    1x cranks like the senicx crankset have a chainline of ~49.7mm. This works for 142mm thru axle or 135mm qr but rim brake road bikes have 130mm qr. The chainline for those is usually 43.5mm. I have used a 104mm bcd spider on then used spacers on the chainring bolts to get the chainring further inwards. This might mess up the shifting due to the increased cross chaining.

      the Senicx PR2or PR3 cranks have a 43,5mm chain line for road bikes. The crank used for the bike in the video is the GR2 (for gravel bikes) with a chain line of 49,7mm.

      @@lcooperdesign I haven't weighed it but it should be 7kg, or even less in Ultegra. The wheels are hyper in 50 (rim brake), old version with inner tube. They are indeed rigid wheels, aero, and which support very well the lateral winds. Disadvantages are noise from the hub (I put DT Swiss light grease on), braking isn't great when compared to my other Farsport wheels (DT 240). On the Hypers wheels, the braking surface is smooth while on the Farsports the surface is grooved. I use bLACKPRINCE.

    I had a similar issue with the 1x senicx crank, but my issue, that was completely solved with a chainring.
    Also I've gotten so tired of that "reputable! Groupset“ mentality; it's a young brand of course there will be issues. Like the gravel groupset had the adjustable tension system (chain drop issue) , it wasn't strong enough so they sent me a new updated model that has a much stronger spring, now no chain drop, their customer support is far and away better than I've had with the big 3

    • @jorgeeduardozamoraacosta8627
      @jorgeeduardozamoraacosta8627 2 роки тому +10

    Maybe it’s BB spacers fault? In my bike I had to swap spacers from recommended two on left side and one on right to the other way around so I could have “usable” chain line, but I use 1x8 so chain line is still silly as hell.

  • @marshallw

    Trace Velo did a video on those carbon brakes. He found the same thing as you; braking performance isn't great, and he goes on to hypothesize why. They're also apparently a clone of the Ciamillo Lekki8 brakes.

    CHECK THE HANGER TO SEE IF SHIFTING IS OFF. Also, move the levers up and torque just below max.. it won’t break. Adjust the spacers on the crank to fix chain line too. It’s likely 73mm she’ll chainline and not 68mm chainline

    Considering the shifting suddendly being poor on the new bike: Maybe the attachment point for the derailleur on the frame isn't perfectly straight (similar effect to a bent derailleur hanger)? No idea if this is the case, just an idea. Now, I’m sure the weather was not planned for a shake down ride, and it was pretty harsh test environment, for Jimmy on a new build. Very informative though! The group set should have been able to handle it, without causing mild to moderate understandable panic on occasions! Though I’m pretty light at 52kg I have to say, for rim brakes, Campagnolo, 2018 onwards calipers, levers with campagnolo blocks and AC3 brake track rims feel and work superbly well.

      I have a rim brake bike running SRAM Red Hydro-R which are hydraulic rim brake calipers. The modulation and stopping power of these even in the wet easily match the performance of my disk brake bike.
      Wish they still manufactured these brakes as imho they provide incredible performance without the weight and complexity of disc brake bikes.

    Maybe build a pair of aluminium lightweight wheels. If all the components can be found on ali xpress?? Being able to stop properly is overated, but can be a lifesaver.😉

    this is why I've never trusted a carbon wheel with a rim brake, disc is the best. But my favorite is the rim brake with alloy wheels.

    I've been interested in getting the Vanyar for awhile, but their suggested size for my height (173cm) is a size 51. I'd say I'm usually a size 53-54 and I ride a 51 right now which feels way too small. Anyone know how tall Jimmy is?

      Hey, wondering if you found an answer to your question ? I ordered a size 50 and i'm the exact same height as you (quite long legs for my height though), but I was thinking the opposite and maybe going for a 48 as I'd like a more agressive / aero position.
