  • New York Cosmos Assistant Coach Alecko Eskandarian considers himself a force to be reckoned with in the sport of table tennis. But would a showdown with a 13-year-old from United Way's ReadNYC program change that? Watch incognito ping pong prodigy Estee Ackerman prank the Cosmos and bring Alecko to his knees.
Special thanks to the kids at P.S. 5 in the Bronx with United Way NYC, Buffalo Wild Wings, the USATT and the ITTF! Find out more about United Way's #readNYC campaign and donate here: donate.unitedwaynyc.org/page/...

Props to him bc he figured out very quickly she was better than him, and instead of getting his ego in a bunch and going all Joe Intensity to try and beat a 13yo girl in a friendly match he gave a legit, but not full-on, effort (yes, he'd still lose if he went full-on, but ego will make ppl do stupid things, and he held his in check. Good on, dude).

A friend of mine and myself decided to join a local ping-pong club, thinking we'd just play eachother now and then.
In stead we somehow got enrolled in the national membership lists. We didn't mind as we were placed in the lowest division, we had after all hardly any experience at just 17-18 years old.
Then something happened within the ping-pong federation, and all of a sudden we were in 3rd. division. Because of that we were told that we had to go to a national tournament in a city a few hours away the following weekend. Sure thing!
The first thing I did when we arrived, was to check out when, where and who I was going to play, but neiher my pal or I could find our names on the list.
So we asked one of the volunteers for help, and after a while she came back with a big smile telling us we were now in first division! And just to top it off informed me that I should consider myself lucky as my two first opponents had competed in the Olymics, repeatedly. I told her I bought my first paddle three weeks ago and asked if I could go home now. 😲
I've never been so thoroughly beaten my entire life. I managed to hit the ball - whenever it was my serve. When they served I was lucky if I hit the ball, but when I did it would go the opposite direction of where I intended, and I don't think it ever passed the net. 😄
Everybody there knew about the mixup though, so like here everyone was just laughing.
One of them said he'd go easy on me.
"The only way to humiliate me is to go easy on me", I said. Boy did I ever regret saying that!
The only time I have been more exhausted was after challenging a collegue to a game of squash (and I've been through bootcamp).
How the hell was I supposed to know that she, that tiny little thing, used to be a pro player with tons of sponsorships before she retired and started working at my firm?!
Jupp, she taught me a lesson about what happens when you underestimate the wrong person.
    And she loved it! 🤣🤣

I heard of a local church where players gathered once a week for practice and competition so I decided to drop in. I had no idea how good, "good" could be! I didn't have a chance. In fact I was so out Played I was totally embarrassed and knew there was no way i could ever be good enough to even give any of them a challenging match, even as they tried to show me the moves! There were about 30 people there that evening and they all blew my mind!
