Police confiscated my Motorcycle!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- That one time I am riding another Motorcycle it gets impounded immediately by the Police in Pokhara Nepal! What the exact reason was? nobody knows for sure and at least we got our money back. Apparently it’s illegal to rent vehicles in Nepal but yet you can do it. Anyway, It’s not gonna ruin the day. Eve also had a little incident falling over while parked (because of the lack of a parking brake🙄) but with the help of my friend Ben we got her all fixed up again and left with only a few battle scars. But what now? Time for some fun on the Go Kart Track! Happy days 🙌🏼

I did warn you way earlier before even you reached VNS.
Traffic is so much corrupt here in nepal they find excuses to fine
Okay

I don't think so bro in Pokhara its illegal to rent bike..
Where are you from bro saying Traffic police are corrupt..
@zexieofficial Bro you arenot from pokhara so you better not talk about this matter. This type of bike with modifications is strictly illegal in pokhara
5:00 you are absolutely right here .. If someone calls himself a police officer and stops someone and just cannot show his ID ...Than that guy has no authority to stop you ..
True that
the police did ask if he wanted to see his police id photo as he was offduty but he wanted real id instead of photo 4:55 . And he also clearly stated he was offduty so he had no id and thats why he was calling other officer with id to take action instead of taking action himself. And in 5:23 the officer did unlocked the mobile to show id but bro literally started putting helmet and walked toward his rented bike
From my view it is the fault of the renters and language barrier

Wow. Sounds like they were familiar with that bike and its owner renting it out. You’re certainly not the first person to have rented it, and they probably became aware of it as a result. You just happen to be the unlucky rider at the time they decided to take action. I’m glad it all worked out though. And it is a shame about Eve, as I was thoroughly impressed she had not had any problems up until now. But you know how it goes, it’s not a matter of “if”, it’s a matter of “when”.
It’s good to see the group together and having a lot of fun. Especially Loki!😊
Thanks for the great video!

Yea, small town. Restaurants and guesthouses tend to be best in small town rural areas, but police regardless of country can be a headache.

I still remember back in 2018 when I entered Nepal, the border policeman asked for a bribe straightaway on my face.. the asking amount was 15k (INR) when questioned why he wants the bribe, he had an excuse and said its my sister wedding so i need the money..😂..i mean seriously why would i give money for your sister wedding do i know you 😅

It is good to see that Nepal has no serious problems needing the police so several police orricers can have time stop a motorcycle.
Lmfaoo
not funny, the police officer was doing his duty. Its illegal anyway to have such modifications on bike. Singapore with its absurd laws are fine but not nepal right? typical ignorant typa shit of comment

The bike was modified to increase its sound, and such modifications are illegal in Nepal. The police officer, probably a high-ranking officer off duty, noticed the loudness of the bike and called his colleagues to check it out. They were not looking for a bribe, and they do not receive any commission from fines, contrary to what others are saying.

Marc, you should carry or wrap a narrowish self adhering Velcro around your bar somewhere. When you need to immobilize a front wheel just squeeze the brake and wrap the Velcro around the lever and the bar. It will also prove to be invaluable when picking up a bike that you've dumped and the front wheel keeps sliding/rolling away.
Several years ago, we rode the enduro express on a trip. Long-distance trip to Australia.
A lot of folks in Nepal think our traffic police have a little too much love for bribes. But here's the scoop: these officers actually get a bonus from the government or traffic department for every rider they catch with illegal modifications, missing documents, crazy driving, and other shenanigans. So, if you're squeaky clean, they can't touch you. But if you've got any slip-ups, they'll be on you like a hawk because, hey, who doesn't love a bonus?
And a heads-up for our foreign friends: in Nepal, there's zero tolerance for drinking and driving. You might think you can handle a pint and still drive, but here, even a whiff of alcohol-just 1 ml-and you're toast. So, keep the booze out of your ride and stay on the safe side!
I never drink and drive
That's a sneaky way to say the Nepalese will expect bribe suck it up. I won't be surprised if dude comes up with an explanation like you didn't cut your nails, so we are snatching your bike. Shows how much friendly Nepalese are to outsiders. Zero hospitality.

The reason of wildfire is pine trees bring in indian subcontinent by britishers during colonial era. As the temperature reaches above 45 degree, the bark of these invasive trees starts secreting an oil which is flamable, and during the pre-monsoon season these trees caught fires by winds. As every thing is dried up grass is dried winds rubs the grass and dried leaves and leads to fire in these pine trees, which leads to forest fire.
Spontaneous cobusting trees...What nonsense! Wet (live) wood will not catch fire from abrasion, nor do pinus Sp ooze sap as a result of high temperatures- sap (pine resin) is a stress response to a mechanical wound, or more occasionally response to a natural pathogen. These are scrub fires started deliberately EVERY YEAR to clear land for grazing & crops. I've seen this with my own eyes, maybe take a look up from your computer screen at the real world before making such statements. There are also pine species native to Nepal, as well as exotic species, both are planted/harvested for their timber. Since this is managed land near houses, the pines are likely for harvesting at a later date, rather than the 'bad-evil-colonial' variety you'd SO like them to be

Why are they renting out bikes if it’s illegal? How are the tourists supposed to know about this?

Love it when you drop videos. A fun 41 minutes that seemed like 10 minutes. You can get a small piece of wood to secure your rear tire to prevent rolling when parking on an incline. @@MarcTravels But rented
I was thinking the same haha. And rental WILL get confiscated if caught.
@@MarcTravels Still, I get that you could interpret "my bike" in myriad of ways. But on a legal level you can call yourself lucky that it wasn't your property in the legal sense, that you did only temporarily have custody over it. You may have been riding it, but since you're not a licensed mechanic and the people of the rental place are the ones who modified it without telling you, you couldn't possibly be expected to know of the illegal tinkering they did.. it's not the same thing as if you were the one in the papers. Contrary to what 50% of Americans seem to believe, details matter. One tiny detail can turn over an entire story.. 🤷🏼♂️
I'm still kinda shook that they, basically living off of tourism, would treat tourists with rolling cameras, mind you, in such an inappropriate and unprofessional way. I find it highly questionable that the guy in civilian clothes would have his ticket thingy and a professional-grade radio with him, but not his ID - literally waiting in front of another bike rental/repair shop.
To be frank, I probably would not have stopped at all for some plain-clothed rando trying to flag me down from the side of the road. In South Africa that could mean losing your life by stopping in the middle of a trap set up by car jackers. At the very latest, would've driven off the moment he said he doesn't have an ID; I'm stupid but not moronic enough to wait around for his fellow thugs to arrive and/or surround me.. not in a country I don't know the language, laws or intricacies of their judicial system and I'm sure as hell not sticking around to find out if the police is corrupt, in kahoots with some criminals or not - especially not since nobody knows what happened to me, where I am, I'm not speaking the language and my country probably will be unable to get me out of there through either diplomatic or "inofficial" channels..
They have the plate, if they really were police, they know where to find me.. but on the side of the road, without any safety measures in place? Nah thanks, I'll pass; pun intended. 😅
Many people are making wild assumptions here, saying the renters called the cops on people, and the vendor is saying not to show ID. But that's not true.
This is simply the case of police using their knowledge of hot areas for such issues to extort fines. Bike modification is illegal in Nepal. ANd they know many of these renters modify their bikes. So, the cop, instead of stopping this modifying practice, simply waits around near the renter's area and stops any such bikes and fine them instead. The department gets more money, and police officers have quotas, which, if they exceed, get them bonuses. These kinds of things are common even in highly developed countries like the USA.
27:45 hold on to ur dear life 😂😂
Hahaha
This was my first time enjoying your vlog it was great 👌🤗 is their any chance you would be coming back to bangalore? I would love to meet you 😊
One day I’ll be back 🤩
Welcome to Nepal brother ❤
Cheers 🤙🏼
Here are the bullet points to understand the scenario amidst all the language barrier.
1.The bike's modified. That's illegal- no ifs no buts.
2. Rentals are illegal. ( Don't want to get into the legal jargon behind it.. Technically you could pass by saying it is "from a friend" and not rented and even better if the "friend" and bike owner is riding along side you.... Also, Local jurisdiction has even made ride sharing illegal in Pokhara, recently. )
3. Off duty "Senior" Cop spotted you guys, I reckon.
4. Since he was off duty, he called the "on duty" ones.
5. The owner showed up, and knows he is on the wrong.
6. From what people are discussing, the officers don't get percentage commissions from the fines they issue.
The fines are collected in the central "Police pool", from where it is used to cover costs of operations. However, they for sure are "encouraged" to issue "traffic violations" in even petty matters.
Thanks mate 🤙🏼 still a bummer ;)
What's the logic behind making ride sharing and renting illegal? Doesn't make sense at all
@@nilaksh007
What else than incompetent bureaucracy working at the behest of vehicle/transport associations and their syndicate.
Pokhara lies in Gandaki province which has its own provincial laws.
Although the Vehicle and Transport Regulation Regulations-2080 B.S. include provisions to legalize transport services through 'ride sharing' apps in Gandaki Province, the procedure for regulation has not been established.
So much for federalism and bottom up approach, when democracy in paper becomes democracy for the cronies.
Years ago in Varanasi, they made taxis illegal for some reason and anyone they caught, they set the car on fire. Everyone had to pretend the taxi guy was their best friend. 😂

Hope you can find someone who can do a good paintjob to fix the scratches. That's the disadvantage of having a heavy electric motorcycle. (mine weighs 260kg)
I had bent handle and was thinking how to fix it. The mechanics don't know; Only solution was driving 1500 kms to Delhi where there r specialists for this kind of stuff. first time I saw somebody fixing it already, and it's so simple!
Finally your video is here 😍
This was my first video that I watch yours but I really like your video🔥🔥❤️❤️
Memories are made of this.
Happy travels.
True 🤩
Something similar happened with Itchy Boots during her Africa trip when cops asked her for money... The country took it up seriously and are investigating
No fines were asked, even the police said bike is the problem not the rider. Similar happened ??? Did you watch the video or writing comments without properly watching video ???
Hope you don't mind sir thanks for visiting Nepal enjoy your day
Glad to see you having fun ❤
Sorry for the trouble. It's illegal only in Pokhara not whole Nepal, so you can get the bike rented from Kathmandu or any other city and start your tour.
The fine days begin😂😂
Hi Marc. Love your videos. What camera do you have on your mirror and how do you mount it?
Insta 360 go 2
Waiting to see u in Northeast India Have a great time in Nepal😊😊
Never seen a Go Kart track this bumpy 😅
You can probably get new bars pretty cheap. I got bars for my CB500F for about $60 cdn. They may have been weakened from the impact and bending.
Yeah I might get new bars 🤙🏼
So enjoy the currently monsoon weather here come over to Butwal ❤ for extra fun
Also habe ich nur abonniert, weil ich den Inhalt mag... vor allem, wie du immer in Schwierigkeiten gerätst😂.
Go-Kart with a lawn mower engine. Nice😅
@marctravels : If you don't have a parking brake or can't leave it in gear you can use a rubber 'charity' bracelet to hold your front brake on. On my bike I have hand guards so I loop the end of the band around the brake, pass the band around the handlebar grip and then loop the other end back over the brake lever again. If you don't have hand guards you might just be able to loop around the brake lever and the handle bar end with some twists in between to vary the tension.
Thanks for the tips 🤙🏼
@@MarcTravels I tried to post a link to a photo on google photos as a reply to my message but the message doesn't appear to be in this thread 😞I dropped the link into your instagram post for this video 🙂
Be careful 😉 and stay safe !!
I used to drive modified bike for years and Yea, got caught few times. Its okay to be relaxed and deal with the situation. Police in Nepal are generally calm and I believe pushing for his ID was a bad move, Usually you can get out of situation without any trouble or small fine but pushing luck can get you into trouble.
It looks like Pokhara has become really touristy now. When I was there over 20 years ago there was a lot less.
Yeah many tourists now
Hello my friend, im also a victim of these people. They ll never let us live in peace and joy, but we will. Namaste and thank you for showing this interesting interaction with the blues.
we ride from India to Nepal and we had only one police stop us and we told em we are fom India and we are good to go...we dont have a single prob maybe guess we are lucky...but ive noticed there were like lots of police on the side of the road
A new experience in Nepal is to enjoy it ❤❤❤
Reason for forest fire:
You visited Nepal during Dry and Windy season. It is a yearly common occurrence during this time. It's right before monsoon so you can expect such accidents. It's a huge issue but government don't give a shit.
Bro the big problem in pokhara is that traffic people dont like any fun with modification in silencer and color
Just enjoy your rides brother. They just wanted to fine without any reason lol
This is exactly what I suggest all tourists , GET YOURSELF A GOOD GUIDE BEFORE YOU SET OUT!!! IF YOU HAD A NATIVE WITH YOU YOU'D ENJOY YOUR EVERY SECOND, it's like exploring a forest without proper knowledge you'd easily get in trouble , Glad you took everything positively ❤
Enjoy the travel love from🇮🇳
