5,6,7 and so on... but still thanks a lot Marty!

Great lesson! I like how you take your time on the fretboard. Verbally identifying what string and fret while you play it and breaking the song into small parts is really helpful too.

I'm a 55 year old "very late beginner" (acoustic + E-guitar) and I do like to play stuff like AC / DC , ZZ Top, Status Quo, etc
and of course Nirvana.
My only real problem mostly is how to achieve the right sound with my gear (Gibson Les Paul Standard + Marshall MFX 15 C), could U please tell us more about what gear U use (amps, pedals), about the settings of your gear (what channel e.g. etc.) and wether U use bridge- or neck-pickup for instance.

TheAwkward One listen to the actual song he’s missing a note. At the beginning you play D twice but you’re supposed to have a connecting note at the end of the intro riff when it restarts every time. Listen closely to both and you’ll hear it
