The reason "random" coat colors can show up is because certain breeds have some attached "recessive" coat colors that can appear in their offspring, which is very realistic to actual puppy litters :)
Yup!! That’s how our lab is a Dudley when all his other siblings are chocolate!
Same thing with humans too! They don't do it with human sims though do they
@@tanyabhaskar2888 The same does apply to humans, but we don't have as much that's based on it. It's easier to notice on dogs because they're literally covered in fur. The Sims does use recessive genes for the humans but again it's not as noticeable.

Would be cool to have some like mine where they’re green in the middle and blue still on the outer edges. (Until I got to junior high I had blue eyes, then went green/blue there after)

I remember when I used the paint tool for the first time to give one of my cats a little bow tie. I ended up giving him to my sim's daughter, but the other cat had the trait that makes pets wonder around the neighborhood and, shockingly, even come back pregnant. I didn't even have to guess who the father was - all the kittens had little bow ties on them 😂

@@nanyummyify I wondered why mine had kittens a few generations ago. She had a kitten Daisy I created in CAS from her then had a kitten I called Oopsie. It wasn’t until she passed that I noticed on the screen of my family they were listed as Oopsie n Daisy. Lol completely unplanned that bit.
I used the paint function once to make my tortoise shell colored cat in game. I spent all night painting all her little spots and had reference pictures to make sure it was accurate.
I did use the custom tools to create my own irl dog at one point. It was weird though because size-wise she's halfway between large and small, so I didn't know what size to make her. But I did really enjoy being able to customize her fur so well.
I made my dog once but I couldn't make her fluffy enough without changing her breed
@@jenrrr I'm pretty sure you can change the breed name to whatever you want, so just make the dog look right and then change the breed name manually

I’ve been watching her since 2019 I think.
This is why I use MC Command Center to set it so kids inherit the maximum number of physical traits from their parents possible, and I disable random mutation lol Well mostly. I think I left like a one percent chance a randomly mutated thing could enter just because it is interesting watching a mutation spread lmao

@@kyidyl There are a couple of sections to do that.
First, go to MC CAS.
Under there go to "Offspring".
Then go to "Use Parent Physical Attributes" and Enable it.
Then go to "Parent Values Variance Percent" and set that to whatever you like. I set mine at 1 because I think its fun to have a tiny chance at a random mutation but you can set it to 0.
Then go to "Use Parent Skin Details" and Enable that.
Then go to the MC PREGNANCY module.
Under there should be another "Offspring" section.
Then go to "Inherit Trait Type" and set it to "Inherit Maximum Number".
Then go to "Maximum Inherit Traits" and set that to 20 cause thats the most.

I did use the paint tool to immortalize my passed away cat ☺ her fur was like a snow shoe cat but slightly different, now I can see her everyday
Oddly enough, those early iterations are familiar to how dog genetics actually work to my knowledge. I love how mildly actually it is to dog genetics.
I think genetics for pets is pretty accurate cause my aunts dog had a litter of puppies and the mama dog was all brown and puppy 1 was brown, puppy 2 was white with brown spots, puppy 3 was brown with dark brown spots and puppy 4 was dark brown
Have you ever seen pictures of corgis breed with just about any other breed? They literally just look like corgis disguised as whatever they were bred with. It's cute and hilarious.

I, to be honest, have had a ton of fun using the paint tool on cats in CAS. I'm currently on Generation 17 with my cat family.

I used the tool to make my dogs and cats. My dog has really different fur, so it was fun making her. The only problem is that after they added neighbors stories, the game auto moved my sim and the pets to a house and when I saw it, I had a child and the dogs had 3 puppies 🤣
I honestly wish that they’d implement more thought-out genetics in TS4. It would be super cool to see consistent patterns in large families, as well as which recessive and dominant traits exist within a family.

Hey lilsimsie, me and my sister play this “challenge” that we kind of made up. We set a timer and give each other one minute to make any changes to a blank sim we want and then we switch. And do it over and over until there’s nothing else to add. And you’re not allowed to change what the other person did and by the end you have a cool looking sim that you made together. I haven’t seen anyone else do it but its really fun. Just a suggestion. :)
The "not so berry challenge" is soooo fun, I love it!

I love making custom pets, I’ve made all (current and previous) our family pets at least once. I usually use low opacity and keep layering until I like the look. I treat it like I’m painting.
I honestly love videos like this where you’re just messing with the games mechanics, I find it so interesting how the animals are so different each time even though it’s the same parents

I had a calico cat and currently have a tortie, i go into great detail to try and make them as realistic as often when creating them in the sims

@@celesteH258 took me a few minutes to figure it out too. click the little yellow cat icon in the top right corner, and click the settings icon ( the one above the house icon). There's a spot there that says Enter Code

I once had a save with 2 dogs and I bred them together and each puppy had the head of one parent and the body of the other one. They looked adorable as puppies but then they looked really weird as adults so I put them up for adoption
I breed dogs in the Sims a lot (every household always has several dogs, I'm obsessed) and I think because pet customization options are SO elaborate in the sims 4, the randomizer just gets confused and is only able to pick some things at once. Like, it will never mix parents in equal part, and only take a limited number of elements. No idea about the random colors though.

I use the create tools on my pets all the time. It's so much fun to change the coloring, and add spots to the animal or stripes, or even make it a holiday pet, with green fur with colored spots for ornaments. LOL
yeah i love to use the custom pet tools. i use them to make my own pets and pets from other media.
Honestly every pet looks similar in the sims so usually when I make one for my sims I use the paint tool and I always choose "unnatural" colors (red,blue,and purple are my favorites) so that the pet is unique to that sim/household.
I completely forgot about the pets cas, I'd love to see more videos about it!

Also, I do use the paint tool when making my pets but ONLY if I'm actually trying to create a pet based on a real pet. Like I made my actual dogs and used it on them.

I don't usually make a pet in CAS but recently I felt like messing with the dog genetics and I ended up with a giant fox. I mixed a fox with a dingo. it was so cute!

For not so berry gen 1 I made a dalmatian with mint colored spots lol. But typically I don't venture into the pet paint tools
I bought the pets because I want to reenact some scene with a couple. But I find it difficult and near impossible, since I cannot focus on the couple while also keeping an eye out on the pet.
I play the Sims 4 for the details. The action and the reaction.
I used to breed a metallic dog in Sims 2. It was awesome!!! I had 20 generations of these metallic blue dogs. Ahhh. Sims 2.....

Hey Kayla here’s a challenge. Build a house in he sims 4 but every object you use has to be the same price.
I wish you could paint on human sims as well. So you could make freckles or birth marks or random designs for alien sims.

I’m 7 gens into a sims save file, full game, 120 sims, multiple family trees, all 7gens long - the genetics sim generator becomes really predictable….I see the same things happening here

after 7 generations of pupper, I never got rid of the pink poodle. it was always there.
The only time I've really used the custom paint tool on pets was to make my own cat in-game.

The Cat Forst game sounds like a cell phone version of a Tamagotchi.
It'd be interesting if you add a different color (pink, blue, purple, green, etc.) every generation and see which one gets passed down the most lol
You should do one with purebreds (like all golden retrievers) and see what happens since sometimes the puppy looks nothing like the parents anyway.

I did. I have 4 maine coons and I needed my sim-self to have her squad in game. Murray has a spot that looks like a heart on his shoulder!
I love this video but it did make me sad that there still isn't a color wheel for human sims or much customization in general. There's literally more for the pets than the humans... I mean, they should at least have the same amount of customization.

I like my Sims having dogs a lot, and rarely adopt because i try to pick a breed that fits their lifestyle and personality. Only downside is the apartments. Kind of annoyed me I always needed to walk the dog, which makes sense but come on, dogs need to go potty a lot. 😂
I’ve only ever used the costume tools to make a sim version of my best friend’s dog because she missed him (she moved away and had to leave her dog with a friend). It came out looking just like her a dog and she cried 😭

Honestly the pet genetics in TS4 really throw me off, bc I'm used to the TS3 genetics where the offspring would truly take markings and colors from both parents and be a mix of them instead of the set coat colors in this one. Like you could make completely unique pets through breeding, while here you'll always get one of the set coats with different colors

I use the paint tools a lot when recreating coats on dogs or putting lil decoration markings on my animals. I used the moon stamp on one of my cats recently bc i wanted him to look magical for my witch sim🤣
I did one where it was so many puppies haha I kept breeding them

I actually don't mess around with cas with pets only with sims. I do what you do. Apodt them on they phone and call it a day.
